Guerlain has launched a new fragrance in its l’Art & la Matière collection, called Eau de Cashmere. It’s designed to be sprayed on cashmere or wool for a soft, cocooning effect, although it can be worn on skin, like any other perfume. Eau de Cashmere is unisex and is based around powdery notes. It’s also meant to be layered with any other fragrance in the l’Art & la Matière collection, which includes perfumes like Angélique Noire, Cruel Gardénia, Myrrhe et Délires, and Bois d’Arménie.
“Fresh notes of bergamot and mandarin are mixed with soft and powdery notes of iris and lavender . Then comes the elegant sillage of woody notes of cedar , vetiver and musk.”

Victoria: I haven’t tried it yet, but a friend who did said that they’re very different. Eau de Cashmere is much more woody and less floral, while Eau de Lit is musky, sweet, vanilla-like. I’m curious to try it not so much for the perfume but to see how it might layer with some other Guerlain perfumes. March 4, 2014 at 8:17am

But Vanille + L’Heure Bleue sound like a terrific combination. Vanille must amplify the vanilla-almond marshmallow layer in L’Heure Bleue and make it more gourmand but not sticky. March 4, 2014 at 11:53am

george: I assume one sprays on a cashmere jumper and then WEARS the jumper, and it’s not a perfume for one’s jumper to enjoy like sometimes you get perfumes for babies and dogs…… I like the bottle, but individually specified accessorising of one’s accessories- scarf or perfumes- is far too rococo a concept. I mean: will there be a perfume for layering with perfumes for clothes for childrens’ doll’s dolls pets’ fleas? Victoria: 🙂 No, I think that you can wear it in any way you want, rather than just perfuming your sweaters and admiring them from afar. But while this particular perfume seems interesting, I understand what you mean about the whole gimmicky “perfume for perfume” thing. But since dogs have really sensitive sense of smell, would it be such a good idea to perfume them?? I only found out today that there’s a TV channel for dogs and thought that it was really funny. Ann: Ha! I totally agree. And when the same said sweater needs a workout, will we apply sweater deodorant? And when the wool begins to pill, will we test various sweater anti-aging applications? What about a sweater for the sweater when it gets cold?
Although, I have always wondered about a fragrance designed to work with that barnyard funk that happens whenever I wear wool in the rain… So, I for one would be interest in a fragrance for wet wool, and if the marketing gurus insist, they can call it ‘Eau du Cashmere pour le Cashmere de L’eau’! Clothilde: This could not sound any better! I’ve been perfuming my lingerie and my sheets almost on a daily basis, and a perfume for my most loved sweaters is just what I have been missing in my collection!
Also, they really should launch a perfume for purses or bags, something leathery. Or even a perfume for hair, because I do love to put on some perfume in my hair, because it seems like it lasts much longer than on skin or even on fabrics!

When I was little I remember my grandma you to use a little shampoo to hand wash her wool and cashmere sweaters..it seemed to work ok.

Victoria: There are a few lines that have special perfumes for hair, such as Balenciaga, Chanel, Aquolina, etc. But Sandra has a point, you can use any perfume at all. I usually don’t spray hair itself, but rather at the nape of my neck, close to the hairline. It makes perfume last really well and gives you a great sillage. March 4, 2014 at 3:40pm

Victoria: Belgium doesn’t boast that much as far as perfume goes, but there is a Guerlain boutique. It does take quite a drive to get there, but occasionally we go, because the area itself is charming and there is a very good brewery nearby. Victoria: Guerlain lists it under the L’Art & la Matière line on their website and in the descriptions at the boutique. Ultimately, it’s probably more like Eau de Lingerie, etc., a light, sheer perfume. March 7, 2014 at 7:56am
