Custom Fragrance From L’Artisan

Always wanted a custom fragrance created by a famous house, but feared that you do not have enough money in your bank account? In comparison with Jean Patou, Cartier and Guerlain who offer a bespoke service in the range of 30,000 euros and up, L’Artisan Parfumeur’s $5,000 seems like a very reasonable sum. I am certainly being facetious; however, the topic of custom fragrances never ceases to amuse me, seeming both decadent and strange. Decadent, because I can imagine better uses for that money, and strange, because I am closer to figuring out perpetuum mobile than a signature fragrance concept.

  • parislondres: I cannot agree more about better use for money than have a bespoke fragrance created for me. Like you, I am always amused at how people are willing to spend that kind of money. Then again maybe a lot of these people do not think much of money under 100K dollars I suppose. 😉

  • mreenymo: V, you know why L’Artisan only charges 5K for a custom fragrance? Because they are all in EDT strength, just like their other fragrances!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist injecting a bit of sarcastic humor. :):)

  • Jay: First, let me tell you how much I love this site – your descriptions have seduced me in to seeking out new fragrances. Secondly, I work in wine and deal with lavish expenses daily. I regularly put together cases that cost more than my rent. It seemed almost obscene at first, but as one with a severely decadent streak in her, I know that had I the cash, I’d probably do the same! • BoisdeJasmin: Dear N, I would definitely be more interested if I had a pick of the perfumer. Would Olivia Giacobetti design a fragrance for me? Now, that sounds appealing. 🙂

Dear Jay, thank you very much for a compliment on my site. Scents are seductive to me, and they are not limited to perfume. I can understand what you mean about decadence. My decadent (if that word is applicable to this case) dream is to receive a perfumer training from ISIPCA, however given my current Ph.D. work, that is not likely to happen in the near future. However, there are plenty of wonderful things to smell around, including wine. I have had just as many evocative moments tasting wine as I did testing fragrances. August 12, 2005 at 9:39am Reply

  • Campaspe: I cannot imagine doing this, unless someone resurrects Ernest Daltroff. Although the gentleman who created Caron Tubereuse is very talented. Then again, if I told him just what I wanted in a scent, I suspect I would wind up with …

    Caron Tubereuse.

  • BoisdeJasmin: To be honest, I cannot imagine what fragrance I really want that does not exist. I just want Serge Lutens Borneo 1834 and Frédéric Malle Carnal Flowers. August 12, 2005 at 10:26am Reply

  • Campaspe: Same here, I am dying to try both. August 12, 2005 at 11:25am Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: *spilling tea* Robin, you made me laugh out loud. I love your sarcastic sense of humour!
