By Kilian Discovery Set Giveaway

Today we have a generous giveaway thanks to Stephen, one of the Bois de Jasmin readers. Stephen has a set of by Kilian samples that he tried and no longer wants and he would prefer to sent it to someone else. The set comes in a velvet black pouch and it includes 10 x 0.05 oz/ 1.5 ml samples: Love, Liaisons Dangereuses, Forbidden Games, Straight Heaven, Back To Black, Playing With Devil, Voulez-Vous Coucher Avez Moi, Moonlight In Heaven, Intoxicated, and Black Phantom. According to Stephen the samples are mostly full, only Straight to Heaven, his favorite, is half-full. Stephen is in Germany but he can send his package anywhere, provided the customs restrictions don’t interfere.

We are not responsible for custom duties, leaks or damage during transit or for lost packages.

To participate, please answer these questions. I will randomly draw one winner.

1. Stephen would like to know your recommendation for a fragrance suitable for someone who likes lavender, green notes, woods, ambers, moss. He doesn’t like sports colognes, Cool Water or too much citrus.
2. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win and share your email with Stephen?

The contest is closed. The winner is Jennifer Z. Congratulations! I will contact you via email.

    1. My recommendations would be L’Art de la Guerre by Jovoy and Hermessence Brin de Reglisse.

Thank you both again so much! May 23, 2018 at 9:24am Reply

  • Maria: Hi Stephen, your question make me think of Eau de celeri from Monsillage. It is a very green jasmine and vetyver, woodsy but fresh. It is available only online. I also love the lavender touch on Guerlain Eau de cologne du coq, it is not really mossy, but it’s a bit animalic, a light but complex cologne. Perle de mousse is also green and mossy, and I think it’s perfectly unisex.
Please don’t enter me on the contest. May 23, 2018 at 9:31am Reply

  • Carlisle: Stephen, have you tried Azzaro pour homme? Its notes include lavender, anise, basil, oak moss and musk.

Please do not enter me in the contest. May 23, 2018 at 9:58am Reply

  • Joeri Buhrer Tavanier: This is so kind of you!

I would recommend two green fragrances: Mito by Vero Perfume and Tindrer by Baruti.
Also, try Italian Cypress by Tom Ford!

You can both contact me by email. May 23, 2018 at 10:02am Reply

  • Ann: thanks for the generous offer. yes, you can contact me.

Maybe Stephen would be interested in trying an attar from Sugandhco, based in Lucknow, India. They will ship attars worldwide, but can’t ship perfumes to the US, not sure about Germany.

    Tilism (masculine attar, subcategory: Mossy)

“The fragrance opens with citrus and a green effect thanks to bergamot. The heart reveals Lavender and precious woods. The trail unveils a blend of frankincense and Cedar.” May 23, 2018 at 10:05am Reply

  • Andrea: Hello Stephen and Victoria,

    1. I don’t like lavender at all but I love Bucoliques de Provence by L’Artisan Parfumeur, although you can perceive the lavender clearly. To me the perfume is warm and soft and calming. Beautiful.
    2. Yes, you can contact me. May 23, 2018 at 10:25am Reply

  • Nora Szekely: Hi Victoria and perfume lovers,
Thanks to Stephen for this generous giveaway.
    1. I recommend Lavandula by Penhaligon’s and I second Caron Pour un Homme, both are great lavenders, Gris Clair by Serge Lutens and Guerlain Jicky are great too. Speaking of Serge , Ambre Sultan is teh amber lovers’ best friend.
L’Artisan Timbuktu is a dry woodsy, incensy scent worth sampling.
As for greens and moss, I love them too but nowadays it is rather difficult to find decent examples due to the restrictions. I recommend looking at vintage bottles from the 60s and 70s from trusted sources online.
Correct me if I’m wrong but recently I purchased several bottles from that era and recognized a recurring theme of greenness above all 🙂 I would also try scents advertised for women or unisex from the 1960s as they are not anymore considered as feminine to cause unease when worn by a man. I think of Diorella, no. 19 (even today’s versions) , Givency III.
Vol de Nuit of Guerlain is more fleeting nowadays but I love its green aspects and Mitsouko may steal your heart.
31 rue Cambon by Chanel is great pseudo-chypre and Bois des Iles is a warm woody scent though I only can vouch for the EDT versions of these. I wish you good luck with the hunt!

