Our US perfume box is ready to make its next round. If you are in the States and would like to participate, here is how you can do it. And whether you’re participating or not, please read Cindy’s perfume descriptions below.
How does it work: To enter, please post a comment answer these questions: 1) are you in the USA, and if you’re a winner, can I share your email address with Cindy? ; 2) do you agree to pass the box onto someone else within two weeks or so (add a couple of your own samples and share your sampling notes with the rest of us)? and 3) what perfume are you wearing today? I will pick the next person to receive the box via a random number generator. I will announce that person in this spot and contact them via email. The box goes to Theresa.
Winners, please read this part closely: When you’re ready to pass the box onto someone else, please get in touch with me. Please include 2 things in your email: the full list of samples and your sampling notes (what you’ve discovered, what you’ve liked/disliked, any observations you care to include).
To check the progress of our boxes, please click on the Traveling Sample Box tag.
Hanae Mori Paris Eau de Toilette. Initial reaction–too sweet for my taste. Flowery versus. Reminded me too much of dollar store vanilla musk. Faint hint of the fragrance in the morning was rather pleasant!
Byredo Black Saffron. Spicier palette more to my liking but very light bodied. Can’t imagine it will last long. And it didn’t. Too bad as I enjoyed the delicate powder and sandalwood. Couldn’t compete with my morning coffee aroma. Perhaps the sample has aged poorly?
Amouage Opus II. Love this. First scent of evergreen and lemon, then into cedar. Light and clean. Green tones in the middle, perhaps the jasmine? Dissipates into a delicious powder that lingers. Found it online $355 for 100 ml. I’ve never been a cheap date lol.
Nicolai patchouli intense today. So many fragrances use patchouli, thought I’d try to single it out for future reference. Nice and spicy but seems a bit heavy. Then suddenly, it reminded me of something my dad had worn years ago. Aramis perhaps? Long lasting fragrance may be the epitome of a unisex fragrance.
Angel by Thierry Mugler, very interesting beginning after a first whiff of sweetness that disappeared immediately. Green and earthier than I expected. A surprise, given the name which suggests something lighter and effervescent. Dissipates into soft vanilla and spice. I wish it had more staying power though as I reapplied it after 3 hours.
Tom Ford Sahara Noir. I find this strangely appealing even though it smells of high masses in musty cathedrals. First impression was cinnamon and frankincense. Changed to nutmeg, incense and pine. Brooding and sensual.
Ofresia Eau de toilette diptyque Paris. Floral, light, not too sweet. Not overly complex but pleasant.
Serge Lutens Jenx de Peau. Pleasant to start. A bit too sweet at the end for me.
Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. Too medicinal for my taste. Reminds me of insecticide. ):
Sonoma Scent Studio To Dream. Pleasant woodsy fragrance with the softness of baby powder. Delicate.
Harvey Prince Journey. Mmmmm. Starts out a beautiful floral with underlying woods and mellows into spices. Yum. Looked this up online and they changed the name to Sincerely, possibly because another brand was using the original name.
Aftelier Cacao. Soft spices and chocolate, another scent that reminds me of my childhood. Cocoa on a cold night? Dissolves into oranges. Not overpowering. Creamy finish.
Passage d’Enfer L’Artisan Parfument. Moss and spices.
Lolita Lempicka. OK, nothing special. Starts out a bit sweet for me.
Montale Blue Amber. Spicy and exotic. Incense. Yum. I must have been a flower child in another life as I seem drawn to this genre.
Nosomato Absinth. Started off with an interesting but somewhat astringent fragrance of evergreens, possibly juniper? Mellowed nicely.
Profumum Vanitas. Maple syrup and vanilla ice cream. Creamy and sweet.

Anna F.: 1) are you in the USA, and if you’re a winner, can I share your email address with Cindy? yep and yep.
2) do you agree to pass the box onto someone else within two weeks or so (add a couple of your own samples and share your sampling notes with the rest of us)? definitely, although I just got into perfumes about 3 weeks ago and my notes may not be very helpful!
3) what perfume are you wearing today? I got my hands on a sample of Shalimar. (Thank you, Sephora!) I liked it 1 hr in (far more than its initial smell), but I sprayed it last night before sleeping and there isn’t a hint left 🙁 July 23, 2015 at 12:17pm
Loni D: 1) Absolutely
2) Also absolutely. I have a few indie/niche I would love to add.
3) Miss Dior Le Parfum. I just received it as a mistake from Scentbird, but it’s lovely. A nice, sophisticated floral – very well balanced. Nothing truly spectacular or surprising, but well done and very wearable. Like a classic romantic comedy. Predictable but still enjoyable. I wish it lasted longer though. I sprayed it a few hours ago and there’s barely a trace left, which is odd, since it’s longevity seems to be selling point. My skin is known to swallow scent whole, so perhaps its just my skin chemistry. July 23, 2015 at 1:17pm

3) what perfume are you wearing today? Lizie by Sweet Anthem. It has such a wonderful earthy, fresh from the garden smell. Notes of dirt, oakmoss, immortelle and tomato leaf. July 23, 2015 at 1:36pm
Katherine: Your Lizie perfume sounds wonderful. Does it project much? I am testing a sample of CB I Hate Perfume “The Memory of Kindness” which has a strong tomato leaf note as well – combined with a powdery/flowery scent. I adore the scent itself but my problem with it is that the scent is closer to the skin than I prefer. July 23, 2015 at 10:56pm

D: Yes I’m in the USA, you may share my email address, I will add to the box and pass it on, and I have finally gotten my hands on a bottle of Clinique Wrappings!
So I am wearing that with much happiness. It is perfect for summer, even though it is a winter holidays fragrance.
Green, jasmine, oak moss, carnation and “sea notes.” I’ve never smelled it before as there are never testers, and it’s always sold out before I find it at Christmas. Glad I persisted and now it pushes aside Estee, Private Collection, ô de Lancome, and 4711 as my summer fling.
Admission: teen summer flings included Love’s Lemon Fresh, Rain Scent and Rain Forest, and of course, Jean Naté (formulated in 1935! I had no idea.) ah, youth. July 23, 2015 at 7:09pm
Diana W: 1. I live in the US and you may share my contact.

3) First, Flowerbomb. I was traveling today and keep a small bottle of it in my toilletries bag. I won’t be heart broken if it gets lost, spoiled or taken away by the TSA.
Second, Diorella. After a long day I wanted to treat myself when I returned home. I kissed myself with Diorella.
Third, Diorissimo. Diorella doesn’t last on me and it’s time for bed. I’ll be snuggling with Diorissimo as it uplifts me to dreamland.
Sweet dreams to all. Bedtime here in D.C. July 23, 2015 at 10:53pm
