By Kilian Perfume Samples Giveaway

Today we have an extremely generous giveaway thanks to Jenn, one of the Bois de Jasmin readers. Jenn has won a set of by Kilian samples in one of our giveaways, and she wants to pass them onto someone else. Jenn, thank you, it’s very kind of you! The set comes in a velvet black pouch and it includes 10 x 0.05 oz/ 1.5 ml samples: Love, Liaisons Dangereuses, Forbidden Games, Straight Heaven, Back To Black, Playing With Devil, Voulez-Vous Coucher Avez Moi, Moonlight In Heaven, Intoxicated, and Black Phantom. Jenn says that the samples are 1/2-1/4 full, so you’ll have enough to try each perfume at least once. Jenn can send her package anywhere, provided the customs restrictions don’t interfere.

We are not responsible for custom duties, leaks or damage during transit or for lost packages.

To participate, please answer these questions. I will randomly draw one winner.

1. Jenn’s question for you: “please help me find an incense perfume that doesn’t smell too smoky. Something elegant and floral would be perfect.”
2. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win and share your email with Jenn?

The contest is now closed. Nadia, congratulations. I will contact you via email.

  • rosarita: Jenn, thanks for your generosity! Please remove me from the drawing though, I just dropped by to give a non smoky incense rec 🙂
Yves Saint Laurent Nu is a gorgeous floral incense blend that to me is a “cool” incense rather than a hot or burning one. The bottle is kind of love it or hate it; personally I love it because it’s unique. August 9, 2019 at 7:38am

  • JillS: Jenn, I can’t wear perfumes with too much frankincense or smoke. I recommend DSH Chataignes du Bois, which has some frankincense but is a gourmand chestnut perfume. I love wearing it. I also love Tam Dao by Diptyque, which is not an incense but sandalwood fragrance. Please include me in your very generous draw and you may use my email. Thanks and wishes, Jill August 9, 2019 at 8:30am

  • Erika Strychalski: If you can find it, this is a great jasmine incense to me. At least, it has the same feeling as an incense but is very floral. It was a special release that year. 2015 Diptyque Essences Insensees

Please contact me and share my email. August 9, 2019 at 9:17am

  • Sarah Hicks: I might try Encens Mythique by Guerlain. It is elegant and has rose and amber as well. Also Timbuktu of course. Also, yes you may contact me by email.

    Thanks! August 9, 2019 at 9:20am

    • Madaris: My favorite incense-inspired fragrance is Etro’s Messe de Minuit. It always brings back candles at Midnight Mass. My second choice is Tam Dao by Diptyque which is a bit more floral. You might like the hard-to-find Organza Indecence. It’s fine to use my email and thanks for including me in this! August 12, 2019 at 5:26pm

  • Cath: My favourite incense incense is Satori by Parfums Satori. It’s not floral though.
How about Città di Kyoto by Santa Maria Novella, gorgeous florentine irises with delicate Japanese incense.
I’d love to try the Kilian samples. Thank you for organising this giveaway.
And yes you may contact me 🙂 August 9, 2019 at 9:23am

  • Charlotte Barrow: Hi Jenn, I think you should try Passage d’Enfer by Olivia Giacobetti for L’Artisan Parfumeur. It’s light and has a beautiful contrast between floral (lily) and incense. A bit austere and casually elegant.

Jasmin Angélique by Atelier Cologne is also lovely: bright jasmine, musky angelica and a touch of incense. Definitely more fresh than smoky but quite a casual scent so might not be quite what you’re looking for.

