L’Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu Perfume Giveaway

Today we have a giveaway thanks to one of our readers. JC offered to send one of you a bottle of  L’Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu (Eau de Toilette, 50 ml, almost full, paper box included). JC received it as a gift and found it “beautiful but sharp.” JC is in Germany and can send her bottle anywhere, as long as you don’t hold him responsible for customs.

It goes without saying that we are not responsible for leaks or damage during transit or for lost packages.

To participate, please answer these questions. I will randomly draw one winner.

  1. Please help JC find another woody perfume that you don’t think is too sharp.
  2. What perfume are you wearing today and why did you pick it?
  3. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win?

The contest is now closed. The winner is Inga. Congratulations! I will contact you via email.

  • Flávia Leite-Dias: L’ Air Du Desert Marocain by Tauer is a beautiful soft woody fragrance.

I am a public health nurse and today is my day off. I am going to have a lunch with a friend and my sister, and I am wearing Ombre De Hyacinth by Tom Ford. I woke up feeling very happy and this fragrance always brings me sweety memories.

    Have a great weekend!!! January 12, 2018 at 7:57am

  • Flávia Leite-Dias: Yes, you can contact me via email 🙂 January 12, 2018 at 7:59am

  • Ben: *gasp* I’ve always wanted to try Timbuktu! More than happy to be contacted too 🙂

Obviously this is all very subjective, but it might be worth trying Ryder by Ex Idolo? It’s a sweet, rich, opulent scent, and one that I can’t imagine as coming across as too sharp.

I have also recently come into possession of (drum roll) Moss by Perfumer H. Now this is not cheap, and is probably one of the best gifts I’ll ever receive, but it’s a wonderful journey – woody and green, but without being what I call *too* green, and descending into a gorgeously sweet drydown – a difficult balancing act.

Today I’m wearing Andy Tauer’s L’air du Desert Marocain. It’s a scent that I’ve worn so many times now you’d think I’d tire of it, but apparently not. January 12, 2018 at 8:14am

  • Hayley: Diptyque Vetyverio is woodsy and earthy, and definitely not sharp.

I am wearing Amouage Interlude Woman today, from a sample. It is certainly interesting but I am not sure if I like it.

And of course, please feel free to contact me 🙂 January 12, 2018 at 9:08am

    • OnWingsofSaffron: 🤣 while I was typing, you posted your comment. And wow: you are wearing Amouage AND you too suggest vetiver + wood! Now that‘s what I call coincidence!! January 12, 2018 at 9:16am

  • OnWingsofSaffron: Hallo JC, was für ein wunderbares Geschenk, das Sie verschenken: sehr großzügig von Ihnen!
I am wearing Amouge, Opus III, and I chose it as it was the only perfume I had brought along to Berlin.
A woody fragrance: does vetiver count as “woody“ (brown) or does it count as a „green“ scent? I find vetiver plus wood add up to a nice smooth fragrance.
Another woody scent would be ceder: Serge Lutens „Bois de violette“ is quite wonderful and I believe comletely unisex.
Yes, by all means can you contct me!
Dankeschön und viele Grüße January 12, 2018 at 9:13am

  • Michele Eskinsn: Have heard a lot of buzz around Byredo’s Gypsy Water, for both men and women. I just purchased a Hermes collection box from Sephora, which included a small bottle of Twilly. Love it and will buy a full-size. Only drawback is that the fragrance doesn’t last long. Absolutely, feel free to contact me via e-mail. January 12, 2018 at 9:55am

  • Monica: Thank you JC and Victoria for this beautiful giveaway.

    1. Chanel Sycomore
    2. Today I am wearing I Profumi di Firenze Ambra del Nepal, because it is one of my favorite ambers and I had not worn it in a while.
    3. You can contact me via email January 12, 2018 at 9:56am

  • Kathleen Smith: Today I am sampling Nishane Istanbul Afrika Olifant and L’Artisan Al Oudh, both wonderful. Woody and not sharp at all. I’d love to be entered for Timbukt; I’ve read about it but never sniffed. You can contact me by email.
    Thank you! January 12, 2018 at 10:06am

  • Mary: 1. Tam Dao is woody but soft
    2. I’m wearing Tabacco Toscano by Santa Maria Novella. It’s lovely but I wish it had more heft
    3. I’d be more than delighted for you to contact me, as I’ve been after Timbuktu for ages.
Thanks to JC for the offer January 12, 2018 at 10:10am

  • Hamamelis: Don’t enter me in the draw! but thanks anyway!

