Jacomo Silences Perfume Giveaway to support a good cause

We have a generous giveaway made possible by Bois de Jasmin’s reader Rainboweyes. She would like to give away an almost full bottle of Jacomo Silences. It’s fresh, in good condition. She can send her package anywhere in Europe (sanitized and well-wrapped, of course).

In Rainboweye’s own words, “I would like to find a new home for Jacomo Silences; I think it should be perfect for this time of the year. The name of the perfume makes me think of the silence in our woods and our fields due to the dramatic decline in the insect and bird populations. So I had the spontaneous idea to ask for a small contribution to a nature conservation project instead.  Since the draw will be limited to European readers, I thought of Rewilding Europe – a nonprofit organization committed to restoring biodiversity in Europe by rewilding areas.”

I would like to thank our entire Bois de Jasmin community for your generosity and kindness, whether it means giveaways like this, advice or comments.

We are not responsible for leaks or damage during transit or for lost packages.

To participate, please answer these questions. I will randomly draw one winner.

1. What perfume are you wearing today and why did you decide to put it on?
2. If you are a winner, do you agree to make a donation of your choice to Rewilding Europe – a nonprofit organization committed to restoring biodiversity in Europe by rewilding areas?
3. May I contact you via email to notify you of your win and share your email with Rainboweyes?

Whether or not you’re participating in the giveaway, Rainboweyes would also love to hear about your experiences and ideas for creating a space for wildlife (insects and birds) in your garden.

The contest is now closed. The winner is Gentiana! Congratulations! I will contact you by email soon.

  • Laura: 1. Today I am wearing Damn Rebel Bitches by Sarah McCartney/4160 Tuesdays, because I needed some “vavavoom” this morning.
    2. Yes.
    3. Yes.
I do not have a garden at the moment. March 5, 2021 at 9:38am

  • Hamamelis: Hi Rainboweyes! I hope you are well!
I am not participating as I have Jacomo Silences in my collection. Just saying hi.
    1. I am wearing Mito Extrait because of Cookie Queen’s post over at a bottled Rose. Therapeutic for current stresses.
    2. I have donated to Rewilding Europe, and to many other ‘rewilding’ charities (e.g. 1 billion trees).
    3. I am blessed to have quite some space for wildlife. I have planted wildlife friendly plants and shrubs (pollinator friendly, shrubs with berries for birds), and I am as untidy as possible in the garden! We have an abundance of wildlife, squirrels, pine marten, fox, and many many birds, among them the Black Woodpacker which is a formidable creature. March 5, 2021 at 9:58am

    • Hamamelis: Woodpecker that is 😉 March 5, 2021 at 9:58am

  • Kiera: This is a lovely idea. Here are my responses:

    1. Guerlain Jicky (2020 extrait) because it delights and comforts me, which I’m needing right now.
    2. Yes
    3. I have a small back garden, very much a work in progress. We have feeders out for the birds but our plans for summer 2021 are to replace the lawn, plant wild flowers to attract bees and butterflies, and put up insect hotels, get troughs for growing herbs and veg, and a manual rotating composting bin. March 5, 2021 at 10:09am

  • Silke: 1. I wear ‘Cuir de Lancome’, because it is a warming perfume – it is snowing here at present…
    2. Of course I would donate. I am already a member of another ecologist organisation, too!
    3. Unfortunately I have no garden, but I have seen a special ‘insect-friendly’ flower-mix which I will plant in a pot on my balcony 🙂 March 5, 2021 at 12:32pm

    • Victoria: Silke, sorry for a delay in releasing your comment! Welcome to Bois de Jasmin! March 6, 2021 at 7:45am

  • Silvermoon: Rainboweyes, what a lovely idea and giveaway. I don’t know if the U.K. would qualify any longer? Very sad about Brexit. Anyway my answers are here:
    1. Divine Eau de Parfum (first time and it’s really elegant and beautiful).
    2. Yes.
    3. Yes.

More on birds in my garden in a moment. March 5, 2021 at 1:32pm

    • Silvermoon: We have a garden where we do much for birds. We have three different feeding options, and different types of food to please all our visitors. Dried worms, mixed seeds and fatballs with seeds in the winter. We take special care to set out food in the breeding season and love to see the little ones turn up with their parents. They initially just stand and screech next to the piles of food, waiting for their parents to pop it into their open beaks.