Good luck with your search! August 9, 2019 at 9:27am

    • Nina: I’ll opt out of the contest but maybe Jenn can try Atelier Cologne’s Rose Anonyme?? It is floral and smoky and a strong incense note. I ended up passing it to a friend because on me, the rose notes die too quickly and I end up smelling as if I am worshipping my ancestors~ August 9, 2019 at 12:13pm

  • Cathy B.: Hi Jenn, I highly recommend Somoma Scent Studio Incense Pure. I dearly love SSS fragrances and have many of Laurie’s fragrances. There is now a new owner, but she is using the same formulas for the fragrances. I don’t believe they are available yet, but I would be glad to send you a sample of mine so that you could try it. Just email me! August 9, 2019 at 9:28am

  • Cathy B: Excuse me, Sonoma..🙄 August 9, 2019 at 9:30am

  • Guillaume Malingri de Bagnolo: 1. Musk Al Sheyukh by Oud Elite
    2. Yes August 9, 2019 at 9:36am

  • Patricia Maccaro: Perhaps this is worth a try:
Rose Incense Amouage, it’s an Oriental
Floral, with elemi as top note, rose as
middle and base notes are myrhh and
    olibanum. Hope you’ll like it.

  • Bastet: I would recommend Iris Nazarena. Also please email me if I win the draw. August 9, 2019 at 9:50am

  • Matty: I’m interested in the answers to the Incense question. I don’t need to be included in the draw, but thank you for your generous offer X August 9, 2019 at 10:30am

  • Audrey Esko: Thank you for the chance to win this gift! My favorite incense perfume is Andy Tauer Incense Rose. Thank you again! August 9, 2019 at 10:53am

  • Deanna: Thank you for your generous offer!
I suggest Parfums de Nicolai, Sacrebleu Intense.
    Incense and floral.
Please email me if necessary! August 9, 2019 at 11:35am

  • Anne-Marie Salli: Have you ever tryed Agonist parfums Dark Saphir? There is rose, incence and many more but it is not too smokey. Very well blended and balanced scent. It is very long lasting. August 9, 2019 at 11:45am

  • Anne-Marie Salli: Have you ever tryed Agonist parfums Dark Saphir? There is rose, incence and many more but it is not too smokey. Very well blended and balanced scent. It is very long lasting.
And it is very elegant scent (imo ).
Dark Saphir integries list is breath taking, but so well blended. I myself don, t like too smokey incence scent but Dark Sapfir is 😍. August 9, 2019 at 11:52am

  • Nadia: I like L’Artisan Passage d’Enfer. It feels warm and pleasant, not to heavy.
Please contact me via email! August 9, 2019 at 11:56am

  • Lydia: A hectic, exhausting summer has kept me from posting lately, but I can’t resist this give away. I just discovered By Kilian scents and I’ve been searching for samples like those listed.

Tauer Incense Rose is nice. It smells a bit more like tea than incense to me, but that could make it a good hot weather scent.

Kismet by Lubin (rose, opponax, labdanum, patchouli, and vanilla) and Rubis Rose by DSH (rose, rasberry, ambergris, frankincense, myrrh, guaiacwood) are nice, sweet, spicy, woody roses with a light incense aura.

Vanille d’Iris by Ormonde Jayne (orris, jasmine, osmanthus, vanilla, cedar wood, vetiver, amber, musk) smells like iris incense to me, although the drydown is eventually mostly floral (gorgeous if you love iris).

Two other unusual incense scents I recommend trying (although definitely in sample form because they might be too smoky for you) are Mecca Balsam (Indian tuberose, tobacco, rose, benzoin, agarwood, incense, labdanum, tonka bean) and Hindu Kush (spice, woody notes, incense, ginger, caraway, nutmeg, pepper) by Abdes Salaam Attar (La Via del Profumo). They’re 100% natural scents and quite rich and wonderful.

Please do email me if I win.

I’d love to hear if you find any new incense favorites among the recommendations! August 9, 2019 at 12:41pm

    • Lydia: PS Eau Lente by Diptyque is my all-time favorite incense perfume. I read that the reformulation still carries the DNA of the original, so it’s well worth trying. Diptyque shops still carry it. It was a truly elegant, beautiful opoponax-cedar-cinnamon fragrance that smelled exactly like a Shoyeido brand Japanese incense. August 9, 2019 at 1:01pm

    • Lydia: I just remembered another favorite – Encens Mythique d’Orient by Guerlain. Incense and rose, heavy on the incense. So, so beautiful. (I recommend the tall, clear bottle with gold decoration version over the opaque black cylinder bottle version.) August 11, 2019 at 2:03pm

