  • Leoness: V, which of these nominees would you consider personal favorites? What do you think of Ange ou Demon? I purchased a bottle from a department store because I liked the opening notes, but after trying the perfume at home, the scent seemed to get stronger and stronger. I initially liked Badgley Mischka too, but discovered something cloying. I smelled Armani Code for Women on a co-worker and the ginger was quite nice. I own Cartier’s Delices- the drydown is lovely. I’d love your take on some of the nominees. Thanks! March 22, 2007 at 10:57pm Reply

  • AHTX: In addition to Leoness’ queries, I’d love to hear anything you feel you can reveal about the selection process…conversations, experiences, your own feelings as a judge… March 22, 2007 at 11:14pm Reply

  • Madelyn E: When I visited L’Artisan’s Counter at Bergdorf Goodman- the SA presented Fou D’Absinthe as a woman’s scent ! I really liked it – almost (gasp !) bought it on the spot.
I was surprised to see it on the men’s list. Is it considered to be unisex or men’s ? What do you think of it ? March 23, 2007 at 1:49am Reply

  • juliette: the nouveau niche selection sucks! I m sorry but Parfumerie Générale mens scents (Coze, Querelle, Harmatan Noir…) are a million times better and more interesting than whats listed above. March 23, 2007 at 1:53am Reply

  • Judith: Hmmmm. . . In the NN category, I guess I would pick both L’Artisans (definitely for the women; I haven’t smelled a lot of the men’s scents though)> March 23, 2007 at 8:48am Reply

  • Monika: I’m really puzzled by who goes into which category. I would have never considered Kenzo or YSL a niche brand, and my instinct would be to place Beckham in popular appeal rather than niche… I guess there are some complicated criteria. 🙂

It’s my first post here, so I wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your blog. Thanks. 🙂 March 23, 2007 at 2:00pm Reply

  • ~vanilla girl~: Hello Victoria! nice to see Kenzo Amour in the NN category…I just received my bottle of kenzo amour today,i am LOVING it!! 🙂 March 23, 2007 at 2:01pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Leoness, actually if you liked the ginger in Armani Code for Women EDP, then you will like the EDT. There is a spicy-fresh note in it that is very nice. March 23, 2007 at 5:08pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: A, the selection process is actually fairly straightforward. The companies nominate their products themselves (every single company is welcome to put their fragrances on the ballot), the judges then pick the first round of finalists. There is another round coming, which was not done yet. In general, there are twenty-one FiFi awards including the Fragrance of the Year, Best Packaging (Men’s and Women’s Popular and Prestige), Best National Advertising Campaign (Print and Television), Bath & Body Line, Interior Scent Collection and Fragrance Hall of Fame awards. • BoisdeJasmin: Madelyn, I believe that L’Artisan markets it as a masculine fragrance, but I wear it and find nothing overly virile about it. Of course, its bright fougere accord would be perfect on a man. March 23, 2007 at 5:13pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Juliette, perhaps next year Parfumerie Générale will ballot their line. More smaller companies should definitely do it and get exposure for their products as well as an opportunity to be considered. March 23, 2007 at 5:15pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: J, I also liked L’Artisan fragrances. BTW, if you like vetiver, you should try Story! March 23, 2007 at 5:17pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: Monika, thank you very much! I am glad that you are enjoying it.

Actually, the criterion for niche vs luxe, etc. is very simple–distribution. The fewer doors (stores) carry the fragrance, the more niche it is. It does not mean niche in the sense that fragrance lovers understand it. March 23, 2007 at 5:20pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: S, I am very glad that you are enjoying your new purchase. March 23, 2007 at 5:21pm Reply

  • Leoness: V, I’m not sure which perfume you mean… I liked the ginger in the Armani Code, so I will like the EDT of which perfume? Ange ou Demon, Badgley Mischka, or the Armani Code itself? March 23, 2007 at 9:25pm Reply

  • Leoness: Thanks for the clarification. March 23, 2007 at 11:03pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: If you liked the ginger in Armani Code (EDP has been the only concentration available till now), you will like the new EDT version of Armani Code. March 23, 2007 at 10:46pm Reply

  • BoisdeJasmin: You are most welcome! 🙂 March 23, 2007 at 11:05pm Reply
