L’Artisan Explosions d’Emotions : Haute Voltige, Rappelle-Toi, Onde Sensuelle

L’Artisan Parfumeur is adding three new fragrances to its Explosions d’Emotions, which currently includes Déliria, Amour Nocturne and Skin on Skin. Haute Voltige, Rappelle-Toi, Onde Sensuelle will join the collection in the beginning of May. All three were designed by perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour.

haute-voltige

Haute Voltige embodies exuberance. “True excitement. Feel the goose bumps on your skin as an intense joy takes over. This is an Eau de Parfum with an expansive and extroverted personality: where a generous floral peony note meets with the unexpected fruitiness of pomegranate. An explosion of joy.”

Rappelle-Toi is understated and contemplative. “Silence as a door to our inner thoughts. A contemplative fragrance, anchored in the stillness of our surroundings. With its mesmerising opulence, gardenia evokes this quiet introspection, enlivened with fresh vibrating notes of Sichuan pepper. This magnificent flower is enhanced with musks and smooth sandalwood with honey accents. A beautiful transcendence.”

Onde Sensuelle is about desire and passion. “An insatiable, voracious desire is felt like a deep force, surging under the skin. A wave of sensuality washes over you. This Eau de Parfum is a work in contrasts, between a burning spicy bouquet of ginger, saffron and cumin, and the icy crispness of juniper berries and cardamom. It recreates the sensation, and tension of this urge. A captivating wave of passion.”

Available starting the beginning of May 2014 in the Eau de Parfum concentration, 125ml/140 euros.  Via press release.

  • rosarita: I am probably just cranky because I’m so cold, but these new L’Artisan offerings are coming too quickly to generate interest for me. And 125ml? No thanks. February 13, 2014 at 7:50am Reply

    • Victoria: Yes, I might sound like a broken record, but too many launches, too many launches, too many launches… February 13, 2014 at 10:24am Reply

  • george: I’m too much into the T.S. Eliot’s theory of impersonality to view an explosion of emotion as a good thing. The copy, the rate of new fragrances- all such turn-offs! February 13, 2014 at 8:17am Reply

    • Victoria: You made me laugh once again, George! 🙂 February 13, 2014 at 10:30am Reply

  • rainboweyes: Do we really need another three Emotions scents? My answer is no. I’m not even tempted to try the new releases… And I’m afraid some more of the good Artisan classics will have to go to make room for these novelties 🙁 February 13, 2014 at 8:51am Reply

    • Jillie: Agree with everyone … too many, too expensive, too fast. Old favourites have already gone, and more are to follow. And they don’t make room fragrances any more, either! February 13, 2014 at 9:19am Reply

      • Victoria: I didn’t realize that the room scents have been discontinued. They used to have a whole range devoted to the ambiance scents, so it’s surprising they’ve cut it out. February 13, 2014 at 10:31am Reply

        • Jillie: Yes, surprised me too. They were very good. A decent room spray is hard to find! February 13, 2014 at 11:54am Reply

          • Victoria: But at least, they’re bring back Jour de Fete! February 13, 2014 at 3:01pm Reply

            • Alessandra: YES. So excited! Will it be back for a limited amount of time or in a stable manner? February 14, 2014 at 3:13pm Reply

              • Victoria: The press release didn’t say that it was a limited edition, as far as I recall, so hoping that it will be permanent. February 15, 2014 at 8:56am Reply

    • Victoria: I still didn’t forgive them the discontinuation of Vanilia. February 13, 2014 at 10:31am Reply

      • Jillie: I loved Vanilia too! And of course La Haie …. February 13, 2014 at 11:55am Reply

        • Victoria: Oh, La Haie was also one of my favorites. Again, another discontinuation I can’t understand. February 13, 2014 at 3:02pm Reply

      • Alessandra: same here!!! What oldies are going to be discontinued again? So as to figure out how many stockups I can go for before depression hits 🙁 February 14, 2014 at 3:13pm Reply

