Wish Lists : Perfume, Food and More

IMG_6580s

I love making lists, from compilations of things to do to shopping notes. In this spirit, a few questions about your wish lists. Feel free to answer one or all of them.

1. What is on your fragrance wish list?
2. What is your favorite dessert?
3. Do you have any goals/wishes for this summer, things that you definitely want to accomplish?

Mine are:

1. Serge Lutens Vitriol d’Oeillet, Crabtree & Evelyn Iris, Aftelier Lumiere, Chanel Coromandel, Guerlain Samsara EDP, Etat Libre d’Orange Rien, by Kilian Back to Black, Hermès Terre d’Hermès parfum (I finally got to try it, and it is fantastic!)

2. Strawberry tart or bitter chocolate. I love the classical fresh fruit tart, in which the berries rest on a layer of vanilla cream. I generally make the pastry and the cream in advance and store it in the freezer for a quick last-minute dessert.

3. To catch up with my old friends, some of whom I have not seen for the past few months, which have been very busy for me. To finish re-reading Tolstoy’s War and Peace. To see Mariinsky Ballet perform at the Lincoln Center. To explore more of New York City’s boroughs.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day holiday!

  • Kristina: 1. PdN Week-end a Deauville, the perfect citrus (any suggestions?)
    2. Either something very fresh like strawberries or for a guilty pleasure mousse au chocolat
    3. Also finishing Tolstoy’s War and Peace (a long way to go though, I’m on page 180), preferably while spending a week in Berlin, the closest I can get to Russia :-). May 28, 2011 at 6:36am Reply

  • Ann c.: Happy Memorial day!

My wish list is quite modest at the moment:

    1) vintage Tresor: I bought a mini of the current formula and it’s lovely. After reading your description of the original formulation, though, it makes me wonder how much better it once was.

    2) Costamor Beachwood: a lovely beachy scent; reasonably priced.

    3) Sensuous Nude: it’s not released yet so I don’t know if I’ll like it, but both Sensuous and Sensuous Noir are everyday favorites, so I definitely plan to sample it as soon as it’s available.

Favorite desserts include good vanilla ice cream, strawberry shortcake, pecan pie, and almost anything with chocolate or whipped cream.

I have a couple of project at work that I hope to finish up this summer, but mostly I plan to relax, hike, and just enjoy our brief but beautiful summer. May 28, 2011 at 7:40am Reply

  • pklagrange: 1. La Belle Helene, Zeta
    2. Gelato (especially pistachio)
    3. To finish several painting projects May 28, 2011 at 9:58am Reply

  • Alexandra: 1)I finally started liking Mitsouko, so, I d like to have the EDT, along with the sassy Etat Libre d’Orange’s Putain and Vraie Blonde, Andy Tauer’s L’Air du desert Marocain, and waiting for the new Goutal Mon Parfum Cheri’s release 1st July in Harrods (although I am scared of the patchouli).

2)I am not a fan of sweets, so the best thing for me after a good meal would be an iced coffee (Frappe- as in Greece).

3)I plan to finish writing my PhD thesis this summer… fingers crossed! I will have to think about what perfume to wear in my Viva- I might need your help at that point! May 28, 2011 at 10:01am Reply

  • Julie: 1. Sonoma Scent Studios Incense Pure.
    2. Fresh berries, or the other extreme, dark chocolate.
    3. Get caught up on genealogy (digitizing photos & docs) and general uncluttering. May 28, 2011 at 10:04am Reply

  • Suzy Q: 1. Musc Ravageur is the only thing left on my FB list! This spring I bought Coromandel with tax return money and I just bought–or, I should say “charged”–a FB of Guerlain Cruel Gardenia. When the tornado sirens sounded last week I grabbed that bottle of Cruel Gardenia when I took shelter!

    2. Cake of any type is my weakness. I like to bake the Duke’s mayonnaise chocolate cake. The mayo takes the place of butter and eggs.

