Auphorie Eau de Nyonya Perfume Giveaway

We have another great giveaway today thanks to Amber. She would like to give away a full bottle of Auphorie Eau de Nyonya.  Amber can send her package anywhere in the USA.

We are not responsible for custom duties, leaks or damage during transit or for lost packages.

To participate, please answer these questions. I will randomly draw one winner.

1. Amber would like to know if anyone can recommend a camphorous or herbal scent that is similar to Agonist’s Blue North/Nordic Noir. She says, “Mint and herbs are all right, so long as it doesn’t veer too green.”
2. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win and share your email with Amber?

The contest is now closed. The winner is Theresa. Congratulations! I will in touch with you and Amber shortly.

  • Tara C: My favourite herbal/mint/camphoraceous scents are Annick Goutal Nuit Étoilée edp, CdG Monocle Hinoki and Mugler Mystic Aromatic. You may contact me by email and share it with Amber. January 25, 2019 at 9:27am

    • Shaily Tyagi: Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
      James Heeley Esprit du Tiger
      Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle

  • Shaily Tyagi: Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
    James Heeley Esprit du Tiger
    Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle

    All 3 genius!! January 25, 2019 at 9:52am

  • Pamela Ecker: What an interesting combination. I will have to seek out a sample of blue north somewhere. Honestly I can’t think of anything else like that except the new tea’ noir by le labo which, despite its name has more herb and a bit of mint and fig. Not really green though. Another suggestion is creed Himalaya. This may be closer. It really in a unisex and you can fund odd sized bottles on discount fragrance sites. I always forget how much I love it. My information can be forworded to Amber. January 25, 2019 at 10:14am

  • Heidi Czerwiec: 1. I like Vero Kern’s Onda & maybe SL’s Borneo 1834
    2. Yes! January 25, 2019 at 10:18am

  • epapsiou: 1) I have not tried Agonist so can’t speak if what I am suggesting are similar. I did look at Blue North’s pyramid and based on that I would recommend:
    a) Gres Monsieur – A lovely aromatic camphourous fougere. A bit hard to find but eBay has a few.
    b) Lacoste Eau De Sport Vivifiante: I like it better than Gres. More herbal and better blended. The balance of mint and herbs is better here. Gres veers to minty sometimes. But again harder to find
If vintage and hard to find are a rabbit hole you are willing to go down to I can suggest a lot more.

    2) Yes. January 25, 2019 at 11:07am

  • Snowy owl: I love Auphorie and have many of their creations but not this one which I’ve wanted. I think Bois Lumiere by Anatole Lebreton or Guerlain herba Fresca might be good options and yes you can share my email. Thanks! January 25, 2019 at 11:14am

  • Ellen M.: I wish I could help you, but I really can’t think of any. I would love to participate in the draw however. You can contact me by email. January 25, 2019 at 11:18am

  • Donna Crafton Montgomery: Gres Monsieur January 25, 2019 at 11:24am

  • Robin Paul: 1) I suggest Messe de Minuit by Etro.
    2) Yes, of course January 25, 2019 at 11:53am

  • Fleurycat: I would be so thrilled to be included in this draw as I have very fond associations with Malay and other SE Asian scents, especially rice and pandanus! My recent discovery that pandanus was the mysterious flavor/fragrance which I had previously been unable to identify but was recognizable in many Thai dishes was a revelation and Eau De Nyonya sounds like it would be a fragrance that I could love.
I don’t have much experience with camphorous notes, though some versions of Guerlain‘s L‘Heure Bleue have a subtle medicinal/camphorous opening, and Parfum de Nicolai‘s Eau Chic is an interesting blend of mints, spices, geranium and chamomile. Though herbal, it does not veer green at all, in my opinion, however you might find it too light. Thanks again for the opportunity to participate, and good luck finding what you are seeking! January 25, 2019 at 12:48pm

  • Elizabeth: I do not know the Agonist you are referencing. The most camphorous fragrance I know of is Lutens Tubereuse Criminal. After it calms down though, it is all about white flowers. Sorry, not much help.
I love the smell of pandan leaves so yes, please may I enter? You may contact me. January 25, 2019 at 1:03pm