    1. Precious Woods April Aromatics (you can buy a sample on her website), or SJP’s Stash
    2. Annick Goutal Rose Absolue I haven’t been wearing much else for weeks

Good luck with your Woods quest! January 12, 2018 at 10:19am

    • Aurora: Hello Hamamelis, so nice to see you here and Happy New Year. Rose Absolue is so nice and as a fresh rose only Penhaligons Elisabethan Rose tops it for me. Do you know it? January 13, 2018 at 10:27am

      • Hamamelis: Hi Aurora, so nice to see you too! Have not been around much on any of the blogs, partially job and health related, but also I seem to have lost my perfume love! But I was assured by Kafka that this is a perfectly normal perfumista phase, and it should come back at some time! And Rose Absolue is pulling me through 😉 as are April Aromatics scents. I am surely going smell Elisabethan Rose. Also so funny, I never got along with rose, and now it is the only note I am comfortable with. How are you Aurora? Are you well? January 13, 2018 at 11:04am

        • Aurora: So sorry you had health problems, and I knew you were busy with work but do take time out to look after yourself. I’m quite well thank you and it’s so interesting that you lost interest in perfume at the moment with the exception of rosy perfumes. For me it’s been the reverse and since my class with Victoria I have acquired a collection of vintage bottles. All my best, Aurora January 13, 2018 at 12:24pm

  • JH: Oh I’ve never say Timbuktu is sharp. I love Timbuktu. But if JC wants another softer vetiver, what about the good old Guerlain Vétiver?
Today I’m wearing Nicolaï’s Vie de Château Intense, which I just bought yesterday at a very good price!
Thanks for the giveaway and yes you can contact me by email. January 12, 2018 at 10:25am

    • JH: Oops I mean “I’d never say” not “I’ve never say”. January 12, 2018 at 10:26am

  • colleen geary: Sage and Sea Salt by Jo Malone is woodsy. I am wearing Hypnose by Lancome – I find it a nice day fragrance for the office. Please contact me by email should I win! Thank you – Happy weekend! January 12, 2018 at 10:36am

  • Claudia Strandstra: Bois des Iles is woody but not too sharp. I love it, especially the perfume. I’m wearing Dior Mitzah today because it’s beautiful and my students love it! Thank you! January 12, 2018 at 10:43am

  • Julie Demelo: Hello Victoria and JC–
Thank you for the generous giveaway. 🙂
I have two suggestions for JC.
    1. Fille en Aiguilles (Serge Lutens) with pine needles and balsam I can’t think of anything more woody and yet meditative at the same time. I adore it and find it soft.
    2. Also, Corso Como 10… Sandalwood perfume & softness!
    3. Lastly, I’ll be wearing Fille en Aiguilles today. Feel free to contact me via email. I hope you find something you enjoy JC.
Thanks again, Timbuktu has been on my “need to try list ” and it sounds delightful! January 12, 2018 at 10:56am

  • TrishD: If you want wood, I don’t think you can do better than Chêne by Serge Lutens. It’s nothing to do with oak, but is a gorgeous cedar fragrance with tonka base notes, beautifully warm and woody. Today I’m wearing vintage Tocade, which I topped up with a bit of Safran Troublant – a lovely fragrance but with no lasting power. The Tocade, on the other hand, dries down softly on my skin, with a vanillic, rosy, sherbety scent – I’ve been wearing a lot of this, Calligraphy Rose and Calligraphy Saffron lately, as they are cuddly winter fragrances that are foody and delicious. Yes, you can contact me by email. 🙂 I hope you find something you like, JC. January 12, 2018 at 11:08am

  • Aimbl: Please do not enter me in JC’s generous draw as I had a similar opinion re Timbuktu 🙂 I found Timbuktu too sharp, sparkling and chilly and I believed that it was due to the way the pink peppercorn, Myrrh and vetiver evolved on my skin chemistry. (I have an issue with some green leather scents and certain citrus but not grapefruit). If JC didn’t like the effervescent transluscent style of Timbuktu, I find that style present in a lot of modern Ellena hermes and giacobetti.