    3. My teaching job sucked the life out of me this past year. I’m going to spend more time reconnecting with friends near and far. May 28, 2011 at 10:17am Reply

  • Ines: 1. Vitriol is on my list as well, I just wish I were more luckier (a friend is going to Paris but too early for the release). Also, MFK ABsolue pour le Soir and Frapin 1697 (I’m still hoping I’ll love this).
    2. Any kind of fruit strudel (apple, cherry or plum usually).
    3. I hope to finish my master’s thesis this summer. May 28, 2011 at 6:26am Reply

  • Suzanna: 1. Tubereuse Criminelle (the cool menthol is a palliative against this humidity!)and Ecume de Rose (soap, too). For the first time in years, my wishlist is pretty short.

    2. I am not a dessert eater for the most part, but I love rodgrod, without the cream. Just plain berry pudding.

    3. Part of my work involves photographing events. I need to study lighting.

By the way, Suzy Q, I have done the same during tornado warning with a bottle of Cuir de Russie. May 28, 2011 at 10:54am Reply

  • Suzy Q: Suzanna, what a relief to know I’m not the only one! May 28, 2011 at 11:21am Reply

  • Penelope: 1. Chanel La Pausa.
    2. A bowl of cherries and fresh soft goats cheese.
    3. Start reading Proust; do some serious writing; improve my Italian.
I love lists too. They are so much more than the sum of the parts. The words and images they conjure, particularly when they are disparate things like these, seem to resonate together and become a poem. May 28, 2011 at 11:23am Reply

  • *jen: Fun list!

    1) Kohl Gris, Ubar, Lyric Women
    2) Cheesecake or berry cobbler w/ icecream
    3) RELAX and have fun; and also reconceptualize and redo my blog. May 28, 2011 at 8:39am Reply

  • Austenfan: 1 Parfums Delrae; Début, Editions de Parfums; Carnal Flower, L’Eau d’Hiver, Tauer; Lonestar Memories.
2 Too many! But perhaps Sachertorte is my favourite.

  • Irina: 1. Annick Goutal Le chevrefeuille, Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine and L’Artisan Eau du Navigatore.

    2. Macaroons. Every Passover (somehow stores sell it only at Passover) I buy 10 to 20 cans, keep it at cool dry place, and try to stretch this treasury till next year. 🙂

    3. I want repaint one of my bedroom wall, loose 3-4 kilos, and, with luck, make a lot of marinated mushroom. May 28, 2011 at 8:46am Reply

  • Stacey: 1. Frederic Malle Une Fleur de Cassie (major want, though not exactly for summer) Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio are the must haves for now
    2. Pistachio & Honey ice cream from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream (they deliver throughout the US, so if pistachio is your thing you must try this!! Not Affiliated, but I love to support this local company)
    3. Read some classics, and get back into a workout plan and bust my butt to get in shape. My boyfriend is in the best shape of his life after losing 80 pounds over the last year, and I need to get it going too. May 28, 2011 at 12:54pm Reply

  • Uella: 1. The new Lutens Vitriol d’Oeillet and De Profundis

  • Natalia: no those a fun goals! 🙂 May 28, 2011 at 3:30pm Reply

  • Natalia: 1. i need a bunch of Frederic Malle perfumes, hopefully will splurge for my birthday, which is coming up (maybe not all FBs though…) – Carnal Flower, Angeliques Sous la Pluie, En Passant.

also i’ve been craving orange scents and would love to get O de l”Orangerie for summer, as well as a 15 ml AG Neroli, and a small Vinage Gardenia, which I can’t stop wearing for the last few days (but these are much smaller purchases than FM).

    2. not a big fan of sweets here. goat cheese, fig jam and port always do the trick for me (or a variation on the topic). in the summer i also love a panna cotta with fresh berries.

    3. move… oh, pain… too look for, to pack, to unpack… ouch., finish some photo projects, set some bigger goals – September always reminds me of school and starting a new year; spend a lot of time out, hiking/biking/bbq-ing and plan some fun vacation for later in the year. May 28, 2011 at 3:37pm Reply

  • Parfymerad: 1. At the moment: Hermes Eau des Merveilles, AG Eau d’Hadrien, By Kiliam Love and Tears, OJ Tiare. This chages on a daily basis, so as ever I’m waiting to see if the lust will last…

    2. Vanilla (i.e. ‘crema’) gelato; pavlova with strawberries; home-made creme brulee.

    3. Finish a rough draft of my thesis by the end of the summer. May 28, 2011 at 4:02pm Reply

  • Hannah: 1. Cuir Ottoman and Coromandel, and that’s it because I think 7 bottles is more than enough for me.

