Christian Dior La Collection Privee Gris Montaigne : New Fragrance

Christian Dior has added a new fragrance to La Collection Privée. Gris Montaigne, developed by perfumer François Demachy, is a classical mossy chypre with notes of bergamot, jasmine sambac, Turkish rose, Indonesian patchouli, moss, and amber.

  • sara: if it’s a chypre, i need to smell it. i tried only mitzah from this collection and it was boring. March 20, 2013 at 10:04am Reply

    • Victoria: I liked Mitzah enough to drain a big decant, but apparently it’s going to be discontinued. I look forward to trying Gris Montaigne though. March 20, 2013 at 10:37am Reply

      • Hunter: Mitzah (along with Vetiver and Eau Noire) have been going through these dicsontinuation rumors recently, but I doubt most are true. The SA’s at the Dior boutique in Vegas claim that they will simply be limited to Dior boutiques from now on. March 23, 2013 at 7:19pm Reply

        • Victoria: I hope so! They are some of the best perfumes from the collection, and I would miss them, especially Eau Noire. March 24, 2013 at 8:44am Reply

          • Hunter: Victoria, I feel the same. I read on basenotes (nowhere near a good source for anything like this) that Eau Noire was getting axed, and I just could not believe it. Easily one of the classiest and most unique scents put out by a major designer firm. I plan on ordering a bottle of Oud Ispahan soon, and will be speaking at length to the staff at the Las Vegas boutique about these rumors. If and when I get an update I’ll leave a new comment. • Victoria: Oud Ispahan is another favorite of mine!

Thank you, please let me know if the boutique confirms the discontinuation rumors. March 24, 2013 at 4:29pm Reply

  • solanace: A real chypre, with moss? The notes sound amazing. I’m dying to read your review of this, V! March 20, 2013 at 10:37am Reply

    • Victoria: I look forward to sampling it, and if it’s truly mossy and not fleeting like half of the fragrances from this collection, I will be very happy. 🙂 March 20, 2013 at 10:39am Reply

      • solanace: Fleeting is a dealbreaker for me. March 20, 2013 at 10:48am Reply

        • Victoria: Same for me. I don’t mind delicate or subtle, but fleeting is never good. March 20, 2013 at 6:55pm Reply

  • Claudia: I’m going to Paris next month, hopefully the Dior boutique will have it then! March 20, 2013 at 2:43pm Reply

    • Victoria: I believe it should be available in Paris by then. March 20, 2013 at 6:54pm Reply

  • Nancy A.: Dear V,

So far, none of the new collection by Dior “agrees” with me. However, I still will look into Gris Montaigne out of interest.
I received two Tom Ford samples the other day of his Oud and Jasmin Blush. By combining them equally nice! Love his Oud — it’s as sensual as he is! March 21, 2013 at 2:02pm Reply

    • Victoria: The combination of Oud and Jasmine Blush sounds really wonderful! I don’t have samples of Tom Ford’s perfumes on hand, but I might try it with some other ouds and jasmines I have around. March 21, 2013 at 4:56pm Reply
