Legendary footwear (if this word can be applied to his works of art) designer Manolo Blahnik introduces his first candle. Its top notes of fig, ivy, and gardenia rest over softness of violet, chocolate, heliotrope, vanilla, and musk. The candle is presented in a signature white pouch and shoe box.
Available for $75 from Neiman Marcus.

Judith: Well, I am hoping it will smell like leather (which would make sense, considering. . . 🙂 April 6, 2006 at 11:37am
Judith: Oops–posted too fast; just read the notes–not much chance for leather here! Sounds too sweet for me. April 6, 2006 at 11:39am
BoisdeJasmin: Helg, I really like Essence of John Galliano, although Manolo sounds a bit too sweet for my tastes. Maybe, it is going to be different when burned. April 6, 2006 at 2:50pm
BoisdeJasmin: Have you tried the new L’Artisan-Bottega Veneta candles that Olivia Giacobetti created for them? They are excellent, and one of them is leather. April 6, 2006 at 2:51pm
BoisdeJasmin: Adding: I reviewed Intreccio no.1 for Robin’s NST blog. Since then, I have also tried Intreccio no.2, but I still prefer no.1. April 6, 2006 at 2:53pm
helg: If this is half as addictive as John Galliano’s for Diptyque (although different in tone , but yet with many favourite notes of mine), then I am in trouble….. April 6, 2006 at 11:35am
Carolyn: I just sniffed this on Tuesday while browsing at Neimans. I hadn’t read up on the composition, but I thought it was a nice scent, with fig definitely being the major player. I don’t think it’s special enough (to my nose) for me to be splurging on it, especially since I love the Bendel Fig candle already. But it is very pretty. April 7, 2006 at 3:42pm
Prince Barry: Wow, that man has such style. He is often featured in the fashion mags over here in the UK doing various guest things for them. There has been no mention of his candle over here, reading the notes that are in it, I wish they would. I have never seen it mentioned anywhere in the UK.
I want one and I want it now! April 9, 2006 at 2:52am
BoisdeJasmin: Carolyn, thank you for your thoughts. I have not had a chance to try it yet, and I am glad to hear that it is not that special. It is certainly not cheap. April 11, 2006 at 1:27pm
BoisdeJasmin: Barry, I read a very interesting interview with him recently, and I am always amazed by his sense of style and his talent. A fascinating person! April 11, 2006 at 1:28pm
Joe: I have been looking everwhere for more of these candles. It’s seems Niemans and Bergdorf’s have both run out or stopped carrying them. They are fabulous. Any idea where I can find more? June 28, 2007 at 12:38pm