    2. Victoria, please do contact me, in case I win 😉 May 23, 2018 at 10:29am Reply

  • Guillaume Malingri de Bagnolo: 1. Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford
    2. Yes May 23, 2018 at 10:30am Reply

  • Wendy Elofson: Greetings Victoria and Stephen! Thank you for the kind offer, and yes, you may contact me.

L’Artisan Timbuktu is a beautiful woodsy frag that has lovely accompanying body products for layering
Ramon Monegal’s Agar Musk (His Cuirelle is a great leather too) is a beautiful oriental woodsy frag with great longevity
L’Artisan bucoliques is my favorite creamy, lavender, wrap myself in a chenille blanket scent. I absolutely adore a good spritz at bedtime or on a gloomy day.
Histoiries de Parfums has a lovely amber perfume, Amber 114. This line has many gorgeous scents that you may want to explore given your note preferences via their affordable sampling set for around $20. May 23, 2018 at 10:33am Reply

  • Susan: Thanks for the generous giveaway! I would love to try these. I think you might like Cartier Roadster and, yes, I agree on Azzaro Pour Homme. • Audrey: Thank you for the give away. It is very generous of you!

I would suggest trying, Music for a while, a new Fredric Malle scent.

  • Cath: What a generous giveaway. By Kilian is not available in my country and would love to try them if possible.
For the first question, I’m afraid I don’t have good ideas. My husband wore Gris Clair by Serge Lutens for several years, it’s a smoky lavender that still manages to stay crisp and I love it on a man.
Question 2, yes you can contact me. May 23, 2018 at 11:13am Reply

  • Mridula: Hello Victoria and Stephen. Tom Ford’a Private Blend Lavender Palm might be one to try. I’ve never been drawn to lavender and only have my dept store sniffing experience to go by. (We now have a Sephora in Delhi with the full Tom Ford display.) However I see Victoria has given it 4 stars here. I have not seen By Killian in Delhi and would love to win this giveaway. Yes, please contact me by email. May 23, 2018 at 11:23am Reply

  • Karla Correia: Thank you for the wonderful giveaway! Here are my recommendations:

Dolce Gabbana Pour Homme, if you’re considering a sweeter/woodsier approach.

Caldey Abbey Lavender, for a “study” through different facets of lavender.

Ipanema, by L’Eau de Riô (brazilian brand), for a young, refreshing, afternoon-by-the-beach side of lavender.

And Encens et Lavande, by Serge Lutens. Absolutely beautiful!

  • Tora: Thank You, Stephen, for this sweet giveaway!! My two favorite lavender fragrances are Annees Folles by La Parfumerie Moderne, and Amouage Ciel pour Homme. The first one is a bit sweet and the second is aromatic and spicy. May 23, 2018 at 12:05pm Reply

  • Catherine: Thanks for the generous giveaway! Suggestions for a green-mossy fragrance, you might want to try the original version of Quartz by Molinard. No lavender note, but a nice, green but not bitter fragrance.
Yes, you can certainly contact me by email. May 23, 2018 at 12:10pm Reply

  • Maria: And, why not good old Chanel 19EDT? It is an iris, but it is also green, mossy and woodsy (there’s vetyver on it). And it is really great on men, despite being offered as a feminine perfume. May 23, 2018 at 12:51pm Reply

  • Ana: Hello Stephen ans Victoria, thank you very much for this amazing giveaway!
I would recomend you Serge Lutens ‘Gris Clair’, I think it could match in your descripcion of this lavender fragance with theese other shades.
And, of course, you can contact me by e-mail May 23, 2018 at 12:53pm Reply

  • Gina: Thanks, Stephen! How generous. One of my faves with lavender and heather is a vintage that sometimes can be found on eBay by Brian Vincent Fragrances in Ireland called Fraoch. Another vintage is Colton My Islands Barbados. Still can find on eBay too. or Etsy. Another vintage is Dorothy Gray Dee Gee or DG. Gianfranco Ferre GFF pour Uomo is a modern one. Another modern is Rania J Lavande 44. Serge Lutens Gris Clair.