        • Victoria: I’m afraid I don’t know, Alessandra. February 15, 2014 at 8:56am Reply

          • Alessandra: It’s ok, don’t worry! February 15, 2014 at 9:58am Reply

    • Anne of Green Gables: I really hope that wouldn’t happen. I still haven’t smelled all the classics yet! It’s unlikely that I would buy any of these perfumes (although I’m quite curious about Onde Sensuelle) but 125 ml is quite a big commitment to make. February 13, 2014 at 10:36am Reply

  • Sandra: I agree with everyone as well. Doesn’t sound appealing to me , and expensive. I will probably give them a sniff, but since my wallet is not exploding with money, explosions d’emotions is not in the cards for me.
On a side note, the snow is coming down hard today in the big apple. I will need some perfume to give me a stuck in the apartment cozy sort of feeling. For now, sipping in Saphir Himalaya by Mariage Freres February 13, 2014 at 9:55am Reply

    • Victoria: Stay warm, Sandra and everyone else caught in this horrible weather. The winter has been so tough in the Northeast this year.

What kind of tea is Saphir Himalaya? The name sounds so pretty. February 13, 2014 at 10:33am Reply

      • Sandra: I am staying warm!
saphir himalaya is a oolong tea. Here is the link if you are interested http://www.mariagefreres.com/boutique/UK/ft+saphir-himalaya-oolong-tea-nepal+T4340.html
I also love the french breakfast, thé à l’opéra, dragon tea & thé en Provence February 13, 2014 at 10:58am Reply

        • Victoria: I have only Darjeeling from MF right now, but they have so many interesting flavored blends. Thank you for your recommendations. I’ve added them to my list. February 13, 2014 at 11:46am Reply

        • Ashley Anstaett: Ohhh, Sandra, that Saphir Himalaya sounds delightful. I haven’t had it, but I love The En Opera. I also love The Vert Provence. It was the first tea from MF that I ever tasted, and I’m so fond of it. It’s strawberry, lavender, rose and the most delicate green tea. Relatively inexpensive as well! February 13, 2014 at 11:17pm Reply

          • Sandra: I am so glad you enjoy those! It took me awhile to master the water temp and the brewing time for each one.
After having MF it made me appreciate the aroma and complexity of tea! Same appreciation I have for perfume! <3 February 14, 2014 at 7:11am Reply

  • solanace: These sound very unappealing, not to mention expensive. Is it true they are discontinuing Timbuktu and Traversée du Bosphore?

Here, the heat wave is worse than ever, at least since they started taking measurements. Will it ever rain again? February 13, 2014 at 11:02am Reply

    • Victoria: If they discontinue Timbuktu–as far as I’m concerned, it’s their best, I’ll be very disappointed.

Sorry to hear that you, on the other hand, are suffering from the heat wave. I wish I could send you a bit of Belgian rain. We had plenty. February 13, 2014 at 11:48am Reply

      • solanace: It just rained, the most acid rain, but it rained on my garden! Hope you guys in the North get a little warmth soon. 🙂 February 13, 2014 at 4:52pm Reply

        • Victoria: *whispering* I like it cold and rainy. Belgium has changed me. 🙂 February 14, 2014 at 2:44am Reply

          • Solanace: São Paulo is usually foggy and rainy during summer, which I find lovely. Yesterday, after two months of draugh, we had a huge hailstorm, which hurt the orchids a bit, but I could finally wear four sprays of Ode à la Vanille. 🙂 February 14, 2014 at 6:28am Reply

            • Victoria: The weather everywhere is bizarre this year. But I’m glad that you finally had some respite from heat. February 14, 2014 at 7:52am Reply

              • Cornelia Blimber: Solanace, I hope the weather does not bother you in writing your paper! February 14, 2014 at 8:04am Reply

