  • Anjali: Oh, what a beautiful bottle. I already have L’Instant in both the EDP and the parfum form and yet am tempted to buy this. Well, perhaps not, as I not a large fan of iris…an anti-fan in fact. So perhaps I am safe 😉 September 12, 2005 at 5:34am Reply

  • Sisonne: Dear V, perhaps I should re-test L´Instant – I wasn´t impressed at all when I smelled it for the first time. Eau de Noel sounds even better – since I´ve discovered my love for iris fragrances 🙂
Moreover, the bottle´s also beautiful. But fortunately I wouldn´t buy a scent just because I like the bottle 😉 September 12, 2005 at 6:45am Reply

  • Laura: V, that bottle is really beautiful. I’m not a fan of l’Instant but I’m curious to see what this one will smell like. The Eau de Noel part is a new marketing ploy for Guerlain? I don’t remember any hyper-consumerist holiday-related scents from them, do you? (Not that I WOULD know since I’m not nearly as knowledgeable about this as you and many of your readers ;D) September 12, 2005 at 5:45am Reply

  • Sisonne: V, I cannot agree more – I like a nice packaging, too! Is Eau de Noel already available in Europe? I´m sometimes surprised how much earlier the fragrances come to the States (e.g. SL Cèdre) which – up to now – isn´t available in Germany… September 12, 2005 at 10:55am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Anjali, I am very tempted. I grew to like L’Instant, especially after discovering how nicely parfum dries down, but iris is always a welcome addition. Unlike you, I am a fan, therefore it definitely goes on the to-try list! September 12, 2005 at 10:42am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: L, I love the bottle. Like you, I am having difficulty remembering what season fragrances Guerlain has done (well, maybe Winter Delice). Not sure if the outcome will be interesting, but it is definitely appealing to me. September 12, 2005 at 10:44am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: C, no, I would not buy anything because of the bottle alone, but nice packaging can be a definite plus for me! September 12, 2005 at 10:45am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: C, I am not sure. I think that the companies market certain fragrances for specific regional markets. For instant, Chanel Chance was first released in the States, which was a bit unexpected from a French perfume house. If you try it, please let me know. Certainly, I will review it when it comes my way. September 12, 2005 at 11:02am Reply

  • Campaspe: Lovely bottle! Even better than the original, which is beautiful too. I sampled the original L’Instant at a Sephora in Nice. When I returned to the lunch table, all three adults (and one of the kids) immediately announced that they Hated It. I was wavering, but said no thanks. Maybe I will try the “extra iris” version but iris is a tricky note for me, aside from the peerless Iris Silver Mist. September 12, 2005 at 11:56am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Yes, the bottle is very beautiful, with the lovely lettering. I am trying hard to imagine what iris would do given the notes, but I am having difficulty. I am curious, to say the least! September 12, 2005 at 1:16pm Reply

  • songscent: I don’t like the bottle. I love the original, though–it’s one of my favorite bottles of all time. I’m not into intricate logo designs on the whole. But I am interested in smelling this LE L’Instant, even if I’ve never run out to smell iris perfumes. September 13, 2005 at 1:38pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Sali, I love the parfum bottle the best. It is like a precious piece of jewellery. September 13, 2005 at 1:53pm Reply

  • songscent: Yes, it is stunning. I prefer parfum (splash) bottles over aerosol pump sprays any day. This LE bottle is also beautifully done but it’s just not my personal style. I don’t care for the new Serge Lutens bottle with the intricate Indonesian design on it, either. Maybe I’m not into orientalism, and everything is about that these days. • BoisdeJasmin: I can understand that. It is important to stake out one’s own unique identity, which is why I love your music. I listened to your CD this morning, and it made my entire day.

My personal predilections are definitely towards orientalism, probably because of my upbringing. Ukrainian culture is a blend of both Eastern and Western influences. September 13, 2005 at 3:01pm Reply

  • songscent: Thank you so much! It means a lot to me that you feel an identity in my sound. I strive to be true to myself and for my songs and sound to reflect that.

Did you see orientalism in the Eau de Noel bottle? Now I’m thinking that it looks more like handwoven lace or a slightly disturbing Escher sketch. Btw, I like some elements of orientalism and hope to capture glimpses of it in my next musical works. I’m very drawn these days to India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. • songscent: Oh, I’m also fascinated with your Ukrainian background and how it influences your style. I’m Japanese but can’t get more Americanized. And thanks for creating a stylish place in cyberspace–so fun to be here. ;-D September 14, 2005 at 2:08am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: I am glad that you are enjoying it! 🙂

The bottle style reminded me of Arabic calligraphy at a first glance. Lace is a good analogy as well. I can see that really well. We will see what it is like in reality. Photos can be misleading.

As for your music, I am anxiously anticipating another CD! I would love to hear how you integrate oriental elements in your music. September 14, 2005 at 6:22pm Reply