Cold toned but not sharp – vetiver, Moss, green tones
Tauers Lonestar Memories (unsweetened and very pared down from his signature Rose chypree etc and smoky incense wood). But not as spiced as LdDM. Caron Yatagan and Encre Noire – both dependent on skin chemistry. Modern Caron Tabac blonde is much ‘cooler’ than vintage TB extrait whihc is like Smokey, mossy, woody incense cognac (no powder). If JC did not like the Myrrh note in Timbuktu, perhaps avoid Piguet Bandit and SL Myrrh (both expressed a lot of cool Myrrh). Bulgari Black (rose, rubber, incense, not sweet).

Warm toned wood – sandalwood, cedar
Sandalwood oil (vintage body shop or other). Chanel coromandel, or a feminine wood, Bois d lies). Malles Noire epices (minimal and structured , compared to any Lutens). Serge Lutens Chene (cedar), cuir M or Ambre Sultan or fumerie turque (more incense smoke and sweet). M. (IMO Lutens Bois lineup is more fruit forward than wood). L artesan Voleur de roses (IMO, very different than the typical l artesan aesthetic). Samsara, my least favorite classic Guerlain, is very woody. Vintage Lagerfeld for men.

Pine- there is a serge Lutens pine scent, fille en aiguilles, too sweet for me, so I gave it away, but it has no sharp edges. Caron Nuit de Noel (the EDT is fine if you cannot source vintage extrait). Vintage Bellodgia (soft carnation wood). Vintage Caron Parfum Sacre – distinct dark Caron.

Since I have made a New Years resolution to use the perfume I own and not buy more, I am wearing guerlain vintage Vol de Nuit, vintage disc bottle EDC. It’s soft but contains wood notes. January 12, 2018 at 11:13am

    • Aimbl: Forgot to add perles de Lalique and Caberet (on the high end there is amouage lyric for some rose tinged wood. January 12, 2018 at 11:16am

    • karima: Great woody recommendations!
I also like your New Year’s resolution. Have also put a ban on new scents, it will take me more than this lifetime to use up what I have! January 12, 2018 at 11:19am

      • karima: Haha, but I am taking part in this giveaway. Not very resolute, ts ts! January 12, 2018 at 11:43am

  • karima: Whoo, this one sounds interesting!

    1) On men, I do love Comme de Garcons 2 (I think that’s the woody one), and have recommended it to two male friends – they don’t know each other – who love it!
    2) Today I am wearing Amouage Lyric for Women, to seduce myself. It makes me feel like a woman I would love to know.
    3) Hell yes, you may email me! January 12, 2018 at 11:17am

    • Aimbl: Thanks! Is CdG 2 anything like CDC Avignon? I love amouage lyric woman and man 🙂 sorry for OT! January 12, 2018 at 11:27am

      • karima: I have not smelled Avignon yet, so cannot give you an answer. What does OT mean? January 12, 2018 at 11:45am

        • Aimbl: Off topic 🙂

Forgot for JC, guerlain Habit Rouge In the dry down is very woody. January 12, 2018 at 6:32pm

          • Notturno7: Habit Rouge is gorgeous! I got the extrait I found on sale once and even my husband who doesn’t like fragrances, ( that’s an understatement 😊He hates fragrance, lol) he returned home unexpectedly because he forgot something, and I , thinking he’d be gone most of the day, I sprayed HR with abandon.
He walkes in and says – you smell great!!!!
And we both ended up laughing cause he knows about my passion for perfumes.
Thanks for your list, Aimbi! January 15, 2018 at 9:30pm

  • Ashley: Hello! I would suggest Escentric Molecules 1 for a woody yet soft fragrance, it’s popular but very unique. I am wearing Le Labo Noir 29 right now because it is a great cold weather/wintery perfume. Yes you can contact me! January 12, 2018 at 11:55am

  • Shannon Allen: For softer woods, I love Etat Libre D’Orange Fat Electrician…it’s very smooth, comforting, and warm! A little bolder, but with zero harsh sharp angles are Chanel’s Sycomore and Bois des Isles.

Today I’m wearing I Profumi di Firenze’s Vaniglia del Madagascar…because it has such a lovely fluffy soft comforting feel.

