  • Catherine: Hi all,

This is not at all related to the article but, I thought, might be of interest to other scentophiles. The History Channel is showing a Modern Marvels episode tonight (it will undoubtedly be repeated)on the history and development of malodors as non-lethal weapons and weapons of dispersion. It turns out to be more difficult than one would think as some odors are offensive to one culture and mildly appealing to another (e.g., the smell of slightly rotted fish doesn’t offend the Japanese, though it does Germans…where rye and carraway don’t offend Germans but are mildly offensive to the Japanese) and some that seem benign to many cultures are odd and strange to others (e.g, early tests in parts of Africa found that cinnamon was both unfamiliar and, because pungent and very fragrant, thought to be dangerous).

While I’m posting, a friend is leaving for a month in Paris next week. Are there Chanel scents available there and not in the U.S.? I might at least send him shopping for me :-). January 26, 2007 at 11:40pm Reply

  • Madelyn E: Hi Victoria,

I received a call from Chanel – Bergdorf’s about the upcoming exciting fragrance releases ! The SA said that she really like 28 La Pausa – a gorgeous iris. and 31 Rue Cambon was just gorgeous. She added that Caromandel captured the “scent ” of that bygone era that was in Coco Chanel’s heyday. I did ask about those ..to be sure ! I’m awaiting news of a possible “event” heralding the arrival of these treasures . I’m sure you are too. She did say that BG would not carry the parfum versions of the classic Rue Cambon line ust the EDT. Sooo, It’s off to the Chanel boutique on 57th for those.
I thought you would want to know , dear Victoria. She said she did not have any ‘samples ‘ (I am into “free ‘ samples ). So I guess I will be on bread and water for a few weeks to save $$ should I fall in love w one of these new Exclusifs .
    Have a cozy W-E !

  • LeaGirl: He ‘s already done that last year in Allure mag (USA), I remember two articles how to smell rich and another one just as cheesy. I was so disappointed he stooped that low.
I can ‘t fathom Serge Lutens doing something like that LOL January 27, 2007 at 2:06am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Fascinating! Thank you very much for sharing. I hope that I can catch it later.

The new Chanel fragrances should be available in Paris in mid February, so yes, you have plenty of reasons to send your friend on a shopping expedition. 🙂 Bel Respiro and La Pausa caught my interest the most. January 26, 2007 at 11:51pm Reply

  • March: V — Allure just ran an extensive article on Les Exclusifs in the current issue — 4 pages, interesting and informative. I am still scratching my head; by fashion rag standards, I consider Allure on the same level as People. I guess I am wrong. I’m now reading my daughter’s subscription… January 27, 2007 at 8:37am Reply

  • Madelyn E: Dear Victoria,
News Alert !! I just spoke with the lovely Carmen of Chanel Cosmetics @ Bergdorf Goodman New York (212) 753-7300 . She informed me that the New Les Exclusifs Collection ( 28 La Pausa , Bel Respiro et al ..) are scduled to arrive there on 12 February ! She was very much anticipating the lauch of these fragrances . Cost -one size Eau De Toilette $175. each.
I take my role as “official Bergdorf Goodman advisor ” quite seriously , LOL. !
PS – I lulled myself to sleep ( again flu-strickem) with the one and only Guerlain masterpiece Apres L’ondee. I can see why Parfumeur Sophia
Grojsman was inspired by it !

  • BoisdeJasmin: Madelyn, thank you for the update! You are my prime source of exciting news at BG. 🙂 Did the SA mention when exactly the perfumes will be arriving?

I really have my heart set on La Pausa. I just wish it came in a stronger concentration. January 27, 2007 at 10:45am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: LeaGirl, that article was funny, but perhaps it was not intentional. January 29, 2007 at 12:13pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: March, Allure has nice fragrance features, so I always be sure to browse through it. January 29, 2007 at 12:14pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Madelyn, thank you very much for this update! A reason enough to stop by the store then. 🙂

I am glad that you are enjoying Apres L’Ondee. It is such a masterpiece. January 29, 2007 at 12:16pm Reply

  • Karin: Wouldn’t you know that I didn’t renew my subscription! LOL.

V, I linked you to my blog. I love your site, as you know!

  • Karin: I sent it too quick, sorry. Allure has always been interesting, especially when they had Kevyn Aucoin as a column (and previously, featured his work as a makeup artist). It got kind of repetitive to me, so I decided not to renew. My bad!

my blog is http://www.savvythinker.com February 5, 2007 at 7:04am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Karin, I did not renew either, but I might now. Thank you for a link. I added yours too! February 5, 2007 at 1:33pm Reply

  • Karin: Oh, thanks, V.

Really, I figured when I tossed the renewal, I’d regret it, LOL!