We see many birds, including great tits, long-tailed tits, blackbirds, sparrows, robins, wrens, dunnocks, wood pigeons, collared doves, goldfinches, chaffinch, and starlings (some 30 starlings come every morning for breakfast). We also have a cute field mouse and a hedgehog that run around in the evenings in the summer.

My daughter is almost done studying veterinary medicine, so lots of animal related and conservation interest in the family. She is especially fond of bees and bats. So, we try to have relevant flowering plants around. March 5, 2021 at 2:18pm

    • rainboweyes: I haven’t heard about any shipping restrictions for the UK so it will be definitely included, yes! March 6, 2021 at 4:37am

  • OnWingsofSaffron: 1) This morning: Musc Nomade by Goutal. This evening, just before watching the latest installment of „For all Mankind“ I wanted something more futuristic: so it was L’Eau Froide“ by Lutens.
    2) Yes, good for you to push us to do better. So, yes I will. And I should be inspired to do even if I don‘t win!
    3) Sure!
Unfortunately, I don‘t have a garden. Next to not haveing children a very big loss. But I do have a balcony where in two terracotta pots I have wonderful roses. Right now I have bound bird food into the rose bush and love watching the birds come. Robins are my favourite! Also there is a smaller pot with hyacinths blooming right now. So the first bumblebees are visiting which is thrilling! March 5, 2021 at 4:36pm

  • Lily2ff: Hi,

    1. Wearing Amuoage Beloved. I’m reacquainting myself with it; haven’t worn it in a while.

    2. Yes

    3. Yes

Thank you for this nice post. March 6, 2021 at 4:03am

  • Rosie Jeffery: 1) I’m wearing Seville a L’aube today, as the sun has come out, and this perfume reminds me of spring and better days to come.
    2) yes, definitely, this is a wonderful idea, which I would be more than happy to support.
    3) yes. March 6, 2021 at 4:50am

    • Rasha: 1. I am Wearing La vie est belle .
      2. Yes
      3. Yes
Thank you for this nice post. I love perfumes March 7, 2021 at 3:15am

  • Klaas: Thank you Rainboweyes for this generous giveaway and for this great cause! Silences is such a gorgeous fragrance, I remember it from way back when……. Tempting as it is, please do not included me in the draw as I have too much perfumes as it is.

Today, I am wearing the remains of some Kurkdjian Oudh Extrait that I tried yesterday. There’s enough left on the cuff of my sweater to see me though the day. It is a wonderful fragrance but hasn’t much more to offer then the EDP in my humble opinion, so no need to save up. Though it would be good investment; two spritzes are enough for a weekend of sillage!

Election day is coming up here in The Netherlands. I will be voting green and rainbow colored! March 6, 2021 at 3:11pm

    • OnWingsofSaffron: Dag Klaas, groetjes uit Keulen!
This seems to be a year of elections: our general elections in Germany are in September. I am hoping for two things: that (a) real change is coming and (b) that corona-frustrated voters don’t vote (far-) right.
Wouldn’t the green-green Silences be the right perfume for election day 🙂
      Doei, Saffraan-vleugeltjes March 7, 2021 at 2:28am

      • Klaas: Amen to that, OpVleugeltjesVanSaffraan! A lot of people are losing the plot here, with corona-fatigue and absurd conspiracies doing the rounds.

Not much chance for change in Holland though, we’re heading towards a fourth term for our prime minister (and his centre-right coalition) if we are to believe the polls….

Silences would be the perfect perfume for ANY day!!!

        Groetjes terug!! March 7, 2021 at 8:36am

  • Silvermoon: I just checked the Rewilding Europe website to read about their work. Very inspiring and interesting indeed. I had not heard about them before, so thanks for bringing our attention to it. Lynx, bears, bisons, vultures, and more in different countries across the continent. So more than happy to support whether I am offered the perfume or not. What a great idea to do the giveaway like this! March 6, 2021 at 4:06pm

  • arrowdk68: Thank you for the wonderful giveaway.
    1. Today I am wearing Bracken by Amouage. I am tired of winter and even though the weather has just turned colder again I craved something “green”.
    2. Yes, gladly, to the Southern Carpathian section.
    3. Yes, please.
My favorite “wild” memory from our garden is a hedgehog who liked the same chair I did. In summer evenings I usually go out before going to bed to take in a little sweet night air. This is exactly the time when hedgehogs go searching for food. You can hear their little feet pattering and their sniffing from even inside the house. On a few occasions this hedgehog found that its favorite spot was occupied by me, but met me enough times before to know that I was no danger. So it simply sat down underneath my/its chair for a good 10 minutes and kept on making those adorable sniffing sounds and then ambled off to catch some insects or such. March 6, 2021 at 6:39pm

  • Karina: Hello, what a lovely idea.
    1. I am not wearing any and have decided to give my ode an olfactory break. Perhaps I will wear something a bit meditative later, perhaps Iris Poudre.
    2. Yes, this sounds like a wonderful charity.
    3. Yes, you may. March 7, 2021 at 8:23am

  • Colleen Geary: Hi Happy Sunday

I am wearing Eau de Magnolia -pretty.