I am happy to be contacted by email…thank you for the generous giveaway! January 12, 2018 at 12:02pm

  • Kathryn: What about Diptyque’s Tam Dao for a softer woody scent? Right now I’m wearing Black Flower Mexican Vanilla by Dame Perfumery – it feels just right for a rainy winter day. And yes, please do contact me by email if selected. Thanks for the generous giveaway, JC! 🙂 January 12, 2018 at 12:05pm

  • Rita: 1. Must de Cartier Edt. Gorgeous scent!
    2. I am wearing Love in Paris by Nina Ricci. I love spring and Paris. I like the name and I tired of winter…
    3. You can contact me January 12, 2018 at 12:49pm

  • Lutetia: Abbott’s “Sequoia” is my suggestion, a soft composition of “smokey incense, cedarwood and sandalwood.” After Dyptique reformulated Tam Dao, Sequoia was my new choice in a long hunt across New York, London and Paris.

Nuit de Noel – the original vintage extrait – is my scent today, as it is every day of December and January, for decades. One tiny dab daily. I inherited a Bacarrat bottle from my aristocratic grandmother. I wear Nuit de Noel during this season to remind me of cherished memories past, and to inspire me to create cherished memories to come.

And yes, you are most welcome to contact me by email. I would be delighted to meet in person if you have the availability in New York or Paris. January 12, 2018 at 1:02pm

  • LL Grhm: I am wearing a woody perfume that is anything but sharp, I wear it when I want something uplifting, grounded and subdued. I recommend Fico d’India by Ortigia Sicilia. It’s a woody fig with green and wears close to the skin in cold weather and in summer projects more but is still crowd friendly. The price is also I feel quite reasonable. January 12, 2018 at 1:21pm

  • Josey: I highly rec Bvlgari Black. Soft, smooth, and astonishingly cheap for its quality and renown!

Wearing it today 🙂 I wear it often in the colder months.

(You can contact me by email.) January 12, 2018 at 1:23pm

  • Klaas: Wow, what a great giveaway to start the new year! Thank you JC! I’ve heard so much good stuff about Timbuktu, but haven’t had the occasion to try. This would be a great chance to get to know this scent.

Some lovely suggestions for woody fragrances already, but if I may? Santal Massoia from the Hermessences collection is delicious! It’s very woody, but has a nice fig note and lot’s of creaminess going on. Very nice indeed. There’s also Francis Kurkdjians Oud, that’s very luminous and transparant…..For something with a bit more ‘umph’, you could try Santal from Creed. Very old world, and lot’s of punch.

I’m not wearing any fragrance today, I must admit. I’m a teacher, and when at work I want to be as neutral smelling as possible. I am doing laundy though, so typing these words in a cloud of soap and fabric softener (Lenors ‘Spring Awakening’…oh-la-la!)

And yes, you may contact me by mail. January 12, 2018 at 1:24pm

  • Mel: Thx JC & Victoria! I’m thinking CdeG Scent One Monocle: Hinoki! Cedar and vetiver, both earthy and sophisticated. Dry like pencil shavings, but diabolically sexy on a man and don’t think cartoon macho, think classic masculine. Today I chose L’Artisan’s Poivre Piquant because I felt like being sweet and peppery. January 12, 2018 at 2:07pm

  • Mel: Yes you can reach me by e-mail. January 12, 2018 at 2:08pm

  • SQL: 1, I’d say a good sandalwood? I’ve been lavishly using SJP’s Stash for about a year now. Have also gone through 3 samples of Hermes’ Santal Massoia for its milky sweetness, it’s like Ellena milked the sandalwood.

2, Chanel 31 Rue Cambon, cause I felt like wearing something ‘expensive’ today

    3, yes please January 12, 2018 at 2:13pm

  • Filomena: Thanks for the give-away.
    1. Diptyque’s Tam Dao is a woody scent that is not sharp.
    2. Today I’m wearing Andy Tauer’s L’Eau because I wanted to see how it smelled in colder weather…I like it in any weather.
    3. You may contact me by email if I happen to win. January 12, 2018 at 2:46pm

  • Madaris: 1. Tam Dao is my favorite woody scent, light enough for all occasions.
    2. Today I am wearing Meharees by L’Erbolario in creme form because my skin was dry today.
    3. Yes you can notify me by email. January 12, 2018 at 3:22pm

  • Lisa: Perhaps Winter Woods by sonoma scent studio?
I am wearing david jourquin – cuir venitien. Yes you may contact me via email. January 12, 2018 at 5:17pm

  • Theresa: What a generous giveaway! I had a sample once of Timbuktu that I loved.

