Doctors Without Borders Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors Without Borders fundraiser. Together we have raised $6,420! This money will be of much use to the organization, especially in light of its battle against the Ebola virus in Africa. These brave doctors are working in incredibly challenging conditions, and every dollar can make a difference.

It is my pleasure to announce two winners of the draw. The first person selected randomly will receive a bottle of vintage Guerlain Mitsouko extrait de parfum. The second person selected randomly will receive a brand new bottle of Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire (thank you, Ann, for donating it to this great cause). And the winners are…

Edit: it seems that the video file I uploaded doesn’t show up for some of you, and since I’m traveling, I can’t fix it right now. So, not to delay announcing the results further–the first winner is Katerina Mavrou who will be receiving Mitsouko. The second winner is Sun Fontaine, who will be receiving La Petite Robe Noire. Congratulations!

Again, a big thank you to all participants for your generosity!

It is my first “real” perfume! 🙂 I would like to express my thanks to Victoria for her brilliant idea to organise this charity project and to all of you who participated. I have Mitsouko as eau de toilette, but I am very curious to smell the real thing. I will let you know my impressions … October 2, 2014 at 2:37pm Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you for your contribution, Katerina, and of course, congratulations! I’m glad that Mitsouko will be going to a home where it will be appreciated. If you need help opening vintage bottles, do let me know. The seal doesn’t look like it could be that tricky to open, but you never know with these old flacons. October 3, 2014 at 4:45am Reply

  • Brenda: Guerlain is…and has always been…one of my favourite perfume houses. It is interesting to me now that, when I I’ll back, I was fond of these perfumes even when I didn’t realize it was becoming a lifelong passion. I was the one amongst my teenage friends who saved up for a bottle of perfume instead of, say…a Beatles record or wallet or magazines. I have a question for anyone who might feel like answering…..for some reason, lately I have found myself giving my perfume bottles a shake before spraying. I have no idea why…is this a good thing, a bad thing…or an insignificant new habit? Thanks in advance… October 2, 2014 at 4:16pm Reply

    • Victoria: It shouldn’t make a difference, I don’t think. Sometimes I do that too, almost instinctively. October 3, 2014 at 4:46am Reply

  • Cornelia Blimber: Great result, Victoria!

  • solanace: Thank you, Victoria, for hosting this! I was reading an article yesterday about hate crimes on the internet, and couldn´t help thinking that our community has nothing but love and wit (and perfume!) to share. Thank you for catalysing this. As for the funds raised, I´m pretty sure that the numbers will actually be even higher. I, for instance, became a monthly contributor, and am pretty sure that others here did the same. October 2, 2014 at 7:10pm Reply

    • Victoria: I think that when people share a common passion and take pleasure in engaging with others, there is no room for negativity.
Thank you again! All of these contributions make such a difference, since MSF relies extensively on private donations, unlike many other charity organizations. This allows it to be flexible, honest and independent. October 3, 2014 at 4:56am Reply

      • Solanace: I once was treated by one of their doctors who was really nice, had travelled everywhere, worked in Haiti after the earthquake and oh, my… so cute! If I could do a Denyse Beaulieu move, this would be my inspiration, lol! I had to stay on observation for a few hours, and left in love with the organization – let’s put it that way. Hope they all stay safe while fighting Ebola for us. October 3, 2014 at 6:50am Reply

        • Victoria: Smart, brave and cute–what a combination! 🙂
