Donna Karan Chaos : Return of Discontinued Favorites

Donna_karan_chaos

I have always mourned the departure of Donna Karan Chaos. Even though many other fragrances since its original launch in 1996 attempted to capture the delicious darkness of incense, woods and spices, nothing could quite rival Chaos, where every woody, incense and spicy facet was magnified and arranged in a perfect harmony. However, it seems that the reps at the fragrance house have seen the light, and Chaos is soon to return to the stores, along with Donna Karan Signature, Fuel for Men, Black Cashmere and the Essence Collection. Meanwhile, you can visit the Bergdorf Goodman counter to preview these fragrances between August 13th and August 16th. (via press release)

  • sweetlife: We’re all waiting for your nose to tell us whether the original formulas have remained intact, V!

I, for one, am not sorry I picked up those back up bottles of Black Cashmere (they were cheaper than the re-issues, for one thing, and the bottles are way cooler) but I am so, so, glad to see DK taking care of their classics.

You know, so many people have commented that scents like Chaos and BC smell as though they could have come from niche houses, I wonder whether the rise of niche scents has made waters more friendly for these? And the price point, which seems so reasonable now… August 11, 2008 at 1:25pm Reply

  • rosarita: I have never sampled Chaos, just because there didn’t seem to be much point, but I’m sure I’ll love it. Black Cashmere is HG material for me. I’m thrilled that Donna Karan fragrance division listened to their customers! Now if only other houses follow suit. August 11, 2008 at 5:55pm Reply

  • EauMinx: With all of the IFRA regulation, I can’t imagine that these fragrance haven’t been reformulated–even if some of them are well done. Estee Lauder likes to riff on the niche card, but they are a big company that has to answer to stockholders, and Fabrizio Freda (their new CEO)will want to make his mark with something bigger than niche. These look like short-term releases to me;which means a double heap of disappointment when they disappear again. August 13, 2008 at 5:48pm Reply

  • irene: Hi,

Very nice beauty blog you have here. Found your blog after searching information for makeup reviews. Thanks for the great information!

My name is Irene and I’m involved in an online beauty community website called http://www.ColorMeGorgeous.com. I was hoping that you would have a minute to check out the site and perhaps if you liked what you saw… write about it on your blog?

I may be going out on a limb by asking you for promotional help through your blog, but I hope you find ColorMeGorgeous.com to be as news worthy/helpful as I perceive it to be. There’s still a lot of work to be done with it, but I’m working on it. It’s hard to compete when you’re a small fish in a huge sea with huge sites like MUA and the likes, but I do what I can 🙂 My favorite part of the site is the ‘critic’s corner’ where members can review or read up on various product reviews for makeup and skincare. Then there’s always the forum, the photo gallery, the ask a makeup artist page, etc.

    Thanks for your time 🙂

    Best,

  • Helena: My niche perfume fetish arose out of my despair at the discontinuation of DK’s Chaos…for 10 years I have unsuccessfully sought a replacement signature scent. So when I heard the news I immediately ordered a bottle fr. Bergdorf Goodman and, I have to say, I have been slightly disappointed. It is still wonderful and breathtakingly unusual, but I feel as if the sillage is much weaker, and the pungent, spicy incense goodness of the scent has been somehow diluted with some of those dreaded green notes. Definitely worth the purchase but, alas, not quite the same. September 19, 2008 at 4:44pm Reply

  • Louise: According to my newspaper today it transpires I have been an unknowing perfumista!! I have just discovered that I can replace the bottle of Chaos I bought on holiday 10 years ago. I loved it and have been trying to buy another ever since only to be met with blank stares as nobody had heard of it. I bought Chaos to replace another vanished favourite, Diorella, which had replaced Chypre, which had replaced Sortilege, which had replaced Azuree, which replaced my teenage favourite, Sea Jade. If I am ever asked to put a date on something I always go by the scent I was wearing and it’s normally fairly accurate. September 22, 2008 at 7:24pm Reply

  • Karen: If this is true, I am totally psyched to hear it! I had changed perfumes(outgrown my old scent after 10 years) and found Chaos, the perfect scent for me. I knew this because hours after applying it, people would often comment on how nice I smelled. When I heard that it was going to be discontinued, I ran out and bought 2 bottles(at $75 a bottle, this was all I could afford). Since I used those bottles up, I have remained without a scent that really fits me, no matter how much I have searched. Thank you thank you Donna Karan, you have answered my perfume prayers!!!
