Tuberose Sample Set Giveaway

First of all, I hope that all of my readers in Texas and their loved ones are safe. You’ve been in my thoughts for the past several days.

I wanted to announce some website updates. You might have noticed that Bois de Jasmin now appears in the secure https format. I hope the change will make it more comfortable place. There is nothing you have to do; all of the redirections from the old site are automatic, but you can always update your bookmarks to

I enjoyed our recent tuberose discussion so much that I was inspired to make a couple of sample sets for friends and share my tuberose love. It’s the most extravagant of flowers, and all of us need a bit of indulgence now. For this reason I decided to make an extra set for you. It includes both the fragrances I mentioned in my recent article and a few surprises. Some tuberoses in my set are suitable for men, by the way. Tuberose sample set of 10 perfumes (2ml vials) will be shipped to one Bois de Jasmin reader anywhere in the world (but please don’t hold lost packages against me).

To participate, please answer these questions. I will randomly draw one winner.

1. If you could pick your top 5 favorite perfumes today, what would they be?
2. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win?

The contest is now closed. Dionne is the winner. Congratulations! I will be in touch soon. I will announce the winner’s name in this spot this week.

  • mj: oooohhh! thanks for the draw! I’m not very familiar with tuberose scents, they scare me a bit. I like the flower, nardos as they are called in Spain, even if I find the scent a bit too heavy.
So my top 5 favorites right now (in no order)
    – Azzedine Alaia (the blanche one)
    – Gallop d’Hermes
    – Dior Homme
    – Diorella
    – Chanel 19

I also like LV Dans La Peau, but it’s too similar to Gallop, and I like Gallop better.

    cheers! September 4, 2017 at 7:33am

  • JH: Thank you Victoria for the giveaway! As a man I’ve come to realise that I do love white florals, including tuberose. My favourite is Nicolai’s Number One Intense. Neela’s Pichola is a nice one as well, maybe a tad too sweet (could be the lotus flower). My partner loves white florals as well. We smelled Do Son once and he liked it. I bought him an LAP Histoire d’orangers which he enjoys. He’s also crazy for narcissus (white floral? yellow floral?). I found a bottle of the discontinued Nicolai Le Temps d’une Fête a couple of weeks ago. He loved that so much that he urged me to go back for a second bottle!

    1. Top 5 for today: Guerlain Derby, Nahéma (wearing now), Nicolaï New York Intense, Ormonde Jayne Woman, YSL Rive Gauche. I’m sure these names will change on another day!
    2. Yes, yes. September 4, 2017 at 7:41am

  • Orl: Hi there, thank you very much for the giveaway.

    1. My 5 favourite perfumes right now are: Vetiver Tonka, Bulgari Black, Terre d’Hermes, Seville a l’aube and Timbuktu

    2. Yes, you may contact me via e-mail

Good luck to everybody September 4, 2017 at 7:45am

  • Ben: Tuberose is such a joy. Yes! Count me in, and happy to be contacted by email.

Now that September has come I’m really feeling the shift in the weather, and I’m *loving* the return of darker, autumnal scents. So my top 5 right now are wildly different to my top 5 from a month ago:

    1. Charogne – I can’t get enough of the radical shift that this scent makes in the first 30 minutes or so. It’s a remarkable piece of design.
    2. Serge Noir – Oh Serge… will I *ever* get bored of you? For some reason this scent really wasn’t working for me all summer, so it’s a joy to find its magic has returned.
    3. Bois d’Ascese – After staying in a log cabin recently, Naomi Goodsir’s scent has moved from an intellectual space to a visceral, textured, physical experience. I just can’t get enough of this at the moment.
    4. Rien – I’m a broken record for talking about this scent, and today is no different. Like Serge Noir, I’ve stayed away from this one for pretty much the entire summer, and tentatively went back to it about a week ago. But what a joy. Yes, it’s absolutely not for everyone, but it genuinely feels like this scent is interweaved with who I am on a physical, intellectual, and spiritual level.
    5. Horizon – not on me, but on my partner. She wore it the other day, and we were walking through a meadow that was alive with the sound of crickets, and I slowed down to see if I could see any of them in the long grass and *that* was when the scent of Horizon hit me. For some reason I hadn’t noticed it up until that point, but wow… there was so much going on there. Like an old exotic library that houses all the books you’ve ever wanted in a building so fabulous that you feel you need to speak and step quietly. Ah, that was a great moment. September 4, 2017 at 7:47am

