Guerlain Red Lipsticks and L’Heure Bleue Trio News

Since both Suzanna and I are big fans of red lipsticks, I keep tabs on what’s new in the red lipstick world. The news that Guerlain’s fall 2012 collection will feature several new red shades made me anticipate its launch even more. The first tube of lipstick from Guerlain came out in 1870, and recently the perfume house has been busy revamping its makeup collection. On the Guerlain perfume front, I’m curious about the new L’Heure Bleue trio, which celebrates the 100th birthday of this great classic.

L’Heure Bleue was created by perfumer Jacques Guerlain in 1912, and this year its 100th birthday is going to be marked by the launch of the beautiful and very limited edition trio. It will contain a bottle of L’Heure Bleue parfum and 30ml bottles of 3 new fragrances interpreted by the current in-house perfumer Thierry Wasser.

L’Aurore Eau de Toilette is the lightest and brightest of the three, with accents on the citrus and orange blossom. Le Zénith Eau de Parfum is powdery and rich. Le Crépuscule Parfum reworks the velvety base notes of the original fragrance. I’m not even going to share how much it will cost. The reason I decided to share this news is because Guerlain’s creative director Sylvaine Delacourt mentioned via her blog that Le Zénith will join the permanent collection next year. So at least we will have a chance to experience a part of this collection.

Rouge G L’Extrait is the newest lipstick formulation from Guerlain, which combines the best of lipstick and gloss. Currently, there are 7 shades named after the seven sins: M06 Avarice- beige for greed, M25 Colère- red for wrath, M27 Luxure- brown for lust, M41 Envie- orange for envy, M65 Paresse- pink for sloth, M69 Orgueil- plum for pride, M71 Gourmandise – raspberry for gluttony. I have M25 Colère, and I love it for its creamy texture that glides on easily. The finish is matte and non-sticky, but the lipstick doesn’t dry out my lips.  The fall collection will include 5 new colors: 27 Gilda–poppy red, 28 Genna–deep red, 47 Gisela–intense pink, 76 Gracy–brick orange, B04 Bonnie–shiny beige. For various lipstick reviews (not just Guerlain), I recommend The Non-Blonde.

The new fall shades of Rouge G L’Extrait are available for $48.00 at select locations of Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and at Bergdorf Goodman. The L’Heure Bleue trio is exclusive to the Guerlain boutique. Via press release

  • Nicola: Hmm, I wonder if they will honour Mitsouko similarly when the time comes. Maybe not as I gather L’Heure Bleue is a favourite of Sylvaine Delacourt. Then again, that might be a good thing if a Mitsouko tribute is as spendy as I imagine these to be. July 13, 2012 at 9:13am Reply

    • Victoria: I wonder too, Nicola. As much as I just want Guerlain do something new and exciting and not to rework and rework their classics, I still love trying whatever they make. July 13, 2012 at 10:42am Reply

  • Lindaloo: Ooh, I want to get a look at 27 Gilda. Poppy reds work well for me. July 13, 2012 at 10:12am Reply

    • Victoria: That’s the one I want to try too. July 13, 2012 at 10:50am Reply

  • Reese: I love L’Heure Bleue; looking forward to whatever this trio will be. The red lipsticks look really good too. July 13, 2012 at 10:34am Reply

    • Victoria: Guerlain Habit Rouge is my favorite red lipstick at the moment, so I’m curious about the new colors. Gilda has my name on it. 🙂 July 13, 2012 at 10:52am Reply

  • Nancy A.: Why do all these august fragrance houses start to shake things up? L’Heure Bleue, a unique & classic fragrance and one of my all-time favorites is not something that requires an update, in my opinion. On another fragrance note: Kiehl’s has launched three new fragrances all quite interesting and I look forward to your review. There was a time when Kiehl’s had oils purchased by the oz. and discontinued my favorite: Moroccan Jasmine. It was a beautiful oil that I wore consistently. Despite my appeal to keep these oils alive, Kiehl’s now under the ownership of L’oreal has phased out most of them and replaced them with their newer version of EDT’s. July 13, 2012 at 1:33pm Reply

    • Victoria: Oh, no! I’m so sad to hear that Moroccan Jasmine was discontinued. I really liked that fragrance for the apricot jam-like jasmine note. And some Kiehl’s skincare I used before has been changed. I guess, it’s only natural, but it’s still disappointing. July 13, 2012 at 3:16pm Reply

  • Undina: Since the original L’Heure Bleue doesn’t work for me I would be curious to try any new interpretation of this classic perfume. July 13, 2012 at 2:36pm Reply

    • Victoria: I imagine something with a rich, luscious orange blossom note… July 13, 2012 at 3:23pm Reply