                • solanace: Thank’s, Cornelia! During the heat wave it was hard not to drink a beer with lunch, which ruins my afternoon. 🙂 Now the temperatures are getting more suitable for intellectual work. February 14, 2014 at 1:39pm Reply

      • rainboweyes: There used to be a ranking of best-selling scents on the European Artisan website and as far as I remember, Timbuktu was among the top five so maybe there is a chance…
By the way, I participated in their market survey they sent me a few weeks ago, hoping that maybe this is an opportunity to express my preferences. It made me quite anxious, though, that there was only a limited number of fragrances to choose from. Does it mean the rest is going to be discontinued? After a week or so they emailed me back with a short response, stating that according to the survey the most preferred scents of the survey participants were the woody ones. This time there was also room for free comments which I used to express my discontent about their discontinuation policy 🙁 February 14, 2014 at 3:06pm Reply

        • Victoria: Good for you! Communicating our opinion is the only thing we can do at this point. February 15, 2014 at 8:55am Reply

    • Alessandra: I don’t think they’ll discontinue timbuktu, it’s one of their bestsellers, and too much of a big classic! It’s a bit like discontinuing figuier, non? February 14, 2014 at 3:15pm Reply

  • Ashley Anstaett: I’m with everyone else. This is really overwhelming. Onde Sensuelle sounds appealing, although too expensive and too much juice for this girl.

Do you have any recommendations for something that is juniper-heavy, though? I love the smell but I never seem to find any perfumes with it.

Oh, and something exciting, I woke up to three SL samples at my door, and I am really in love with La Fille de Berlin. I don’t have any rose perfumes and I think this could be the one for me! February 13, 2014 at 11:08am Reply

    • Sandra: I hope you fall in love with Le fille de Berlin! I love it ! February 13, 2014 at 11:49am Reply

      • Ashley Anstaett: Oh my word, Sandra, it was love at first sniff. Sometimes rose, especially tea rose, turns to potpourri on me, but this one is just beautiful. I couldn’t stop sniffing it all day and I think that I am going to buy a bottle. Plus the folks at SL were so sweet! February 13, 2014 at 11:10pm Reply

    • Victoria: Ashley, Tocca Colette is my favorite juniper (and it’s not expensive). Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling is also very nice.

Isn’t La Fille de Berlin beautiful? I still can’t get enough of it. February 13, 2014 at 11:50am Reply

      • Ashley Anstaett: Thanks, Victoria! I will definitely check out the Tocca Colette.

And as for La Fille de Berlin, I am absolutely in love! I also got samples of Chergui and L’eau Froide, but I haven’t smelled them yet since I’ve been enjoying La Fille de Berlin all day. I’m very excited though! I think that La Fille de Berlin is going to become my rose perfume. February 13, 2014 at 11:13pm Reply

        • Victoria: You got 3 very different perfumes, which is the best way to go. Chergui is gorgeous, although not my top favorite (a bit too heavy), and L’Eau Froide is great on a hot summer day when nothing else works. Enjoy testing them! February 14, 2014 at 2:48am Reply

    • rainboweyes: Memo Irish Leather has a quite prominent juniper note… February 14, 2014 at 4:17am Reply

  • Theresa: I had to laugh at the name of the line – Explosions d’emotions indeed! and the name of one of them – Rappelle Toi – while pretty in French, sounds too much like “Repel yourself” to be appealing! February 13, 2014 at 3:41pm Reply

    • Victoria: Oh, that’s something. I didn’t think about it! February 13, 2014 at 3:54pm Reply

  • angelique: Hi Victoria,

Wondering if you might review Irene Neuwirth’s new perfume. Have not tested it yet but came here to see if you might have already reviewed it 🙂 February 13, 2014 at 9:43pm Reply

    • Victoria: I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled for it. February 14, 2014 at 2:47am Reply

  • Hannah: I think Onde Sensuelle sounds interesting to me. I never was that crazy about L’Artisan Parfumeur, to be honest. February 14, 2014 at 4:06am Reply

