Doctors Without Borders Fundraiser : Let’s Plan Together

Every year around this time I plan a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders, an independent organization that provides medical help in the places affected by military conflicts and natural disasters. It’s one of the most respected and admired charities. Everyone who contributes will be entered to win a prize. This year I have been asked to do so again, and a couple of readers contacted me to contribute their bottles of perfume to the prize pool. Thank you, your generosity is appreciated.

So here is my question to you: Would anyone else be interested to contribute a bottle of perfume to the draw? You will only have to mail it to a winner selected randomly. If so, please let me know. The more prizes we have, the more chances participants have in winning.

If you agree to contribute a prize, please take it as a serious obligation, in a sense that you will be counted on to send the prize to the winner selected within timely manner–clean, neat and well-packaged. (However,  the sender won’t be liable for loss in transit or custom duties.)

  • kayliz: Oh good, I was trying(and failing) to get round to writing a mail: I’d love to contribute a 30ml bottle of Theorema:)
It’s in its box, without cellophane (not sure whether they were sold with or without), but unused.
Am in Germany, will send anywhere where it won’t be confiscated by customs.

Still very happily using the Fille de Berlin I was lucky enough to win last year! November 10, 2016 at 7:46am Reply

  • Caroline: Yes! Have a whole list, and will leave it to your discretion regarding which would be good candidates. Will send a message to your Contacts folder later today, have to run out shortly. Great idea/cause, thanks for hosting. November 10, 2016 at 7:48am Reply

  • Sandra: I will look! I am sure I have a bottle of something
How does this work, we donate to DWB and send the receipt to you to be entered? November 10, 2016 at 8:19am Reply

    • Victoria: Yes, exactly like that–donate, send me a receipt, and I will add you to the list. The amount, of course, is entirely up to you. I will put up a proper post where I will provide extra info and links, but if anyone wants to start donating now, they are more than welcome. We already have a couple of wonderful prizes and I’m preparing something very interesting for my part.

  • Lily: I have a mystery Goutal that was gifted to me, it is somewhere 75-90% full (been a while since I looked). From the color and notes I can detect I think either Passion or Grand Amour, but it had been a gift to my gifted, and they lost all packaging. I would love to donate as a way to get it to a better home. The scent is not for me. November 10, 2016 at 9:26am Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you for your offer, Lily, but I’m a bit reluctant to offer something of unknown provenance. It might be a bit awkward. November 10, 2016 at 11:09am Reply

  • Hamamelis: I have a new bottle of Ambre de Merveilles, 100 mls, and an almost full bottle of Tocade, and a 10 mls travel refill (no atomizer, so you will have to either dab or pour it into one) of Amouage’s Epic.
I am in Europe, so I can’t send it to the UK or VS regrettably. November 10, 2016 at 12:09pm Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you very much. No worries about shipping. If a winner is in the US, you can just send it to me. Sending to the UK is not different from sending anywhere in the EU; it’s only sending from the UK to the EU that’s the problem. But if for some reason you don’t want to send there, no problem again; I will do it myself. November 10, 2016 at 12:15pm Reply

      • Hamamelis: Great, then I will send it to the UK when needed, or to you when there is an US winner. I mistakenly mentioned Epic but it is Lyric I am donating. November 10, 2016 at 4:56pm Reply

I can contribute a 50 ml bottle of Burberry BRIT Rhythm,EDT, spritzed once, literally, box included.
Also available for contribution: Guerlain, Aqua Allegoria Pampelune, EDT, 75 ml, box included. Tried this one couple of times, only to discover, that, sadly, it is not me. It is 85 % full…. , hence I am not sure if this one will qualify for donation and will understand if not…
Please let me know if You are interested, and, if yes, how do I proceed further.I would love to help..
I live in NYS, upstate, but I am of Polish provenance :).

I would like to donate, if you think it’s okay in the condition as is (virtually full).
I can only ship in the US (not Hawaii or Alaska):

    1. Guerlain Shalimar EDT, 2014 batch (30 ml, minus a few sprays), in the box if I can find the box!

    2. L’Artisan limited edition Explosions d’Emotions Onde Sensuelle EDP (50 ml, minus a few sprays), in box

Histoire d’Eau Topaze; 75 ml. edt, maybe 3-4 mls. missing. (no box)
Thé Blanc: 75 ml. edt, probably 10 ml. missing, tester bottle, no cap, no box.
Gucci Envy 100 ml. edt, probably 60 ml. left. tester bottle, no cap, no box.

Trying to locate these bottles I discovered another item:

The receipt bit is for people who are donating money to the fundraiser. If you’re contributing a perfume, you don’t need to send me anything. Just a description of your prize. I have a rather rare (at least in Europe I assume) full bottle of Shiseido White Rose which a friend bought in Tokyo a few months ago. It is in a stopper bottle so I worry about how easy it is to send (it remains in the round box as well) but I will gladly do my best to parcel it safely and send it to you for you to check and send on. Let me know if you think this would be credible and how best to go about this. November 11, 2016 at 12:19pm Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you very much, Sophie! That is certainly a rare treat. You need not send it to me first, though. Are you in the UK, or am I mistaken? If you’re in the UK, you can’t send perfume outside of your country’s borders, so your prize might have to be the UK specific. November 12, 2016 at 9:26am Reply

      • SophieC: I am in the UK and a you say probably have to offer the prize only in the UK – is that something that still works for the fundraising? November 14, 2016 at 9:40am Reply

        • Victoria: Yes, of course. I will randomly draw a winner for your prize out of the UK participants. Unfortunately, there is no other way to circumnavigate these strict rules. November 15, 2016 at 3:14am Reply

    Put me down for

*L’Heure Bleue edp 50ml. Like new, in box

*Arz El-Rab by Berdoues 100ml. Like new in box.