    2. bua loi phuak (glutinous taro balls in coconut cream), but the restaurant that I used to get it from took it off the menu because apparently I was the only one ordering it.
Besides that, gulab jamun and baklava.

    3. I’ve already accomplished my summer goal of getting a job.
I guess I should work on German a bit before I go to Berlin for the semester. May 28, 2011 at 4:42pm Reply

  • Amanda: 1. Chanel Bois DES Iles!!! 2. Pistachio baklava , fresh coconut cake or lavender ice cream! 33. I hope to get around to cleaning the garage this summer and teaching my 2 year old twins to swim! May 28, 2011 at 4:59pm Reply

  • rosarita: Fun project, I love lists, too.
    1. Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche. It’s sold out everywhere, just when I decided I *need* a bottle. Also would love a bottle of SL Bas de Soie.
    2. I have a huge sweet tooth, so narrowing down favorites is difficult. Tiramisu, creme brulee and my mother’s lemon meringue pie are all first place contenders.
    3. I work in the school system too, and this has been a horrible year; May has been like diving in a deep pit and I’m just now emerging. I tore a membrane on my chest wall a couple of weeks ago which requires a long healing time. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with my real life: friends, community service, family, cooking, getting reacquainted with my house and all the things that have had to slide the last month.
Enjoy the weekend, everyone! May 28, 2011 at 5:06pm Reply

  • Victoria: Ah, Pavlova is one of my favorites too. We just came back from picking strawberries, and we have 16lb! Trying to think of ways to enjoy them, so Pavlova must be in our future. May 28, 2011 at 1:28pm Reply

  • Victoria: Cream makes everything better, doesn’t it!
Good luck with writing!! May 28, 2011 at 1:30pm Reply

  • Victoria: Strudel is one of my favorite desserts too. I loved my mom’s best friend’s version which included lost of dried fruit and nuts. Sinfully rich!

Good luck with your thesis, what a great accomplishment it will be! May 28, 2011 at 1:33pm Reply

  • Victoria: My perfect citrus fragrances at the moment include Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine (juicy, blood orange,) Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose, and Guerlain Eau Imperiale for a bracing gin & tonic sensation of lemon and lime. May 28, 2011 at 1:35pm Reply

  • Victoria: The vintage Tresor is worth seeking out. It is richer, plusher, more dramatic than today’s version. And it is not that difficult to find on Ebay. May 28, 2011 at 1:36pm Reply

  • Victoria: I love running too, but I discovered that good shoes are very important. Otherwise, I really feel it in my knees. May 28, 2011 at 1:37pm Reply

  • Victoria: Irina, what recipe for marinated mushrooms do you use? May 28, 2011 at 1:38pm Reply

  • Victoria: Congratulations!!! As someone who got married not that long ago, I can sympathize and relate to your worries. Everything will be perfect, it always turns so, even if some minor details fall through. After all, what is more enjoyable for the guests than witnessing two people in love! 🙂 May 28, 2011 at 1:40pm Reply

  • Victoria: Pistachio gelato is my favorite too. It even rivals chocolate gelato for me. May 28, 2011 at 1:40pm Reply

  • Lavanya: 1. On my wishlist : Ormonde Jayne Tai’f, By Killian Love and Tears, Tuberose Criminelle (when it comes to the U.S in fall), Black Aoud

    2. I usually like dark chocolate based desserts the best..but the dessert that I just cannot get out of my head is the Turkish Kunefe- flaky phyllo sheets with sweet cheese in between, baked/fried and doused in sugar syrup- it is unbelieveable!!

    3. My goals this summer- to finish most of the experiments for my PhD Thesis, submit two research papers and finish reading Anna Karenina, Brothers Karamazov, Elizabeth Costello, In Search of lost Time..Phew! May 28, 2011 at 2:54pm Reply

  • Mimi: I love lists, too.