    1) For other woody fragrances, I like Chanel Sycomore a lot, or the very similar Encre Noire. Or Andy Tauer’s L’air du desert marocain. I wear all 3 of those a lot and find them very satisfying.

    2) Today I am wearing Olympic Orchids’ “Salamanca” . It is cold and drizzly here and I thought it would warm me up!

    3) Yes, you may contact me by email, if I should be supremely fortunate to win! January 12, 2018 at 7:07pm

  • missyl: You might try Serge Luten’s Santal Majescule. It is rich, woody, smooth and I think the dry down is gorgeous.
The new this last year Ummagumma might be a good option for you to try. It has a very dry, woody opening and a sweeter, beautiful cozy drydown
I am wearing Bee’s Bliss by Laurie Erickson/ Sonoma Scent Studio, today. It is a garden full of pollen in the late spring. Just beautiful!
    Yes you may contact me.
Thank you for the drawing opportunity, and your generosity! January 12, 2018 at 7:08pm

  • Nicole: I really enjoy the sandalwood in Joop. But I know that isn’t going to be new to someone in Germany.

Today was a stay in bed day with my little, Seraphina. She has canine lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy for six months. She’s very sensitive to scents so I only had on the Bath and Body Works True Blue Shea Butter body cream that I put on after my shower.

You may contact me via email anytime. January 12, 2018 at 9:47pm

  • Roxann: I would suggest Bois de farine by L’artisan parfumer. Today I wore Tauerville Patch Flash with Comptior sud Pacifique – Matin Calin. Surprisingly good together. Yes you can e mail me. January 12, 2018 at 10:08pm

  • Severine: 1. Diptyque Tam Dao
    2. Sarah Jessica Parker Stash. Sexy. Inexpensive.
    3. Yes. January 12, 2018 at 10:12pm

  • Laura: 1. I’m in love with 10 Corso Como. It smells like dried rose petals on a pile of expensive exotic dried wood and it’s so heavenly and perfect.

    2. I blind bought You or Someone Like You by ELdO when Sephora had them on sale around the new year. It smells like drinking a Saint Germain cocktail in an herb garden, fizzy and effervescent and minty with a little bit of dirt. I picked it today because the weather in my area just took a turn for the freezing and I wanted to just be in a garden instead.

    3. Please do! January 12, 2018 at 10:15pm

  • Gina: What perfume are you wearing today and why did you pick it? I was wearing Oud Saphir. I just grabbed a sample out of my bag to wear on the plane.
May I contact you via email to notify you of your win? Yes

I like Raghba Wood Intense! January 12, 2018 at 10:35pm

  • Eszter Molnar: Oh yes please enter me into the draw!

For smoother woods I recommend Miller et Bertaux ,In – Its completely underrated – soft cedar with amber, ginger, musks and kumbaru (which is another wood). I’ve never smelled anything like it and I bought it not very long after initial testing. Has brief citrus opening before the most magical drydown. January 12, 2018 at 10:44pm

  • Sam: 1) Tam Dao by Diptyque is a pretty nice woody scent, I have not gotten a bottle yet though!

    2) I am wearing Escale a Parati by Dior. It’s been pretty warm for the past few days over here so I decided to wear a fresher scent

    3) Yes please! And thanks for the generous offer. January 12, 2018 at 11:30pm

  • flowergirlbee!: you may certainly email me : ) i really love this perfume.
i really like (untitled) by maison martin margiela and i don’t find it sharp but i love timbuktu.
i am wearing mimosa pour moi by l’artisan today. i really felt tired and it is all rainy and warm because it is summer in australia and it is soothing me whilst uplifting me. January 13, 2018 at 12:29am

  • vika: I am wearing Jubilation 25 today because this is the only one I have. I could recommend this perfume because it has vetiver.

Yes you could contact me via e-mail.

Thank you very much! I am living in the Netherlands. January 13, 2018 at 3:56am

  • yumeyorimo: Thank you, JC and Victoria. For a beautiful, soft woody fragrance I suggest the original Féminité du Bois by Serge Lutens for Shiseido, if you can track some down.

I am pregnant so am not wearing any fragrance today.

Please do email me if my name is drawn. January 13, 2018 at 8:13am

  • Karina: my favorite woody perfume is Encre Noire by Lalique. Albeit labeled masculine, it’s always appreared perfectly unsex to me – a deeply satisfying velvety vetiver.
I am wearing “tea for two” today.
Thank you for the lovely giveaway, you can contact me via email. I live in Germany. January 13, 2018 at 9:03am

  • Mridula: I’m wearing Phylosikos. I think Tam Dao is woody and not sharp at all. Yes, you can contact me by email.