  • Bernadette: Hi V., Thank you for putting this wonderful fundraiser together. I have 2 bottles to offer: the first is Byredo’s Accord Oud (50ml). Fragrantica has a good description on their site. Limegreen very generously shared many samples with me & both my husband and I liked this one. This is a full bottle but does not have the cellophane wrapper. I purchased it from Luckyscent, so it’s origin is known. The second bottle is Bulgari’s Black (75 ml), which is still in the cellophane. It is a favorite of mine (and now discontinued). Both are unisex fragrances. I am happy to ship to the US (or to Victoria’s mom for people to receive overseas). November 12, 2016 at 2:37pm Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you very much, Bernadette. Do you want to ship to one or to two people? November 13, 2016 at 6:14am Reply

    • limegreen: Hi Bernadette! Hope you are well – so generous of you to donate your Accord Oud since I know you were fond of this one. 🙂 November 15, 2016 at 10:36am Reply

      • Bernadette: Hi Limegreen! It is through your benevolence that I “pay if forward” with the Accord Oud 😉 . Both you & Victoria inspire with your thoughtfulness. Anyone who is a fan of leather (count me in), will find something to appreciate about these leather scents. P.S. DWB: I worked some medical professionals who participated with these programs. One surgery that they routinely performed was to repair cleft lip/cleft palates for children; considered a simple/routine operation in the U.S., it was life-transforming to those children. This is a fun way to support a great cause. November 15, 2016 at 1:22pm Reply

  • Liz: I have a 75 ml bottle of Magie Noir edt with only a few test sprays out of it. Still have the box, but not any of the inside packaging. I bought it this year; a blind buy from zulily, which is an online discount store. I thought I might love it and was trying to find a classic to add to my fledgling collection. Sadly I cannot even like this one until the very end when it turns somewhat woody. But the initial stages are barely tolerable to me. It’s literally just too much for me.

I also have a 30 ml bottle of black opium from the same sale. If anyone would be interested. Again, only a few sprays out of it. No box.

Would you like to mail them to one person or to separate the bottles for two prizes? November 13, 2016 at 12:17pm Reply

      • Liz: Whatever would be your preference. I’m really happy to participate. And I will also donate to dwb and try to win someone else’s donation whenever you post the details of how that part works. And I’m afraid my cash donation won’t be much, but every bit helps, right?

        Thanks!! November 13, 2016 at 1:41pm Reply

        • Victoria: Let’s do two prizes then, if that’s ok. More chances for others to win.

And of course, every bit helps! November 13, 2016 at 2:26pm Reply

  • Alison Powers: Hello Victoria – I would love to donate my bottle of Chloe Eau de Parfum. I have the box and it is barely used and purchased two winters ago. The silver on the top of the bottle has begun to patina a bit; I’ve heard of some complaints and the packaging insert also conveys that the silver will naturally change. Otherwise, the ribbon is still on it and it is in quite good condition. I would be happy to ship to the next lucky owner in the U.S. Thanks! November 13, 2016 at 3:33pm Reply

    • Alison Powers: Oh, and it is 2.5 fl oz/75 ml November 13, 2016 at 3:34pm Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you very much! I know that many like this perfume. November 13, 2016 at 4:08pm Reply

  • Elizabeth: I have an unopened bottle of Bulgari Black Eau de Toilette (2.5 fl.oz) in its original packaging which I’d be happy to donate. As I understand it, this very interesting and unusual scent has been discontinued. It’s a great unisex fragrance, just a little too short-lived on my skin to stockpile an unopened bottle. I’ve never commented on your beautifully written blog, although I’ve been reading it faithfully for three or four years. Thank you for doing such exquisite work. November 13, 2016 at 9:26pm Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you very much! Wrote it down and added it to the list.

Also, thank you for your nice words. They mean a lot. November 14, 2016 at 4:51am Reply

  • Elizabeth: I’m in the U.S., and so would prefer to ship it to someone in North America if possible. November 13, 2016 at 9:29pm Reply

    • Victoria: Great! You can ship to my mom, if a winner is elsewhere. November 14, 2016 at 4:52am Reply

  • Kneale: I’d love to contribute a bottle to this wonderful cause, Victoria! I have a ~65% full bottle of Shalimar Parfum Initiale EDP, 60 ml/2 oz. I can mail to anyone in the continental US. No box but I am an expert packer and sealer 🙂 November 14, 2016 at 9:13am Reply

    • Victoria: Thank you very much! I added it to the list. November 15, 2016 at 3:12am Reply

  • Erry: I hope it’s not too late, I’d like to contribute a bottle of Kenzo Jungle L’elephant, 100ml (I need to check again). I only used it for no more than 5 sprays. It is still in the box and wrapped in bubble-wrapper from when I relocated to Canada 10 months ago. I prefer to send it someone in Canada or Continental US. November 21, 2016 at 11:10am Reply

    • Victoria: This is very kind of you, Erry! Thank you very much. I will add it to the list. November 21, 2016 at 11:54am Reply