  • Karen A: What a wonderful giveaway, Victoria! Hmmm, my five favorites today, definitely reflect the cool weather we’ve had the past few days:

    3. Carnal Flower, one I never want to be without
    4. Precious Liquid’s White Incense, been craving incense lately and this is a beauty
    5. Atkinson’s Amber Empire, love love love amber and this is warm and like a cashmere wrap

Please feel free to contact me! And thanks again. September 4, 2017 at 8:37am

    • Cassieflower: Hi Sandra,
Glad to see that your great love affair with Songes is still going strong. Have you tried the glittering body oil in it? Just divine😍 September 5, 2017 at 4:54pm

      • sandra: Where do I find this??? September 5, 2017 at 7:02pm

        • Cassieflower: I got mine online from a store in Netherlands, but I know you’re in the US. Get onto Mr. Google and see what that throws up. You will probably strike it lucky. September 6, 2017 at 3:58am

          • Sandra: no luck on google or the e bay September 7, 2017 at 10:21am

            • Cassieflower: Aw I’m sorry about that. I just checked the site where I bought mine, and it’s not available anymore. It may have been on a limited release, but I’m guessing they will bring it back as it was very popular. I wish I hadn’t got your hopes up now.😔 But keep your eyes peeled for it! September 7, 2017 at 11:12am

  • Maria-Anna: What a wonderful giveaway! I’ve been thinking about tuberose in the last few days, because I recently smelled Twilly d’Hermes and the blotter has been perfuming my living room. I would of course be very happy to be contacted by email.

    1. SJP Stash – got it as a bargain, and its ease and radiance has been giving me a lot of joy. Strangely, I almost get a pina colada nuance in the open – just me?
    2. Prada Infusions d’Iris – replaced by 1. at the moment as the easy go-to, but still love it; so crisp and put together.
    3. Shalimar – wore it for the first time after a long break and was amazed all over again by its richness and daring (and that’s not even having tried the parfum).
    4. Etat Libre d’Orange Eau de Protection/Rossy de Palma – clear, powerful, and for those days when I need to be fiercer than I think I am.
    5. Caron Nuit de Noel – I remember first trying it in the very early days of my perfume hobby and not getting it at all, just a generic ‘vintage’ impression. Re-tested it about a week ago, and it opened up into its full warmth and spicy intrigue. Had a similar experience with L’Heure Bleue at an airport recently. September 4, 2017 at 9:34am

But I was heading out to meet my husband for an after work coffee, and there it was in the store window!

I had to smile at mj’s comment on how tuberose scents scare her (him?). I’m the same. I love smell of tuberose, but I’m not sure if I can pull off a tuberose scent. They tend to be a bit overpowering. Well, only one wat to find out, I guess…..

  • Diana Wilderr: Lovely notion:

    1. Paris by Yves Saint Laurent. I spritzed some on my wrist the summer of 1986, and it saturated my watch band. I sighed over the scent all weekend, went back and bought the perfume.

    2. Clinique – every person who wore a wonderful scent one summer, one that caught my attention and made me think of windy gardens full of flowers, said ‘Why, Clinique!’ when asked about the scent. It is wonderful for a Monday when I’m mourning the end of the week and need something to make me feel capable and beautiful.

    3. Euphoria by Calvin Kline. I found a little sample of it, half empty, on a shelf. I tried it, love it, and bought a bottle of the perfume. Being surrounded by that scent makes me feel secure, in control, and elegant. (I need to find a way to open that taco-shaped bottle and decant the perfume into a vessel that is easier to handle.)

    4. Sortilege by le Galion. My mother wore this when I was a child. I rediscovered it last year. Exqu8isitely old fashioned.

    5. Chanel No. 5. September 4, 2017 at 9:11pm

  • Lorie: Hi Victoria! My husband just asked yesterday if I’m going to your next perfume workshop, since I never stop talking about the April one! Wonderful time!

