Lady Gaga Eau de Gaga : New Perfume

Singer Lady Gaga is ready to launch her new fragrance, Eau de Gaga, this fall. Eau de Gaga follow her Lady Gaga Fame launch, but this time the perfume is designed to be unisex, based on the contrast between violet and leather.

“Eau de Gaga is an enigmatic scent, fusing daringly diverse elements to create a beguiling allure. The fragrance is built around a beautiful heart of white violet, an intoxicating flower that fuses male and female attractions. To counterbalance this opulent woody-floral intensity, the scent opens with an invigorating burst of sparkling lime that exudes dynamic vibrancy. And it evolves into a sensual trail based on leather, adding a primal quality to the scent.”

Eau de Gaga Eau de Parfum is available in 15ml, 30ml, 50ml and 75ml bottles at retailers worldwide from September 2014. Via ladygaganow.net.

  • Brenda: Wonderful comment, George. I couldn’t agree more. In my opinion, Lady Gaga tries too hard…at just about everything. This is a perfume I would stroll right by…after all, when one ponders a perfume, it is a combination of things that draw us in. Scent is first and foremost, but the house, the history, the name, the image, the bottle … it all combines to intrigue us and compel us to be curious. I hope this doesn’t reveal me as a perfume snob!….. August 11, 2014 at 9:29am Reply

    • Danaki: Me too! But I don’t think it’s snobbery because I wear cheap perfumes too. I just find the concept of celebrity fragrance downright odd. August 11, 2014 at 11:03am Reply

      • Alicia: Once upon a time I wore a celebrity fragrance by Catherine Deneuve, which I loved. August 11, 2014 at 11:26am Reply

        • Victoria: That was my favorite too. And I really liked Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds. Now, that’s the ultimate celebrity perfume–it matches Liz’s personality, makes a statement and smells expensive, true to its name. August 11, 2014 at 12:34pm Reply

          • Alicia: Never thought of buying White Diamonds, but at my return to NY i will. Thank you, Victoria. I have just returned from Montevideo, where I went for a meeting of visual artists, charming and bohemian experience. In ten days I’ll be in my way to the Iguazu Falls. Insects and only the smells of the subtropical jungle. August 12, 2014 at 10:54am Reply

            • Victoria: Your trip sounds amazing, Alicia! 🙂 August 12, 2014 at 1:13pm Reply

    • Victoria: I can see what you mean, because when you buy perfume, you buy the whole package. I’m ambivalent about the celebrity perfumes myself on a purely conceptual level, but smelling blindly one can find gems even among celebrity scents. For instance, SJP Lovely is a beautiful floral musk. I don’t wear to be “like SJP”, but because I like the perfume. So, if Eau de Gaga will smell interesting, then I’m willing to overlook the fact that I care for Lady Gaga as a performer not at all. August 11, 2014 at 12:30pm Reply

Thanks for the warning that she is coming out with this- I am not sure I will get around to trying it though

Busy but beautiful day here in NYC-taking a much needed tea break: Kusmi earl grey and wearing no 19 poudre. Have a good week ahead August 11, 2014 at 10:36am Reply

    • Victoria: I like the bottle, and I’m curious how it looks like in person. This kind of simple shape needs to be made really well to be compelling.

What a coincidence! I was thinking of No 19 Poudre today too, but I picked Parfum d’Empire Corsica Furiosa in the end. August 11, 2014 at 12:31pm Reply

    • Victoria: It does! She better do something more interesting than her first perfume. 🙂 August 11, 2014 at 12:32pm Reply

  • Portia: Hey Victoria,
I’m cool with Gaga. Her last fragrance was not what I expected but it sold well and I presume that was her intention. In business you have to know your market right? We weren’t her market.
This ones bottle and packaging is lovely, I hope the frag is nice and a little bit freaky.
Portia xx August 11, 2014 at 11:16am Reply

    • Victoria: You’re exactly right, we weren’t her market. But as a celebrity who often pushes the envelope, she could have been a bit more daring. But in the end, it’s the numbers game. August 11, 2014 at 12:35pm Reply

