Frederic Malle New Home Fragrance Collection : Rubber Incense

Frédéric Malle is introducing a new home collection called Rubber Incense. It’s a “high tech” version of a lavender sachet, a plastic slab scented with existing perfumes : Marius & Jeannette (anise), Rosa Rugosa (rose), Jurassic Flower (peach and lavender accented floral), Saint Des Saints (Indian temple incense), Russian Nights (spicy violet), which are also available as candles and were developed by perfumers Sophia Grojsman, Carlos Benaïm and Bruno Jovanovic.
Rubber-Incense

“The idea originated from candle prototypes scented with Saint des Saints perfume hidden in Frédéric Malle’s closet which emitted such a marvelous fragrance that opening the closet became a true pleasure. Rubber Incense was born. Designed to perfume small spaces like closets, dressing rooms or car interiors, Rubber Incense releases perfume for a long time without using electricity or a refill.”

$110, available in Marius & Jeannette, Rosa Rugosa, Jurassic Flower, Saint Des Saints, and Russian Nights. Rubber Incense is sold at Editions de Parfums boutiques, shop.fredericmalle.com, and Barneys New York. Via press release

  • Ann: I loved Saint Des Saints candle when I sniffed it at Barney’s. Does anyone know if FM’s candles have good throw? May 22, 2013 at 8:38am Reply

    • Victoria: To me they are very potent and they last well, which is good considering how expensive they are. 🙂 May 22, 2013 at 9:12am Reply

    • Scott: Yes, the FM candles have great throw, even unlit. I have had a Saint de Saints candle on my nightstand, for over a year, and it STILL is throwing that incredible scent in that corner of my bedroom, unlit. Incredible quality. May 23, 2013 at 12:12am Reply

  • Bela: They sound nice, but are much too expensive. I will stick to my Muji ones: Wood Ember and Log Fire. They are wonderful. May 22, 2013 at 9:37am Reply

    • Victoria: I will have to check Muji. I love smoky room scents much more than floral or fruity ones, so both of these sounds great. May 22, 2013 at 10:06am Reply

    • Emma M: 2nd-ing Bela’s recommendation for Muji candles, they are great (I’m still mourning that Muji closed down in the city where I live…)

I’m curious to sniff out the FM home fragrance line though, both the rose and violet intrigue me. May 22, 2013 at 4:47pm Reply

  • Heather: I’ve used the rubber incense in Saint des Saints for years, and I can attest to the fact that it lasts for years as well. I’ve had some on the go now for close to three years and it still smells. I’m not sure what the new verison looks like, but the original was a red rubber pad. I cut it up into smaller pieces and placed them in drawers and closets. It’s really well worth the money if you’re happy to commit to one home fragrance, as opposed to buying different sprays and candles. I wish they would make a perfume in the SdS fragrance – it really is the perfect incense in my opinion. May 22, 2013 at 9:39am Reply

    • Victoria: I also love Saint des Saints, and I would love for it to be available in perfume. Or something similar. It’s such a fine incense, not too sharp, not too smoky. May 22, 2013 at 10:07am Reply

  • Furriner: I got the Saints des Saints rubber incense when they first were released along with the candles. It came with three sheets (do the new ones still?). I keep one in a closet and it is still going strong. One I gave away to a friend and I’m saving the last for when the other runs out of scent. May 22, 2013 at 8:43pm Reply

    • Victoria: It sounds impressive! I understand that they use a special polymer encapsulation technology that allows for such interesting effects. May 23, 2013 at 1:41pm Reply

  • Daisy: That is kind of cool. I wonder how they work . . . they remind me of the Diptyque scented ovals. Those are just wax but they hold the scent okay. Mine still is fragrant after a year, but you have to get kind of close to it. May 27, 2013 at 11:12pm Reply

    • Victoria: The oils are encapsulated in the plastic. IFF has a special technology to do that, and it looks like Malle has turned to them to create this product. May 28, 2013 at 4:38am Reply

  • Edward: Hello Victoria,

I bought this just earlier and I plan to give it to my boss as my parting/farewell gift to him. He is a man of exquisite taste and I hope he will love the smell of Saint Des Saints (rubber incense) inside his car. Crossing my fingers!
