Serge Luten has unveiled his newest Paris exclusive fragrance called Une Voix Noire. “The stars rise in chorus. The night sky is filled with the light of the moon. It is a tribute to the singer Billie Holiday, a reference to a gardenia she wore in her hair.

Jack Sullivan: Can’t wait to sniff it! Love the idea of a tribute to a jazz singer, to me jazz is the ideal musical counterpart to most of Lutens’ perfumes.

Lucas: I just got a sample of it from SL yesterday (in a solid form of course)
It smells nice but not good enough for me to crave a full bottle. To me it smelled like a woody gardenia with a touch of incense and raspberries.

Jack Sullivan: Probably the 120 euros price tag is the default setting whenever they enter a new perfume in the online store (once upon a time all bell jars were 120 euros if I’m not mistaken).
In any case the wax samples do smell very different from the actual perfumes, and do no evolve so much on the skin (I wish they’d give mini-sprays instead because this can be very misleading). September 14, 2012 at 2:34am

L.: I saw notes of gardenia, rum and tobacco listed various places online, unconfirmed. I sometimes don’t like when a rum and tobacco and tobacco dominate a composition – it becomes too easy – so if those are the notes I hope they are done with complexity in mind (also, disliked Chergui – too easy, too boring!).

Margaret Tolliver: I only own one Jeux de Peau Serge Lutens, there are others that interest me but one’s perfume budget only goes so far…especially if your tastes tend to run to the high end! bluegardenia: How exciting! I believe this will be a new thing for Serge Lutens, no? They’ve done two jasmines (A la Nuit and Sarrasins) and two tuberoses (Criminelle and Cedre) but not a gardenia yet to my knowledge.
I remember Strange Invisible Perfumes did a gardenia scent called Lady Day which was also a tribute to Billie Holiday a few years back. Robin at nowsmellthis was a fan I believe. I sadly didn’t get to try it before it was discontinued.
The gardenia-tobacco combination also sounds to me like it might be a sister fragrance to Etat Libre d’Orange’s Jasmin et Cigarette, which I love in theory but haven’t really worn.

Victoria: It is not quite as smoky as Jasmin et Cigarette, but yes, there is something there that gives them a similar aura. It is really a complex, intricate perfume. I definitely need more time to live with it. September 19, 2012 at 7:20am