  • Aurora: What a generous idea, but do not enter me as my relation with tuberose is complicated (too heady most of the time). I’m enjoying reading the comments and would like to share the perfumes I love now, I want to hang on to summer for a while thus:

Christian Dior vintage Eau Fraiche (deceptively simple, remarkable longevity on my skin)

Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil (I love both the mango opening, not sickly but unripe and the incensy, musky drydown)

AdP Mandorlo di Sicilia (the best almond I found even better than l’Instant Magic)

Molton Brown Ylang-Ylang (I explored this line recently and was impressed by several)

L’Eau de Monteil (a precursor to other salty, flowery scents so popular now)

And thank you for making BdJ more secure.

Good luck everybody. September 5, 2017 at 7:01am

    3. Chanel Cuir de Russie (the Parfum is exquisite)
    4. Guerlain Shalimar Parfum

  • Erry: In Indonesia, where I am from, tuberose is widely used, esp. during a wedding. The couple’s room is filled with vases of tuberose and the couple themselves are adorned with jasmine on their hair, as a necklace, and so on. When the bride/groom in the room, it is basically white flowers galore.

Anyway, thank you for the generous giveaway. Here’s my list of top-5 favorite perfumes as of today:

    1. Guerlain – Apres L’Ondee
    2. Masque Milano – L’Atessa
    3. Grossmith – Hasu no Hana
    4. Serge Lutens – Iris Silver Mist
    5. Annick Goutal – Songes

And yes, you can contact me via e-mail.

I love Tuberose, the flower, and I think its live form scent is not as scary as its perfume/fragrance version. However, I haven’t found my tuberose scent yet. I like CF but it’s too coconutty for my taste. I prefer Tubereuse Criminelle for its cool aspect, because that’s what I get and what I like from the real flower. September 5, 2017 at 1:55pm

      • Karina: Thanks, Tati. Tsarina is ridiculously overpriced, but it’s such a lovely combination of iris and suede on my skin. Rich, but restrained at the same time. It’s not as opulent as the name might suggest, but I find elegant in an almost aloof, understated kind of way. September 7, 2017 at 2:41pm

  • Nora Szekely: Hi Victoria and perfume lovers,
What a lovely idea. I’m more and more enamoured with tuberose scents, and love many from subtle Carnal flower to heady Fracas.

1.My top 5 as of today would be :

Cuir de Russie : the perfume for my soulmate, I wear it to remember true love exists
Carnal flower : a coup de foudre scent, I first tried in Brussels 🙂 and wear ever since
Portrait of a lady : my most complimented fume, I feel more like myself with it than without it
Chanel Coco extrait : I own a vintage extrait and cherish it like treasure, this perfume makes me feel cozy, luxuriously elegant and warm
L’heure bleue : I bought it by mistake as I mixed up its name with Apres l’Ondee but it turned out to be one of my best mistakes. It appeals to my softer, introverted side, I mostly wear it when I’m home alone, it is a journey within.

    2. Of course you can contact me via e-mail. September 6, 2017 at 9:53am

My top five scents today – probably all in my permanent top 25:

    1. Traversee du Bosphore
    2. Bois d’Orange Huile Sublime, Roger & Gallet (this is much more sun-lotion-y & vanillic than the perfume)
    3. Attrape-Coeur
    4. Diptyque Do Son
    5. Terracotta Voile d’Ete

Can you tell it’s cold & wet here? Although I’m feeling thankful for a relatively mild storm & praying for all those affected by extreme weather in the rest of the world… September 8, 2017 at 8:40am

  • Silvermoon: Ah, this is really difficult, but will give it a try. In general, I am a rose and tuberose fan, but also amber and softer leathers, spice and incence.

At the moment (keeping season in mind, which affects my perfume wearing mood), my top 5 in no specific order are:
    1. L’Heure Bleu (this is probably my favourite all round)
    2. Paestum Rose
    3. Maai (bogue perfumes)
    4. Lys Mediterranee
    5. Aria de Capri (Carthusia)
Actually, I love tuberose in summer, and could list top five of those , so deliberately left all out. Of course, come autumn/winter, I would probably list others.

Victoria, I know I am past the giveaway draw, but simply listed these for the fun of it! September 9, 2017 at 5:20am