And thank you to you and JC January 13, 2018 at 9:06am

  • Aurora: Do not enter me in this generous giveaway as I have a large bottle of Timbuktu which will last me a lifetime, it certainly is a scent which makes a statement and understand it can be perceived as sharp.

JC, I was thinking of Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds for you, it is an all year round perfume for me and couldn’t offend anyone I think. January 13, 2018 at 10:15am

  • Michele Eskinsn: Bruno Fazzolari Ummagumma! January 13, 2018 at 2:09pm

  • Dagny B.: I´ve always loved vintage Samsara as an extremely well balanced sandalwood and Bois Noir for a lighter and softer version of Chanel Egoiste. They´re both unisex in my opinion and smell great at this time of the season.
Dior Homme Intense has a wonderful cedarwood note that pairs beautifully with the Iris and balances out the sweetness together with the vetiver.
Today I´m wearing Femme de Rochas.
    Have a nice weekend!
(You can contact me via e-mail) January 13, 2018 at 3:47pm

  • spe: When thinking of woodsy perfumes, I would recommend sampling Sonoma Scent Studio. I read that Winter Woods is close to Deneuve perfume so would probably begin there.

Today I’m wearing Apree l’Ondee edt.

Please do not enter me into the drawing as I’m blessed with a decent sized collection and would like others to enjoy your gracious gift. January 13, 2018 at 4:14pm

  • Amber: As for a woody fragrance, how about Olfactive Studio Flash Back eau de parfum?

I’m wearing Agent Provocateur fragrance today, it smells like their store in London and make me think of traveling even though I’m in Michigan.

Yes you can contact me via email, of course! Please do! 🙂 January 14, 2018 at 12:45am

  • JennaO: I would recommend Dolce & Gabbana Light blue. I had a lovely perfume from Lacoste which was so soft but they dont sell it anymore, so sad!

Today I am wearing Lancomes Hypnose which is one of my favorite scents. It reminds me of my first date with my husband!

Feel free to contact me via email 🙂 January 14, 2018 at 5:07am

    • JennaO: I am so sorry, I just woke up 😀 Light blue isnt woody 😀 I would recommend you to try Afnan perfumes´Gold Wood! January 14, 2018 at 5:09am

  • penny: 1, comme de garcons Wonderwood or Creeds Aventus its a bit fruity as well but I don,t think its sharp,
    2,Narciso Rodriguez for her(addictive)
3 yes , that would be great , belated happy new year to all! January 14, 2018 at 9:09am

  • Inga: Hermes Voyage has a nice woody note, without sharpness.
No perfume today, because I have a cold.
You can contact me via email. Thank you for a great giveaway, JC! I’m in the Netherlands. January 14, 2018 at 9:29am

  • Eric Brandon: Wow, thank you JC! I prefer Dzongkha to Timbuktu but Dzongkha is more about iris than wood. For something woody… I actually can’t think of anything woodly in my collection! I’m sure I’m just not thinking hard enough.

I’m in Iris Ukiyoe today. I know it didn’t get a lot of love from critics, but I find it very affecting. It’s quiet too, and since I’m going to a charity brunch, it seems perfect.

And Victoria, you may absolutely email me. January 14, 2018 at 10:13am

  • Eudora: Hello JC, Victoria and perfume lovers,
Not very familiar with woods to be honest but I see someone recommends Comme des Garcons. Last year I tried some of their fragances and I like them all. And I remember wood there. I brought home Avignon because that was a perfume I was looking for my whole life. Thanks V!
I recommend Caron Pour un homme, no edges but maybe does not qualifies as wood.
Today I am wearing Maroussia, cheap and rich
Yes, you can contact me. January 14, 2018 at 11:05am

  • Ingeborg: I would recimmend CdG Monocle One Scent Hinoki. Or Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds for something cool but soft, very office friendly.

I’m wearing Ambre des Meeveilles because it seems light, yet warm. It is snowing and real winter weather!