How about Atkinsons Lavender on the Rocks?
I don’t personally know the fragrance but it seems to have the notes that you would like.
    Yes, you may contact me.
Good luck on your hunt! May 23, 2018 at 1:42pm Reply

  • Undina: Do not enter me into the giveaway.

My three absolutely favorite lavender perfumes are Krigler Lieber Gustav 14, vero profumo Kiki (EdP) and Parfums De Marly Darley. They all are unisex (maybe even leaning masculine a tad). May 23, 2018 at 1:51pm Reply

  • Daniel Jeter: Please enter me. My recommendation is Jean Patou’s Ma Liberte. It’s a gender-fluid blend that while it’s aimed at women, it struts very close to the masculine. It features some lovely caressing lavender and white floral notes. It’s radiant and solar, like they’ve been viewed through a prism of light. Although Moss isn’t listed, it’s structure gives a nebulous, gauzy impression.
    * officially discontinued, but available on discounter websites and eBay. May 23, 2018 at 1:59pm Reply

  • billie: Eau D’Hermes by Hermes. May 23, 2018 at 2:21pm Reply

  • madtowngirl: Ooh, a giveaway! Thank you for the chance.

  • Neva: What a great giveaway. I haven’t explored the By Kilian range so far. Thanks Stephen and Victoria!
    1. I know this one is hard to find but Givenchy Xeryus was one of the fresh spicy fragrances from the eighties with a good portion of oakmoss. Another one I like very much is more woody and spicy – Armani Eau d’Aromes
    2. Yes, please contact me via email in case I win the giveaway. May 23, 2018 at 3:59pm Reply

  • Tam: Thanks for your generous giveaway! I have really e enjoyed Estee Lauder for Men. This event isn’t citrus, but more a fougere that has a mossy and inviting balsamic, amber mood with an herbal aura.I love it and have given it for gift. Yes, you may me contact by email. • Severine: Favorite lavender: Serge Lutens Encens et Lavande
Favorite Amber: Maison Francis Kurkdijian Grand Soir
Favorite combination of green (vetiver) and cedarwood: Sarah Jessica Parker Stash
During daytime, I love Serge Lutens La Myrrhe on a man. In the evening, Yves Saint Laurent 6 saint Sulpice would drive me wild. It is an oud, and what an oud it is. Creamy, velvet, and fresh. I don’t know how old Stephen is – I have many other recommendations. I do shop for fragrance for all the men in the family! 😉
Yes, you can contact me. May 23, 2018 at 8:55pm Reply

  • Rox: How kind of Stephen. When I’m finished sampling and know a fragrance is not for me, I put my samples up for ‘adoption’. I don’t like to see them go to waste. Don’t enter me in the drawing, I’m not a fan of By Kilian. I have a suggestion for Stephen, Gris Clair by Serge Lutens. May 24, 2018 at 1:08am Reply

  • Cristina: 1. Gris clair is a warm sobering note
Not too fresh but mysterious and unusual

Lavender: Maybe A Taste of Heaven by Kilian. and second Heritage by Guerlain.
    Green scents:
Cristalle (Chanel): Eau de Toilette (not edp)
Y (Yves saint Laurent)..dry, green chypre
Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss (sharp, dry)
    Untitled (maison Margielis)

A very refined amber is Sublime by Patou. May 24, 2018 at 4:16am Reply

      • Cornelia Blimber: Thinking of Lutens: you may love Fille en Aiguilles (woody), or Fourreau Noir (beautiful rich, dark lavender). May 24, 2018 at 12:51pm Reply

  • Elemi: 1)
I recommend Spigo by Odori, a modern take on Carons Pour Un Homme. It is less sweet and more transparent.
Somewhat colder and greener with mint in the top notes is Oxford & Cambridge by Czech & Speake.
I second the recommendations for SL Gris Clair, although I prefer it for the colder seasons.
2 .Yes you may contact me of I Win May 24, 2018 at 4:55am Reply

  • Austenfan: Gosh, I would love this set. Very generous of you, and thanks Victoria for hosting (once again).
    1. Nicolaï New York, just a top notch masculine, it’s a great pity she is no longer selling Nicolaï pour Homme as that was one of the best green lavenders ever. TDC Bois d’Iris for woods, Ninfeo Mio for a crisp, woodsy green fragrance. Do try first though as it is reasonably citrusy. But it’s a really great fragrance so you might still enjoy it.
    2. And of course you can contact me by email. May 24, 2018 at 4:57am Reply

  • Eszter Molnar: I think Rania J Lavande 44 is a stunning fragrance and the best lavender I’ve ever smelled. I think that would be well worth a sniff.