  • SnowyOwl: I apologize if this is a repeat, I don’t see mine listed yet. I love Auphorie as a house and have eight of their fragrances but not this one which I love and am glad they are keeping around. Q1. Possibly Bois Lumiere by Anatole Lebreten or Guerlain Herba Fresca? I’m going for herby minty w soft basenote ideas. Q2. Yes give my email. Thanks! January 25, 2019 at 1:13pm

  • Robert Herrmann: Sorry can’t think of any off the top of my head, but I would wholeheartedly second the CdG Hinoki! Yes of course you may contact me. thanks for this! January 25, 2019 at 1:21pm

  • KatieAnn: This is interesting. I’m not familiar with Nordic Noir, but I did look it up to see a description. One camphorous and herbal fragrance that comes to mind is Potpourri eau de cologne by Santa Maria Novella.
    Yes, you may contact me.
Thank you all. January 25, 2019 at 1:47pm

  • Ann: Really? I am so interested in the Eau de Nonya! You may contact me via email.

Okay, so my all time favorite winter, herb, camphorous beauty is actually cheap as chips–and regardless of whether I win the drawing I am happy to send on a sample if Amber has not tried this one: Yatagan by Caron

My other thought, for herbs and mint that are not green, but this one is not really camphorous, is You or Someone Like You. It is sort of the opposite of camphorous–a summer take on mint and herbs, by the pool. January 25, 2019 at 2:07pm

  • Monica: Thank you Amber and Victoria for the giveway!

    1. I would recommend Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca and  Annick Goutal Nuit Étoilée.
    2. You can contact me. January 25, 2019 at 2:41pm

  • natalya baranova: Like many others, I am not familiar with the Agonist scent, but the request for herbal, mint but not green made me think of Dyptique Virgilio. It reminds me more of dried herbs, rather than green, plus on my skin, it smells like it has mint component, though a few people told me it was not the case for them.
As for my email, yes and yes January 25, 2019 at 6:42pm

  • Peggy: Apologies, I don’t know enough to recommend. But please include me in the draw, and yes, you may contact me. Thanks to Amber for her generosity! January 25, 2019 at 6:50pm

  • Sarah Hicks: I would also recommend Herba Fresca but perhaps too much green for what you are looking for. I have not tried Nordic Noir. Perhaps Cartier Decleration would hit some of the right notes and it is addictive to me.

Yes of course you may contact my by email.

    Thanks! January 25, 2019 at 7:46pm

  • Rachel: There’s no mint or camphor, but I wonder if L’Artisan’s Glacialis Terra might have the same chilly effect as the Agonist scent? It really is icy – quite remarkable!

Please feel free to use my email.

Many thanks, Amber and Victoria! January 25, 2019 at 9:20pm

  • Daniela Kostadinovska: I have not tried Blue North/Nordic Noir, but I would recommend Bottega Veneta Essence Aromatique. It’s a beautiful herbal fragrance.

Yes, you can contact me. Thank you! January 25, 2019 at 11:49pm

  • Katya Lilburn: What a great giveaway- thank you so much
My future in laws live in USA- hope it’s ok
    As I am in England
Most camphorous perfume I have ever tried is Tuberouse Criminalle
    And yes!
    Good luck! January 26, 2019 at 3:24am

  • Fleurycat: And…yes Victoria, I may be contacted by email and you may share my email with Amber. Thank you! January 26, 2019 at 4:30am

  • Valerie M: I was also thinking of Hinoki or something from Goutal. I would love to find a perfect, icy, camphorous scent!
Yes you may contact me by email, thank you so much for the chance! January 26, 2019 at 5:04am

  • Cynthia: Hi, I also am at a loss for a recommendation but will just throw this one out there: Aroma M Hinoki Vanilla. Perhaps not exactly what you’re asking for but a lovely soft vanilla with herbal and camphorous overtones. Thank you for the chance as I lived in Asia for a while and loved the Peranakan culture so Nyona is of great interest to me. You may contact me by email. Thanks for the generosity! January 26, 2019 at 10:06am

  • FearsMice: 1. My favorite herbal scent is Huitieme Art’s Aube Pashmina.
    2. Yes, please! January 26, 2019 at 10:23am

  • Qwendy: What a generous offer! Auphorie s such an interesting house. Nordic Noir sounds fascinating! I have a fondness for herbal scents and just really started to like camphor .. for an herbal metallic scent MIN NY Moon Dust is very interesting (but also a bit smoky), Amouage Bracken Man has an interreesting cool/warm herbal quality, and Mad & Len Afghani is deeply herbal.

