  • Monica: The crisp air of early September mornings and the feeling of perfection at the end of the day, early evening, when you’re outside with a book, with a blanket on your feet. My backyard has a chestnut and the squirels throw them down every now and then. The dog chases the last mosquitoes away. Bliss.
My autumn scents are incense and wood ones. Kyoto from CdG, Tam Dao from Diptique, Mechant Loup from Artisan Parfumeur. Makes me think of the Canadian woods changing color.

  • Marcella Miller: This is a treat!
    1) Autumn has a bittersweet feel to it. Summer’s carefree days are gone and a long cold Canadian winter is not far off. I always hated having my children return to school. But, they are grown now and yet that feeling of loss still lingers.
I do enjoy, if not actually look forward to, vibrant, cloudless, deep blue skies contrasting with red, gold and orange maple leaves.
Excellent time of year for wandering through our forests! That remains a constant pleasure because…..
    2) the gorgeous autumnal scents of the forest. The cooler air accents and intensifies the delicious resinous scent of pines and balsams. Sweet and somehow pungent. The forest floor now humid and cool emanating odours of moist, loamy earth. The unmistakable scent of earthy mushrooms (stunning), leaves in various stages of decay, rotting and damp logs. All those deep rich humid odours are like catnip to me! So….
    3) of course you may contact me by e-mail should I be fortunate enough to win! August 31, 2018 at 11:03am

  • Ruth: Thank you for this fun offer!
    1) Fall is my favorite season – the leaves, woodsmoke, crisp but slightly damp air, long-cooking stews in the oven or soup on the stovetop, crisp apples, and school. I love school (and I teach, lucky me!).
    2) Aside from the scents of the environment, fragrances that are fall to me are all related to my school years (sadly they are not the same as they were). Norell, Rive Gauche, Mary Quant Havoc. And my young adult indulgence Must de Cartier.
    3) certainly you may contact me via e-mail. 🙂 August 31, 2018 at 11:49am

  • Genevieve Leger Fawcett: Hello, everyone! 1)I look forward to those crisp Autumn mornings when the dew is lit up from behind on spider webs and blades of grass. It almost feels as though time slows down a bit after the whirlwind of Summer. I also love the vibrant quality of Fall colours all around me in each and every plant. 2) The smell you get when you grab a handful of Fallen leaves and bring them close to your nose. And woodsmoke in the air. 3) Yes, you can contact me via email, and thank you for this fun giveaway! August 31, 2018 at 11:56am

  • Connie: Wow! THANK YOU! Lovely!
    1. Living in the south in Atlanta, its always so hot and humid, so I most look forward to cooler temps and lower humidity. Fall leaves are one of my favorite things to peek. Its my time of the year, since I am a Libra and the crisp fall look of the sky makes me think of these scents…
    2. Fallen Leaves on the forest floor, the deep smoky fragrance of cardamon in the pot simmering with cinnamon and anise, Creamy Hot Chocolate laced with Frankincense and Myrrh, Faint whispers of Pine , Aged Tomato Leaves that are ready to give up their burden of producing from summer. and lastly Fried Green tomatoes in the skillet from the last of the summer’s harvest

  • Laura: 1) Autumn is my favorite season. After summer’s wilting heat, I look forward to: wearing elegant clothes and makeup without worrying about sweating, dragging my feet through crisp golden leaves, LA VENDANGE and new wine, meeting again friends whose wanderlust made them disappear all summer. 2) I love the smells of autumn – leaves, nuts, smoke, young wine. As for fragrance, after longing for it several years, I finally bought Rose Barbare today to welcome the new sweason. It is the epitomy of autumn with rose, berries, honey and patchouli. I also love and miss Nu by YSL but can’t find it anymore, nor anything that comes even close. 3) You can certainly contact me via e-mail. August 31, 2018 at 12:14pm

  • John: Thanks for this lovely offer! It’s actually quite a pleasure just to address these questions…

    1. I always find the weather turning is valuable for shaking loose thoughts and habits, and so is a creative time for writing or painting. It is also a time when I go back to work (teaching), which results in nerves but also the stimulation of a fresh set of faces + aspirations. I love the colours, textures and smells of autumn (I have a theory we all love the time around our respective birthdays, and mine’s in early October): orange leaves, bonfire smoke, the first rains raising those grassy, dirty, peppery smells from the lawn + the lake, the last of the fruit in the orchard. The clothes also!