  • Ellen: Passage d’Enfer is incense done “light” for me and I wear a lot of incense based perfume. Feel free to email me. Good luck in finding the right fragrance foryou. August 9, 2019 at 1:01pm

  • Amalia: You can try Armani Privé Bois d’Encens, it is a very attractive incense scent, dark and I don’t find it smoky. Of course, if necessary you can email me. Have a wonderful late summer. August 9, 2019 at 1:18pm

  • JH: Not really floral but I find it really elegant: Nicolaï’s Vanille Tonka. A really lovely vanilla tonka incense, not heavy smoky at all.
Yes you can contact me! August 9, 2019 at 1:18pm

  • Robert Herrmann: Wow, how generous. I am not an incense fan so I tend to be really hypercritical about ‘fumes with an incense vibe. However, I LOVE Amouage Lyric Man where the incense takes a backseat to the rose (as opposed to Lyric Woman which is the opposite, and too smoky for me.) Yes, email away! August 9, 2019 at 2:14pm

  • Martha: I love Avignon by Commes Des Garcons.
Even as a former Catholic schoolgirl!

Thank you, please do email. August 9, 2019 at 2:30pm

  • kate: i love incense perfumes. these are a few that i’ve come across that seem less smoky to me.

amouage interlude. this is a softer/floral incense. i can wear it in both warmer and cooler weather as it doesn’t feel quite as heavy as some incense perfumes.

bois d’armenie by guerlain is another love. it’s a warmer, more enveloping incense, better for cooler weather but soft and cozy.

cuir velours by naomi goodsir is a suedey incense with labdanum that is just gorgeous.

of course it’s fine to email! August 9, 2019 at 2:39pm

  • Perfumelover67: Thank you Jenn and Victoria for such a generous giveaway.
    1. I would recommend Etro Shaal Nur and Yves Rocher Accord Chic Secret de Essences.
    2. You can contact me via email. August 9, 2019 at 2:52pm

  • Sebastian: Such a generous idea, thank you!

I wonder why no one has mentioned L’Heure Bleue (Guerlain) so far. Floral powdery incense, classic elegance. Very last century.

And yes, you may contact me by email. August 9, 2019 at 4:52pm

  • Neva: Hi and thanks for the generous giveaway.
My favourite incense perfume is Amouage Epic Woman and I really recommend you try it. It’s not smokey at all.
Yes, of course you can contact me by email. August 9, 2019 at 7:12pm

  • Maggiecat: What a generous gjveaway, thank you! I think Amouage Lyric Woman is more rose than incense, but as you can see above, your mileage may vary. I also find Lady Vengeance by Juliette Has A Gun to be incense-y even though it’s not a listed note. Worth a try, anyway, as its readily available.
Yes you may contact me. August 9, 2019 at 7:48pm

  • Robert: 1. Bibliothèque by Byredo
    2. Yes
Thanks for the offer! August 9, 2019 at 8:13pm

  • Amanda Moulton: What a lovely and generous offer Jenn, thank you! For me, I cannot pass on L’Heure Bleue by Guerlain. Beautiful and timeless classic!
Yes, I can be contacted by email. August 9, 2019 at 8:30pm

  • Fazal: Jenn, thanks for your generosity. Don’t enter me in the draw as I have already tried about half of these. One incense fragrance that comes to mind is Maria Candida Gentile Sideris. I understand what you mean by not being too smoky as some incense perfumes smell straight up like church proceedings. Sideris is clearly incense but sweetened so as to smooth out the rough edges. August 9, 2019 at 9:40pm

  • Annie Warner: I’m brand new on here and not sure yet what’s what, but if Shalimar counts in the incense category then I nominate Shalimar. Guerlain of course. And yes to email contact. August 9, 2019 at 9:49pm

  • Aniko: If you want a strong, lasting and linear incense I would recommend Full Incense by Montale. I love it and it hits my memory spot for old-fashioned Catholic church incense which is where I learned to love incense as a child.
Perfect for winter although, like with all my favorites, I may put a drop of it on when I get a craving for it.
I hope you find something that suits you well.