      • Hannah: I think she thinks she ”pushed the envelope” by making the perfume black.
Her core is very conservative (One example: when she first came out she said she wasn’t a feminist because feminists hate men, then she said she was a feminist, but now she’s in a relationship so she preaches submitting and making relationships work by not telling a man what to do etc. and never uses the word feminist without following it submission) and instead of doing anything cutting edge, she’s always been about displaying other people’s cutting edge work. The latter wouldn’t really be a problem for perfume since she can’t be expected to make the perfume herself, but since she doesn’t actually have a very “out there” mind (my friends who love Gaga always got mad at me when I used to say this but they haven’t liked her since she stopped working with her stylist Nicola Formichetti and choreographer/video director Laurieann Gibson), I doubt she’d recognize a cutting edge perfume anyway. • Victoria: It’s an interesting observation, and I see exactly what you mean. I realize that I can recall her props more than the woman herself.
Plus, Coty who is launching a fragrance for her is certainly retaining the veto power over what goes into the bottle. I’m sure that she has to like it, and from what I understand, she has been participating in the creation, but Coty’s people have lots of influence over the fragrance in the end. Everything they launch is bound to go through numerous market tests. August 11, 2014 at 3:32pm Reply

  • Domestic Goblin: I have to agree with you Victoria, I like the design of the bottle too. The combination of violet and leather does sound intriguing though. Lets hope it delivers! Look forward to reading your review of it soon. August 11, 2014 at 2:19pm Reply

    • Victoria: It might launch in the US first, but I will be on the look out for it here. Fame was a big seller in Belgium. August 11, 2014 at 3:28pm Reply

  • Andy: I thought I had read somewhere that Lady Gaga said that this new perfume would include notes of leather and lime, “because I use them every day.” Which makes me laugh, only because I probably use a lime wedge or two each day, and well, oh, I happen to be wearing a leather belt too. Hmm. It would appear that my life and Lady Gaga’s are clearly quite alike… 😉

Anyway, snark aside, I’ll definitely try Eau de Gaga if I come across a tester. At the very least, it sounds more interesting than Fame. August 11, 2014 at 3:16pm Reply

    • Victoria: Hysterical! Who knew you and Lady Gaga were so much alike. 🙂

Fame was just ok for me. I think Suzanna liked it less than I did, but overall, I hoped for more out of Lady Gaga. August 11, 2014 at 3:27pm Reply

  • Brenda: Well, perhaps I should re-think my rather immediate reluctance to giving this scent a try. When I read your comment about “Lovely” by SJP, I remembered receiving it as a gift and being surprised at how much I liked it. It reminded me of Rumeur…one scent that is so dear to my heart. So, perhaps a little more “open-minded” to the celebrity fragrance I shall be….. August 11, 2014 at 3:48pm Reply

    • Victoria: At the end of the day, the celebrity fragrances are made by the same people who make niche and department store perfumes. In certain cases, they even get bigger budgets. One of my favorite examples is Britney Spears Curious, which contains more natural rose than some of the much more expensive niche perfumes. You need to like sweet florals to enjoy it, but it’s a really well-crafted scent (and you can find it for pennies at Marshalls). The only thing I really dislike is the tacky bottle. • Lynn Morgan: Not gonna fall for it! I had such high hopes for “Fame”- Lady Gaga is such an interesting artist/provocateur I thought she might sign off on a wonderful perfume, but it turned out to be a nasty “fruity floral” mess. The only inventive thing about it was the black color and the alien space ship bottle. Celebrity perfumes are inevitably a tasteless joke- even Deneuve stank to high heaven, and White Diamonds is to gag! Black Pearls (Elizabeth Taylor) is rather but pretty, but not too special, and oddly enough. Kim Kardashian’s first scent was very pretty- lots of tuberose and gardenia- but I have way too much self respect to wear anything with her name on it.

If you are looking for a sweet floral with a touch of elegance, try Carvan or Elie Saab. August 11, 2014 at 6:14pm Reply

    • Victoria: Elie Saab, unfortunately, smells very sharp on me. I know that many like it, though. August 12, 2014 at 1:09pm Reply

  • scentimental: Because I am a Lady Gaga fan, I will definitely give this a try. Although, the combination of lime and leather seems a bit strange, like they just don’t go together. I also wonder what white violet smells like. August 11, 2014 at 6:56pm Reply

    • Victoria: It’s a common pairing, especially in masculine perfumes, so I guess, she’s taking a classical route here. August 12, 2014 at 1:11pm Reply

  • christiana: The bottle is very Tom Ford isn’t it!
I love the look, lets hope the fragrance lives up to it’s intriguing description. August 11, 2014 at 8:45pm Reply