Do share my contact info indeed. January 26, 2019 at 11:38am

  • Theresa: I’ve heard such good things about Auphorie that I would love to smell one of their fragrances – thanks for the opportunity!

I’ve been racking my brain for an herbal fragrance that is not too green, and would like to suggest the classic Aromatics Elixir, which I love, and which is unlike anything else I’ve smelled. Powerful, though, so be careful when spraying!

Yes, you may contact me by email if I should be so fortunate as to win. Thank you! January 26, 2019 at 1:04pm

  • Elke S.: Someone already mentioned Eau Chic by Parfums de Nicolai, which is minty but no camphor in my opinion – it’s more related to Herba Fresca and has a toothpaste vibe to me. Going in another direction, more herbal than mint, is Eau Mixte by Nicolai (reminds me a bit of Jardin sur le nil but less green and more bitter). Another option or at least a fun try might be a Bay Rum cologne? That’s more of a bandaid vibe, but would have that camphor element you’re looking for. I’ve only tried a couple of Auphorie scents but liked them both a lot, so thank you for the draw!
Yes to email, and I hope you find the scent you’re longing for, Amber! January 26, 2019 at 3:15pm

  • Pocketvenus: 1) I love the Yatagan suggestion! For a camphorous fragrance that imparts a panoramic, outdoor vibe, Lonestar Memories. Another herbaceous, outdoors scent that comes to mind is DS & Durga’s Pale Grey Mountain, Small Black Lake, but I am not sure if they make it anymore.

    2) Yes, thank you! January 26, 2019 at 5:02pm

  • David: I would recommend Potpourri by Santa Maria Novella.
Yes, you can contact me by email. January 26, 2019 at 5:40pm

  • Nelle: Serge lutens Fille En Aiguilles and Borneo 1834

Yes, you can contact me by email! January 26, 2019 at 9:44pm

  • Amber: Thank you everyone for all the recommendations! It sounds like Tuberose Criminelle is a best bet, although I have several Sheldrake creations and his signature is so pronounced that I’m not sure I could get passed it! Sometimes anonymity increases the desirability of a creation. But thank you all for the suggestions. January 27, 2019 at 3:32pm

  • Lydia: Hi Amber.
I haven’t smelled Blue North, but based on the description I read online and the notes list, I would actually suggest you try some BPAL (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab) scents if you can. It’s a bit of a longshot since they’re not conventional perfumes, but every year they do a large limited edition Yule collection and they include multiple scents with camphorous “snow” and “frost” notes. Some have also had vanilla, cardamon, wood notes, herbal notes, etc.

Past scents like Snow White, Ice Queen, Talvikuu might appeal to you and sometimes show up online in sample or used bottle form.
Currently they have Ded Moroz, Song of the Otherworld, Yule, etc. (Search for descriptions that include the words snow or frost). They might not be at all what you like, or they might really hit the spot.

Eau de Nyonya sounds a bit too gourmand for me right now so I’ll pass on the giveaway, but best of luck with your nordic hunt! January 27, 2019 at 5:11pm

  • Mandy: Kouros Eau d’Ete. January 28, 2019 at 12:44am

  • Eric H.: Wow, how wonderful!

    1. For camphor I love Elixir du Dr. Flair but that’s more dry spices and gin. Have you tried Geranium pour Monsieur? That’s herbal and very chic.
    2. Absolutely. 🙂 January 28, 2019 at 3:07am

  • Manasi Deshmukh: Hi Amber, I am not aware of Blue North, but the smell of camphor holds many memories and I am very familiar with it. Can’t think of any particular perfume to recommend but definitely sounds like an interesting note in perfume. Good luck with your search!

Yes, you can share my email. January 28, 2019 at 3:22am