    1. AG Le Chevrefeulle, eau du Sud and Eau d’Hadrien, Jicky and Krigler Lovely Patchouli. I want, want, want By Killian Beyond Love, but must eat and pay the rent.

    2. I have been craving angel food cake. At first, I thought of a pineapple and whipped cream topping, but now I am thinking of something banana. I have an unfortunate love of sweets.

    3. I want to change my attitude about the already 90 plus degree weather in Atlanta. I don’t think I can love it, but I want to learn to tolerate or pretend it isn’t as terrible an annoyance as it truly is. I also want to read Raymond Chandler and revisit Dorothy Sayers and Margery Allingham. May 28, 2011 at 7:23pm Reply

  • Fernando: 1. This May was a month when I had the chance, for various complicated reasons, to buy several perfumes on my wishlist: Arsene Lupin Dandy, Tauer Zeta, a new bottle of Habit Rouge, and (courtesy of my sister’s European trip) Iris Silver Mist. So there are no really large wants on the horizon… though I’d love to be able to send my niece a bottle of VC&A Orchidee Vanille.

    2. Dessert? Not a normal part of my everyday life. But, judging from how I act, it’s probably Creme Brulee.

    3. I NEED to finish my MAA Guide to Groups, Rings, and Fields, or I’ll go crazy. May 28, 2011 at 7:25pm Reply

  • Marion: !. Wishlist….Bell Jars of Iris Silver Mist, Sarrasins, Mandarine M, Bois Oriental, Fourreau Noire, La Myhrre…Apart form decants I have only managed the Criminy by hook or by crook to Australia so far! Onda and Coromandel, P C Tuberose Gardenia, Parfum de Terese, Ormonde Woman, Parf Gen Sucre de Bene, Nicolai Fig Tea. Yep, all taken from my highly organised FB list. I’ll probably tumble for Jasmine Full and Amaranthine next summer. I adore the Xerjoff Irisss but am forcing myself to wait for the Bell Jars! Too greedy eh!?
    2. I keep meaning to make a tart for my daughter when she’s home from Uni for the weekend…

  • Ann C.: DH and I went out to dinner last night. I was quite full after my meal but he wanted dessert, so I decided to try a frosted sugar cookie. It might not sound like anything special, but was delicious and fresh, and perfect with a cup of coffee. May 29, 2011 at 6:40am Reply

  • dee: 1. Bois des Iles parfum, Jacomo Silences, Caron Bellodgie (EDT), Ormonde Jayne Orris Noir, and Histories de Parfums 1740 (at the moment. This list gets revised frequently!).

I’d also like to sample the rest of the Dior collection, because I’ve been pleasantly surprised by each of them (today’s surprise was Bois d’Argent).

    2. Greek yogurt with fresh chopped strawberries. ***love***

    3. My hubby and I have decided to move to Austin, Texas, and are doing so at the end of August. Very excited, but lots to do in the mean time… yard sales, packing, hunting for a house in Austin, and so on. It’s going to be a busy summer! May 29, 2011 at 3:16am Reply

  • Sandra Levine: 1. Beige, Parfum de Therese
    2. I like chocolate as much as anyone, but as a snack, not dessert. After a fish meal, I like a lemony dessert, like lemon curd tart or lemon meringue pie. Otherwise, caramel, dulce de latte, butterscotch, ice cream, custards and the like.
    3. I have a major report that is way overdue, that I must finish, long before the summer comes to an end. May 29, 2011 at 11:40am Reply

And I have a few others to add to my wishlist thanks to you (Carnal Flower and Potrait of a Lady) I tried Carnal Flower this weekend- on my skin this time- and you were right- it is beeautiful and the heart and dry down smell exactly like tuberose petals sleeping on skin. It was a big mistake to test only on paper earlier. Definitely FBW – probably going to be my first purchase from my wishlist (maybe a travel size). Though Carnal Flower doesn’t really suit this scent- more like Tuberose whispers (though that could sound corny)..:) June 1, 2011 at 4:57pm Reply

  • Victoria: I am so happy to hear this! I was certain that you would find it alluring on skin. Many fragrances really do better on skin than on the blotter, especially when they are complex and nuanced. The warmth of the skin seems to bring out their facets much better.