Yes, you may contact me, and thank you for the opportunity. August 10, 2019 at 7:18am

    • Aniko: I have been rereading the article itself and the comments and it occurs to me that we have a very wide variety of incense scents as well as ideas about and tastes in scents.
It is funny because I just thought that when I think of incense I think of something warm (think of those ice-cold winter church pews), aromatic (very pleasing) and comforting, smooth, even elegant and smoke is not the first word I associate with incense even though that is how we use it.
So, Jenn, I wish you a very pleasant search for your new favorite incense scent. 🙂 August 10, 2019 at 10:22am

  • Judith X: Love incense scents and reading people’s comments. I’d go with Avignon this time. Email works! Fingers crossed! August 10, 2019 at 7:48am

  • Rositsa Naskova: I would say Rose Infernale by Terry de Gunzburg, light rose opening and and goes into a light incense

contact me via e-mail , would be great to try something new as samples August 10, 2019 at 12:39pm

  • KJ: Hi Jen, Try Comme des Garcons Incense Kyoto! Happy hunting – this is an amazing list.

Contact via email is fine. August 10, 2019 at 7:42pm

  • Suzy: I love incense! How about Tauer Incense Rose or Le Labo Palo Santo 14. Please do email me if I win.
    Thank you. August 10, 2019 at 8:36pm

  • Mary: Jenn, I would like to try Memo Tiger’s Nest but it is not available in my city. Perhaps you would like that one! Thank you and, yes, you may use my email if I am
Lucky enough to win. August 10, 2019 at 11:34pm

  • Eudora: thanks Jenn and Victoria,
I hesitated about recommending Avignon because Jenn asks for not very smoky. But since it has been recommended maybe I am wrong and it fits! I love it.
    Yes, you can contact me!
thanks and let us now about your incense journey! August 11, 2019 at 8:33am

  • Dorothy Van Daele: Jenn’s question: “please help me find an incense perfume that doesn’t smell too smoky. Something elegant and floral would be perfect.”
Good incenses that aren’t too smoky and are certainly elegant:
    – Bois d’Encens by Armani Privé
    – Cardinal by James Heeley, clean and fresh (broke 100mL bottle yesterday and it’s still a beautiful scent dispersed throughout the house!)
    – Timbuktu, soft, mysterious
    – Kyoto by Comme des Garçons – woods

Yes, you can contact me. Hope you can find floral in there as well! August 11, 2019 at 11:59am

  • Genevieve: Hello, Jenn and thank you for this giveaway. I love Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady. Rose, Frankincense, Sandalwood. Mysterious and sophisticated. Yes: you can contact me via email. August 11, 2019 at 12:31pm

  • Lora Wooten: When I think of elegant with incense and floral I think of Marni. It is light but nice for summer!
Yes you may email me, and thank you for the giveaway! August 11, 2019 at 12:44pm

  • Marnie: How about Serge Lutens – La Veirge de Fer. It’s soft and floral jasmine, lily and then smooth sensuous incense.

Or Satori more wood and Japanese incense. August 11, 2019 at 1:50pm

  • Laura S: More difficult than it sounds. Plenty of Incense frags, but very few that have any floral aspect, in my opinion/experience. Thought it over for a couple of days and would recommend:
DSH Perfumes -Fumée d’Or. Don’t be put off by the description which includes “smoke”. It’s not smoky. Oriza L. Legrand – Relique D’Amour
Yes, if I’m the lucky winner, you can contact me via email August 11, 2019 at 5:19pm

  • rickyrebarco: Hello all, thanks so much for a chance at the giveaway. I recommend Liquid Night, a soft incense that is not smoky and very lovely. August 11, 2019 at 7:05pm

  • CristinaM: 1. L Air du desert marocain
Spices, incense, Pine needles.. so original
    2. Yes you can email me!
Thanks for the Kind offer August 12, 2019 at 3:31pm
