Serge Lutens Limited Edition Domino Bottles

Finally, I had a chance to see the long awaited limited edition bottles! Serge Lutens is clearly influenced by Kandinsky’s abstract and contrasting paintings in his choice of designs. Fleurs de Citronnier, Douce Amère and Fleur D’Oranger (from left to right in the photo) are available in the bottles embellished with white and black geometric shapes that bring to mind such paintings by Kandinsky as Composition VIII (1923) and Contrasting Sounds (1924).

However, as I learned, in reality the labels have been inspired by another great painter well known for his abstract geometical works, Kazimir Malevitch. As for the artwork on the labels, it is from a series of photos entitled “Les Suprématistes”, which were created for Shiseido make-up line in 1990.

  • Robin: They are interesting but I do not covet them as I do the lovely limited edition etched bottles from past seasons. July 16, 2005 at 9:58am Reply

  • Victoria: Yes, I agree. I am much more tempted to buy a snowflake bottle or a new limited edition Cèdre bottle. However, I am a big Kandinsky fan, and these bottles reminded me of his love for geometric compositions. July 16, 2005 at 10:10am Reply

  • Campaspe: I have the FdC and it is lovely, though I too prefer the other LEs from seasons past. I also got a Lutens domino set, of all things, as a GWP with it. ha! July 16, 2005 at 5:17pm Reply

  • parislondres: I like these bottles too but like most ladies here prefer the LEs from SL. The new one (with Borneo) will be out in November I believe.

  • Victoria: F, how lucky you happened to be! Do you still like Fleurs de Citronnier? For me it seems to work best in hot weather, because it is a such a clean scent.

N, I cannot wait to try Borneo. It seems fascinating, especially given my love for almost anything Serge Lutens. xoxo July 17, 2005 at 6:42am Reply

  • LaureAnne: I get only a black rectangle when I click on the thumbnail. Drat. July 17, 2005 at 3:28pm Reply

  • Victoria O: My friend brought me the Douce Amère bottle back from Paris. I wanted the scent and was thrilled to get a limited edition bottle but a bit dissapointed that it was just a lable and not a special bottle. I did however get a little SL Domino set. Very cute! • Victoria: The Domino set is very sweet, V! You and C. got lucky indeed. 🙂 July 18, 2005 at 8:42am Reply

  • Campaspe: Yes, in fact I wore FdC just the other day. It slices right through humidity. My favorite description of it was Diane’s, where she compared it to dashing out of the shower with towel-dried hair. It’s exactly like that! Not an all-time love, but a wonderful option for those icky hot days. July 20, 2005 at 12:55pm Reply

  • Victoria: That is a great description indeed! On these days when the levels of humidity rival those of Bombay, it is a very welcome antidote. July 20, 2005 at 1:03pm Reply
