American reality star and designer, Nicole Richie, is prepared to launch her own perfume Nicole. It will be presented in September 2012, in time to compete with Lady Gaga whose fragrance Fame Black Fluid comes out around the same time. Nicole was inspired by her mother who liked to layer oils and lotions. “I have a very traditional Southern mom — you never left the house without lotion. Over her lotion went oil and perfume — she was very put together from head to toe. It wasn’t just a one-dimensional smell — there were many different layers,” said Richie during an interview with WWD.
Nicole was created by perfumer Steve DeMercado of Fragrance Resources. It includes notes of “succulent blackberry and Seville orange, has a heart of golden amber, Moroccan rose, lily of the valley and papyrus, and a drydown of sensual cashmere woods, sandalwood, sugared patchouli and vanilla absolute.” Of the Art Deco inspired bottle, Richie said that she wanted it to represent different layers of a woman.
Eau de parfum comes in two sizes, 1.7 oz. for $55 and 3.4 oz. for $69. There will also be available a 6.7-oz. body lotion, $35, and a 6.7-oz. bath and shower gel, $28. The perfume will be available nationwide at Macy’s, Nordstrom and Dillard’s starting September; international markets include the U.K. and Australia. As WWD reports, “Richie is planning to launch a second pillar fragrance in August of next year, and a summer flanker for 2013. She is also working on her spring 2013 collection for Winter Kate and fall 2013 for House of Harlow 1960, along with a capsule collection for Macy’s called Nicole Richie for Impulse.” Via WWD

marsi: Eh, she’s following in Madonna’s footsteps by saying that her perfume is inspired by her mother! June 22, 2012 at 10:43am
Victoria: Seems like it, but then again, so many of us have strong memories of our mother’s scents, clothes, etc. June 22, 2012 at 2:45pm
Jessica: Oh! That explains her attendance at the FiFi awards. She was leading up to her own fragrance launch! 😉 June 22, 2012 at 11:26am
Victoria: I was wondering this when I heard that she was attending! June 22, 2012 at 2:46pm
Nancy: It appears that the Tony Awards boasted and played homage to Fathers this year and celebs are touting Mothers as a marketing tool for their fragrances. A bit of retro chic in her package design. June 22, 2012 at 12:05pm
Victoria: It reminds me of a particular bottle, but I can’t place it right now. I like the vintage look. June 22, 2012 at 2:48pm
Wendy: Could it possibly be KL Femme by Lagerfeld, in perfume? It’s at least what it reminded me of… just googled/ebayed it, and it does resemble it… cheers,Wendy June 23, 2012 at 2:20pm
Victoria: You’re right! That’s the bottle I was thinking about. I had an image in my mind, but I couldn’t remember the brand name. Thank you, Wendy. 🙂 June 23, 2012 at 3:49pm
Mirian: This does actually sound like it has some promise. The packaging is also very beautiful! June 22, 2012 at 2:18pm
Victoria: I liked Madonna’s perfume, so who knows, maybe I will like Nicole Richie’s as well. June 22, 2012 at 2:49pm
Natalie: The bottle seems like it might be very pretty in person. Too bad about the big “Nicole” on the front. 🙂 June 22, 2012 at 10:12pm
Victoria: Of course, this kind of bottle has to be very well-made to look good. Well, I’m curious! June 23, 2012 at 3:53pm
Vanessa: Echoing Natalie’s comment about the bottle. Love the Art Deco look otherwise! Not so sure about those notes, mind – sugared patchouli sounds a bit odd on the face of it, while “cashmere woods” says “predictably mainstream” to me, I don’t know why. And I am not usually a friend of the blackberry… June 24, 2012 at 9:36pm
Victoria: It’s probably going to be predictable and mainstream. Of course, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be bad, but big launches like this really don’t take any chances. June 26, 2012 at 5:15am