Yes, you may contact me. January 14, 2018 at 11:15am

  • Bee: So many interesting suggestions, I’m adding “sacred wood” ( by kilian) to the list. I’m wearing Russian tea (masque) January 14, 2018 at 12:38pm

  • Stephan: 1. Woody Mood by Olfactive Studio: fresh wood with chocolaty nuances (Bertrand Duchaufour’s first collaboration with this niche brand, 2017).

    2. I’m wearing Ajar by Jardin d’Ecrivains. It makes me feel fresh and mysterious.

    3. Yes, you may contact me. Thank you for the generous offer! January 14, 2018 at 1:46pm

  • Sherry: Thanks for the generous offer.

    1. Terre d’Hermes. I don’t own many woody perfumes as I find many induce headaches. This is one of the few doesn’t and feels light and airy
    2. Kilian good girl gone bad, as I am craving something osmanthus
    3. Yes please! January 14, 2018 at 2:10pm

  • Guro: I’d recommend Tokusen, the powdered perfume. On me at least the wood is quite evidend, but very soft. I’m wearing it today, really perfect on a snowy Norwegian sunday. I purchased it after reading about it here on the blog. One of many great discoveries. Cannot praise the blog enough! You may of course contact me if I’m the lucky winner. January 14, 2018 at 2:44pm

  • Mer: 1. Another vote for Lutens Fille en aguilles, and I’ll also add BPAL’s Crowley
    2. Goutal Un matin d’orage :))
    3. Of course! January 14, 2018 at 4:06pm

  • Notturno7: Hi JC and Victoria, 😊
Thank you for the generous offer.
Yes, I’d just be more then delighted to be contacted by email.
I’d love to have a bottle of Timbuktu.
    What a treat!
JC, I’d be happy to make you samples of my woody fragrances. I also have a nice size Tom Ford Bois d’Ensenc (wood and incense ) that you might like and I can send you that cause I have couple of these samples.😊
I’d also recommend Cedre by Lutens. It’s lovely.
I don’t know what I’ll put on today but yesterday I wore Nuit de Noel extract and later in the day Cabochard and Miss Dior cause I had a hard work day and I needed something ‘green’ and tough like Cabochard to carry me through. January 14, 2018 at 4:12pm

  • Morelle: I would love to own a bottle of Timbuktu! Thank you for the generous offer.
    1) I would recommend Bois Blonds by Atelier Cologne; it’s very soft and inoffensive, but by no means bland.
    2) Today I’m wearing Asja by Fendi. Mainly because it’s cold outside and it’s a very warming scent, like sitting by the fireside.
    3) Yes, you may contact me by email. January 14, 2018 at 5:33pm

  • Cath: I recommend Sandalwood Sacré by Le Jardin Retrouvé. It’s clean but at the same time warm if that makes sense. A classic vibe with a very modern wearability.

My sotd was Cuir Cannage by Dior for a day out with friends.

And yes you can contact me 🙂 January 14, 2018 at 9:05pm

  • Julie: For sandalwood, I recommend Bois des Iles. It’s somehow fuzzy yet sparkling at the same time. For pine, try Serge’s Fille en Anguilles. It does have a bit of fruit, but it didn’t go overly sweet on me. Cedar and I don’t get along, so I don’t have any recommendations there.

Today I wore Dame Mate Heliotrope and Patchouli. I chose it because the sweater I wore still smelled of Jovan White Musk from the last wear, and I thought they’d mix well together. And they did!

Yes, you may email me. Thank you! January 14, 2018 at 11:37pm

  • Lydia: 1. I think Stash by SJP is wonderful! The cedarwood sings!
    2. I am wearing encre noir today as it is a rainy day and the inky vetiver works well in this weather
    3. Sure! January 15, 2018 at 11:25am

  • Carla: Thank you! Maybe Santal Majuscule or one of the Bois series by Lutens, particularly Bois Oriental. I am wearing Bulgari Black today, it has been just right for me these past few weeks. It’s more leather than woods, but it is nice and soft, you may want to try it. Yes you can contact me via email. January 15, 2018 at 1:08pm

  • Georgiana Enache: 1. Un jardin sur le Nil by Hermes
    2. As per 1. I wear it because it gives me a sense of nature and freshness.
    3. Please feel free to contact me by email. January 15, 2018 at 1:14pm

  • Carla: I’d like to add I just finished the recent novel Paris in the Present Tense. I always get annoyed with Helprin while reading him for some reason but then when the novel is finished it’s such a satisfaction and you realize his brilliance in his seemingly simple plots.
