Perfume : To Give and To Receive

What perfume would you have liked to receive as a gift this holiday season? Are you giving a scented gift to anyone this year?

I hope that Chanel Coromandel is among my fragrance gifts this year, because after going through several decants, I decided that I am ready for a full bottle. The scented presents I am preparing include Cire Trudon candles and Estée Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss body cream.

  • Ann C.: I bought two, one for myself and the other one for my husband. I bought a bottle of Omnio Profumo Oro for myself and a bottle of SL Five O’Clock au Gingembre for DH.

The Lutens is a blind buy based on recommendations from Fragrance Friends on Facebook. I’m pretty sure it’s something he’ll like. Fingers crossed! December 15, 2011 at 6:49am Reply

  • Elizabeth: I’m giving my mother an Alien set, including perfume, shower gel, and lotion. It’s her favorite and she is running low on it!

I think I would like some Coromandel, too. 🙂 December 15, 2011 at 7:25am Reply

  • Suzanna: I have given a duo of Lauder scents–Bronze Goddess and Tuberose Gardenia, and I have gifted myself with Bois des Iles parfum and Nasmatto Nuda. I gather I have been pretty good to myself this year.

I’d have freely given Tuberose Gardenia soap if I could have found it anywhere. It’s the most amazing smelling thing, a white floral bar of perfect accord, and to me preferable to the eau de parfum version. December 15, 2011 at 7:49am Reply

  • Nancy C.: I’ve asked for Tilda Swinton Like This. I have high hopes it will be under the tree. I’m giving Burberry Brit to my son, who is turning 24 at the end of the month and is still using Axe. Got to give that boy an upgrade! LOL December 15, 2011 at 8:04am Reply

  • Suzy Q: I hope you Santa brings you Coromandel! I’ve been wearing it the past three days, falling in love with it all over again. I bought myself the small bottle with income tax return money earlier this year.

I made a decant of Coromandel to send to a friend for Christmas. She likes Angel and Bulgari Black, so I think she’ll like this.

Oddly, I’m not wishing for any bottles this year. Still, I wouldn’t turn down any Chanel No. 5 body products! December 15, 2011 at 8:09am Reply

  • Dl: hoping for santal massoia and/or angel le gout du parfum. I know I’m getting De profundis from a friend. as for giving, no perfumes per se but im offering half an ounce of oud chips from al qurashi. December 15, 2011 at 8:21am Reply

  • Dl: sorry not half an ounce. half a “wquiya” (a word in arabic meaning approximately 200 grams) December 15, 2011 at 8:22am Reply

  • Anne: Oh hopefully santa will be giving me iris poudre by FM, as for scent, i am giving Santa Terre d hermès and i have also wrapped love by Chloé for my lovely little sister. Xoxoxox December 15, 2011 at 8:55am Reply

  • Dionne: What a nice coincidence! I’m getting my first decant of Coromandel this Christmas – it’s been my go-to comfort scent the last little while. (I’m also crossing my fingers for a bottle of Le Temps d’une Fete.) Unfortunately, fragrance is not something I give as a gift as it’s not a passion I share with any of my family. • Raluca: Unfortunately, I don’t get gifts anymore, I just give them. I bought Marc Jacobs by Marc Jacobs for my mom as she always admires it on me and for one of the nurses who takes care of her I got D&G The One. For myself I ordered Noel Au Balcon by Etat Libre D’Orange. I have a sample of this perfume and absolutely love the dry down. December 15, 2011 at 8:14am Reply

  • tomate farcie: I’d love to find L’Eau d’Italie’s Jardin du Poete on Christmas morning! December 15, 2011 at 1:27pm Reply

  • Dl: I hope my friend will agree with you 🙂 hope you get coromandel! December 15, 2011 at 1:44pm Reply

  • Victoria: Wow, that sounds like a fantastic present! December 15, 2011 at 8:51am Reply

  • Nikki: I am thinking about getting either Lumiere Noire or one of Mona di Orio’s fragrances for myself. I gave Taylor’s Black pearls which is a great fragrance for a super price… and Chanel pour monsieur for husband! December 15, 2011 at 2:38pm Reply

  • Sherri: I’m giving my mother Chanel No. 5 parfum, which I do once every couple years. My teen daughters are getting Taylor Swift Wonderstruck (it’s very popular with the ninth grade, you know), Betsey Johnson (several are Betsey Johnson fans here) Too Too, Victoria’s Secret Pink (I know, I know–but they’re only in middle school and think if it smells like candy it’s great! They’ll outgrow it, hopefully. 🙂 ) December 15, 2011 at 5:35pm Reply

  • Olga: As usual, I want to receive more than I want to give! 😉 not because I’m selfish, though, quite the opposite.

I am not giving scented gifts because none of my family members are fond of those, even my husband. Does tea count? I plan to give a tea sampler to my sister in law. Everyone else gets clothes, jewelry, notebooks, etc. My husband gets a bunch of tools and gardening related stuff.

I would love receiving a bottle of 1740, a bottle of Amouage Gold, a cute little 30 ml of Arpege — lovely! — and also I will not turn down 30 ml of Poeme… I’d be happy with a Chanel holiday perfume wardrobe, too. I am not too hard to please! 😉

Victoria, for what it’s worth, I am speaking to Santa about your wish! December 15, 2011 at 7:25pm Reply

  • bulldoggirl: I would be thrilled to find a bottle of PdN Sacrebleu or Angel EDT under the tree.

The only person I buy perfume for is my 18-year-old niece. She graduated from Britney Spears’ Fantasy to Viva La Juicy, so that’s part of her present this year. I’m tossing in a mini of Angel, too, just to see how she responds. December 15, 2011 at 8:40pm Reply

  • Amer: Iris silver mist please December 16, 2011 at 2:31am Reply

  • Amer: I never buy fragrances as a gift. All too often I visit friends houses to find sitting in the bathroom, almost full bottles of what I got them years ago. December 16, 2011 at 2:34am Reply

  • Amer: I would also appreciate Serge Noir and Dzonga, so now maybe you understand why friends don’t appreciate my taste in perfume December 16, 2011 at 2:55am Reply

  • Maddy: I’m not giving my husband a scented gift this year. He is very picky about his fragrances.

As for me, I just hope he gets me anything scented. The last time he bought me a bottle of perfume was 2 years ago. Since then he’s always gotten me something techno related. I love techno but I would be pleasantly surprised if I got something smelly. 🙂 December 16, 2011 at 3:36am Reply

  • Maja: wearing Coromandel today! decant, unfortunately 🙂

probably not going to get anything scented, but I’ll buy Habit Rouge for my husband. 🙂 December 16, 2011 at 8:57am Reply

  • civava: I’d like to recieve Carillon pour un Ange and I will give L’Air du Desert Marocain. December 16, 2011 at 12:22pm Reply

  • Wordbird: I gave my Tocade-and-Shalimar-loving Mama: Miller Harris’ Fleur Oriental, which was a great hit. And my sample set arrived from the adorable and delicious Mr Killian Hennessy. He’s such a darling. If he proposes I might accept… :-p December 25, 2011 at 5:19pm Reply