Please enter me in the draw! My email is fine to be contacted on 🙂 May 24, 2018 at 5:39am Reply

  • Awfulknitter: What a generous giveaway.

I’d recommend Stephen try two Hermes fragrances. Voyage d’Hermes for something fresh and green – I love its dry, sparkling start – as crisp as a gin and tonic! For amber, I love Ambre Narguile, it’s so plush and comforting, yet very elegant.

So many other good recommendations! Homme de Caron is a great green-lavender.

And of course, I am happy to be contacted. May 24, 2018 at 6:33am Reply

  • mj: Thanks for the giveaway, Stephen & Victoria!

I love the mix of lavender, iris and cacao of Dior Homme. Also, Hermes Brin de Reglisse is great, fresh but not citrusy at all. May 24, 2018 at 7:15am Reply

  • Jennifer Z: Thank you Stephen! I would love to win this set.
    1) Caron Pour Un Homme and Le Troisieme Homme. Chanel Pour Monsieur. Someone already recommended Dior Homme to you, but it’s good enough to be mentioned again. Good luck testing!
    2) Yes, you can contact me via email if I win. May 24, 2018 at 7:57am Reply

  • Edward: Thank you Stephen and Victoria. I would like to participate.

    1) I recommend L’Occitane Lavande Cologne. It is a simple, straightforward Lavander that I find very pleasing to my nose. It does not last long though so you might want to pair this with their hand cream version.
    2) Yes you may contact me via email. May 24, 2018 at 8:30am Reply

  • Maria: Dear Stephen,

    That’s exciting!
Boy Chanel is such a beautiful sexy lavender, I wear it myself and my husband, too. We can’t get enough of it, in the summer is gorgeous.

  • Patricia Mansfield-Devine: My recommendation would be Gris Clair, by Serge Lutens, which is a very dry, smoky lavender. Caron’s Pour Un Homme is a warmer lavender with vanilla – very wearable. May 24, 2018 at 9:48am Reply

  • AfonsoC: That is an incredible opportunity, thank you so much!
    1. Have you tried Jicky in the Parfum concentration? It’s a glorious creamy lavender. Although I don’t believe in gender in fragrances, I find it very “unisex”. For green, mosses, I recommend Esencia by Loewe, a beautiful “old-school” green perfume.
    2. Of course yes!

Thank you for the opportunity and good luck everyone! May 24, 2018 at 10:24am Reply

  • Nancy A.: Thanks for the giveaway across the miles…
Some of my suggestions that I favor:
    Diptique’s Vetyver
    Diptique’s Eau de Lierre
And as a lover of niche brands I happened to stop off at the House of Hermes recently to smell the Christine Nagel additions to Hermessecence Collection: Victoria recent review of Cedre Sambac is an elegant and not a garish Jasmine at all — more in the green family. • Klaas: Hey Stephen, I hope you got a chance to sample A Taste of Heaven from the Kylian collection. It is a gorgeous lavender perfume that gushes of the skin like a mistral wind! It eventually mellows down on a soft pillow of vanilla and tonka bean, without getting bland or too sweet. Brin de Reglisse (Hermes) is another great lavender, much more transparent, but its distinct licorice note is not for everyone.

I am sampling Corsica Furiosa from Parfum d’Empire today, and I really like it! It is amazingly green, with tomato leaf, cut grass, mint, a bit of citrus and a healthy dose of moss among its notes. It has lots of character and is great fun to wear, especially in the sunny weather we’re having in Amsterdam right now.

Please, do not enter me in the competition, I have more then enough samples as it is 😉 Schönen Tag! May 25, 2018 at 4:14am Reply

  • Lynne Petrie: Hi. I would like to take part and have the chance to win the perfumes.

It’s name? Alain… (dots included). Vraiment un parfum Beau Gosse. Alas it only exists in prototype and I have one of the very few bottles of it.
