“The EU Commission should protect health, and the cultural asset perfumery,” says a group of perfume lovers at Parfumo.net who drafted a well-argued petition addressed to the EU Commission. It’s a response to the ongoing discussion on fragrance ingredient regulations (read this article for more background information.) Please take a look: http://www.parfumo.net/petition/

Cornelia Blimber: I klicked on your link, but got: ”Ups, hier hat sich ein Fehler eigeschlichen”.
After googling Profuma I suscribed, but got no email back, hope I succeeded. Great initiative! April 11, 2014 at 7:15am
Victoria: Fixed it, so it should work now. Thank you!
The forum is called Parfumo.net, not Profuma, so just double check that you’ve signed up to a correct website. April 11, 2014 at 7:19am
Cornelia Blimber: I did, profuma was a slip of the pen!

Victoria: Once the regulatory bodies start regulating, it’s usually a foregone conclusion. But so far, the EU Commission has already revised its regulatory objectives, so perhaps, they can be persuaded to do more. April 11, 2014 at 1:59pm
Tourmaline: Thank you for these links, Victoria. I’ve just signed the petition.
I thought that I’d subject readers to the little poem that I wrote about this issue in May of last year. If you prefer fine writing, then please look away now.
Lament on Lost Perfumes
Fragrant ghosts are haunting me Perfumes as they used to be Not one fragrance has been safe From the EU’s cruel scythe
I dispute their lame excuse That we must limit allergen use Far more dangerous is the nut Yet world supplies have not been cut
Economics, too, I blame, For perfumes that are not the same Corner-cutting cuts the costs But Wall Street’s gain is perfume’s loss
Guerlain, my poor departed man Your baby’s fate you could not stand Mitsouko weeps upon the shelf A skeleton of her former self
Roudnitska, perfume’s greatest son Has heaven told you what they’ve done? In lily of the valley’s saddest hour They have pruned your virtual flower
Your lovely Diorissimo Where did her sweet soprano go? Now her timbre’s harsh and shrill I pine for her vibrato still
To those dismissive, I appeal Just imagine how you’d feel If vandals dealt an awful blow To work by Michelangelo Or altered Mona Lisa’s face Or smashed an ancient Grecian vase?
To Zeus a heartfelt prayer I’ve sent That EU heads will soon relent And let us use ingredients Essential to our favourite scents
Until they do I’ll trawl eBay Deciding how much I can pay For vintage perfumes, while they last The scented spectres from my past April 11, 2014 at 7:32pm
Victoria: Brava! What a terrific poem, and thank you so much for posting it. (And it’s a great way to vent one’s frustration over the regulations, I should add.) April 13, 2014 at 9:27am
Tourmaline: Thanks, Victoria. Yes, writing it was very cathartic! April 15, 2014 at 6:34pm
Tourmaline: I’m sorry about the format of the above “poem”. It is supposed to be in verses with four lines, apart from one verse with six lines. April 11, 2014 at 7:37pm
Gentiana: Very well done petition. Documented and accurate.
I just signed it.