2.) Here, I’ll go with actual fragrances, since I’ve already mentioned scent in general: Habit Rouge (kind of a perennial, but anyway), Egoïste, Eau Sauvage Parfum, Yatagan… My favourite end of summer fragrance is actually the original Eau Sauvage EDT, as there is something a bit poignant in it.

    3. Yes, please do! August 31, 2018 at 12:26pm

  • MJ: Thanks so much for the draw!
    a) believe it or not, I look forward to cold weather and that goes with it: wearing the handknits I make, drinking spicy teas and enjoying my home where I knit more handknits.
    b) The smells that make think of autunm: a wool sweater; Barcelona after the rain; my kitchen preparing onion soup… and as I love spicy teas, my favorite perfume in autunm is Kenzo Jungle.
    c) yes, please do! August 31, 2018 at 1:19pm

  • Mela: 1. Of Love for Fall: The air of autumn holds the note of preparation for a long sleep. To me it feels like a still moment. The warmth and smell of chimney fires experimentally lit; the trees just beginning to show the innocent blush of red leaf that will soon leave them naked. From full warm fronds to cool spare braches. The first leafy crunch while flowers still bloom. For me Fall is a huge inbreath filled will my favorite smells, before the gentle outbreath quieting to the hibernation of winter.
    2. Of scents; any Merveilles; Amouage Atar, a treasure too strong for summer and too hidden for winter. My precious Theorema. Cool Dzing, Dzongkah, and dry Passage D’Enfar. The beautiful Timbuktu. All to sly for winter, but for fall, perfect; Light incense, like Armany Prive’ and Crystalle and Beige for the rains. Tolu because there are still flowers to be smelled, and wood and sun. A light tobacco and rose, one leaving the other approaching. Perfect for several Lutens. Sillage can wait for winter. Fall is the season for subtle things.

  • Aurora: How kind of you to make incense gifts for your friends and offer one to us. With many thanks, I’d like to paticipate and of course can be contacted via email.

Autumn makes me wistful, ‘le deuil de la nature’. Early fall has its pleasures: apples especially to make compote, there is an apple fair in my neighborhood , figs and grapes, the smell of wood smoke as I walk the streets, late roses. Perfume provides comfort, I will wear again Molto Missoni for its cinnamon, YR Folies de Saisons Delires d’Automne (a recent discovery) Caleche and Elixir des Merveilles. September 1, 2018 at 6:29am

I love the papery-honey smell that I think comes on the first few hot days after the main leaf fall – it seems to come from any type of leaves in a wide forest area. I don’t have a favorite fall fragrance, but Samsara just popped into my mind when asking myself the question. 3. You certainly may contact me by email :). September 1, 2018 at 8:06am

  • Jennifer: 1. What do you look forward to the most in autumn?
The return of rain–and clean air. The rain puts out our California wildfires and cleans the smoke haze from the air.
    2. What scents smell autumnal to you?
I grew up on a street lined with Sweetgum trees, the source of Styrax incense. In the fall, the maple-like leaves turn brilliant red and purple and then fall, coating the ground with color. Stepping on them releases very Autumnal fragrance, a sort of Osmanthus-tinged incense. I used to walk over drifts of these leaves on the way to and from school, and the scent … it is still my favorite scent on earth, bar none. Now that I’m an adult, when I see a Sweetgum tree dropping its fall leaves, I’ll collect them in a cloth bag and take them home, just for the fragrance. I’ll crush the drying leaves, and breathe in. Happiness.
    3. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win?
    Yes September 8, 2018 at 3:19pm

    • Jennifer: I should note–‘styrax’ from Sweetgum trees, also known as ‘storax,’ is distinct from benzoin, which comes from a different tree but is also sometimes known as ‘storax’ or ‘styrax.’ Both are incenses, but with distinctly different fragrances. September 8, 2018 at 3:34pm