    • Victoria: I very much enjoyed their earlier offerings, and La Chasse aux Papillons is still one of my favorites. But I’m less thrilled with whatever they have done recently, apart from Seville a l’Aube. February 14, 2014 at 5:03am Reply

    • Alessandra: I am, I love several fragrances of theirs…. but they are making me angry now. February 14, 2014 at 3:37pm Reply

  • james1051: I would trade all of these Explosions for one last batch of Iris Pallida! February 14, 2014 at 7:13am Reply

    • Victoria: Same here, James! I also loved that perfume. February 14, 2014 at 7:53am Reply

  • Nicola Stephens: What a great idea – trading these for something in the back catalogue. For me it would be Fleur de Narcisse.

The gardenia one sounds sniff worthy but then I’m hoping to get a cheaper but still lovely (and Mathilde Laurent authored) hit of gardenia via Cartier’s La Panthere. February 14, 2014 at 8:53am Reply

    • Victoria: Have you tried La Panthere already? I only read Denyse’s review, which made it sound very enticing. February 14, 2014 at 10:50am Reply

  • Alessandra: I have a question. I think most people are disappointed with too many classics or great gems inexplicably being discontinued in favour of these frankly boring lines. I don’t like any of the first three explosions and can’t be arsed to try the new ones. I want them to call diverse perfumers to compose original stuff again. Most importantly, I want them to stop discontinuing the gems. Why don’t we all start writing email of protest to L’Artisan, asking them to go back to what they were or evolve along that route, and to stop taking out gazillions of boring fragrances every year??? After all, wherever I go, whatever I read, people love the usual range a lot more. February 14, 2014 at 3:34pm Reply

    • Victoria: Writing a letter to them directly is a good idea. February 15, 2014 at 9:00am Reply

      • Alessandra: I will do! February 15, 2014 at 10:00am Reply

        • Victoria: Please keep us updated, too. February 17, 2014 at 5:47am Reply

          • Alessandra: Yes, of course 🙂 February 17, 2014 at 8:54am Reply

        • Gentiana: I agree, too ! February 17, 2014 at 8:05am Reply

  • Alessandra: By the way, Navegar seems to be back, at least on the website…. or is this an old stock? February 15, 2014 at 10:03am Reply

    • Victoria: Perhaps, it was always around, but had a limited distribution? February 17, 2014 at 5:47am Reply

      • Alessandra: I’ll ask the main Paris shop asap February 17, 2014 at 8:54am Reply

  • Sulin: I feel overwhelmed in a bad way with these new launches! Kinda like the feeling of after-cake-gluttony. On a different note, I just found out I’ll be on call tonight, so my plan of getting my two spritzes of Seville a L’Aube to last me from 9-5 has failed, as it’ll have to carry me over until at least midnight. Oh, the anxiety of being left scentless in times of fatigue! Sigh, I should’ve packed a travel spray… February 17, 2014 at 6:55am Reply

    • Victoria: That’s a good way to put it! I will still try them, if they come my way, but I agree, I would prefer one excellent launch instead of several perfumes. February 17, 2014 at 7:52am Reply

  • Gentiana: Hmmm… I didn’t try these new ones (don’t know when do they appear in my country) but I am not at all keen to.
As I didn’t try the other three before.
It seems I share the opinion of more people here… as Sulin said ” I feel overwhelmed in a bad way with these new launches”.
I keep visiting my samples of the classical Artisan ones… and still undecided if I really want one of them.
I own one Artisan fragrance – the last year I bought a bottle of Tea for Two in a boutique Vienna – from two left. Now I am sorry for not forking out the money for the other bottle, too. 🙁 February 17, 2014 at 7:54am Reply

    • Victoria: If I can’t decide whether I need something or not, chances are it’s not necessary. 🙂 Makes the decision very easy! February 17, 2014 at 11:07am Reply

What do you think?
