In addition to El Attarine, Serge Lutens will issue Serge Noire in July 2008, a fragrance for the export collection. Serge Noire. Serge is a type of twill fabric (in fact, French word serge is derived from Latin serica, itself from Greek σηρικος (serikos), meaning “silken”,) the finest variety of which was used for delicate linings, while the rougher weave was used for military uniforms.
The press release describes the idea behind Serge Noire in these poetic terms: “The ether of ashes… A phoenix, the mythical bird of legend burns at the height of its splendour before emerging triumphant, reborn from the ashes in a choreography of flame, conjuring the shapes of yesterday in a dance of ashes. The swirls of oriental grey enrich the twilight with depth and intensity while windswept memories hint at the beauty of transformation. An ode to everlasting beauty under cover of night’s rich plumage.”

I ‘m glad at a time everybody in the perfume industry is following the steps of Serge Lutens with their own wood, vanilla, leather and tuberose expensive niche scents, Serge Lutens isn ‘t short of imagination when it comes to dreaming up something a little out of the ordinary for his own fragrance line. Talk abt Serge, his scents are very special, they all possess dark, sophisticated characteristics that never ceased to captivate me. I love gourmand and white florals in his line, too bad Datura Noir is not available in my country anymore and I still can’t find any samples to swap 🙁
To anyone here who can share knowledge, I’m curious about Datura flower in perfumery but I can’t find any good info on websites. I learned that Datura flower is poisonous and is used as the hallucinogen, so how can some of the exclusive perfume brands like Serge Lutens or Keiko Mecheri create fragrances with the Datura note in them? Is it possible to extract the aroma of this flower? Or do they just study the “scent structure” of Datura and blend synthetic ingredients to imitate the scent of this flower?