Yes I would donate to rewilding Europe.

Yes please contact me via email.

Wishing everyone a beautiful week filled with pretty scents! March 7, 2021 at 10:09am

  • Karen A: What a wonderful giveaway! Please do not include me, I am on the US but wanted to comment and express my gratitude.
1.Today, like the day before and day before that, I am wearing Nahema extrait. It’s discontinued but if this past year has taught me anything, it is to enjoy what I have.
2.My garden is quite large so we have lots of bird activity.
Again, many thanks to you and Victoria for facilitating this generous giveaway! March 7, 2021 at 6:30pm

  • Gentiana: Thank you for the generous giveaway ! Silences is one of my all-times top 5 perfumes… I am looking everywhere for backup bottles, as it is discontinued and a new Silences Sublime appeared instead… how I wish to win !
    1) Today I wear Bois d Iris form Van Cleef and Arpels, as I needed something warm and cuddly in the new wave of winter with cold, wind and snow that came since friday night.
    2) Yes.
    3) Yes, of course
My garden is visited by a great variety of birds. There are four main groups of birds gathering in four different areas of the garden. The sparrows have a nice sand bath under the swingchair close to the house, the magpies on and around the wallnut trees in the very back of the garden, the ringdoves and the titmouse on the apple and quince trees. There are many of them, everyday. Other birds come by, such as blackbirds, jays, field fares, robins and some very rare species that I saw for the first time since I moved…. these ones share the same areas with the doves and titmice. I use to feed them with small pieces of food remains, for each group in its area.
We don’t throw food remains to the garbage. Meat and bones go to our friends’ dogs, small cut meat remains go to the magpies under the wallnut trees, vegetables and bread go to the neighbors’ chicken. Vegetables I cut in small pieces and the breadcrumbs go to the doves and singing birds, behind the swingchair and on the trees branches. All the winter the trees were full of birds, and they seemed to be thankful, chirping and whistling and singing….
From spring till late autumn the garden is full of a huge variety of insects and nothing compares with the flourished trees full of buzzing bees and other small beings… March 8, 2021 at 7:06am

  • Muriel: What a nice idea!
1)Today, I decided to go for Comme des Garçons “Black”, which is probably the loudest perfume I have 😀 These past few months (actually already a year now) have been hard on me, because I’m a quiet person, and I’m always following the rules, listening more than talking, staying home because teleworking is the norm, etc. And I’m actually fed up with this! So today, I just wanted to be loud and went for “Black”! but in fact, I like silence more and since I live in Brussels, I actually love the quiet days, when the human-made noises are down and we can actually hear the birds, the wind, the rain…
    2) Of course!
    3) Yes, go for it!
Like I said, I’m living in Brussels and only have a tiny backyard +/-40 m², but we have a birdhouse where 2 families of great tit birds like to multiply and I have planted melliferous (and nice smelling) plants. March 9, 2021 at 3:08am

  • Giovanna: 1. Prada Infusion d’Iris – wanted to treat myself, reminds me of a very happy time. I am still looking for my signature perfume, and Silences has been suggested here as similar to Chanel 19, which I also love (but cannot be my forever signature perfume as it is connected to too specific memories)
    2. Yes
    3. Yes March 9, 2021 at 8:24am

  • CristinaM: Thank you Rainboweyes for such a generous initiative! I’ve heard about Silences but have never tested it, so I’d be very happy if I was drafted.

    1. Today I am wearing Guerlain Metallica from a decant, a rare and somewhat obscure beauty. It is a superpower of fluffy floweriness with a creamy drydown that is both comforting and energizing. I do not detect any specific note, but metal is definetely not one of them in my perception.

My nose detects new facets every time I wear it and I chose it today because it seemed like the perfect undercurrent for an otherwise heavy and boring Zoom WFH day.

    2. Yes, great idea, and thanks for communicating about a nonprofit that I did not know!

    3. Yes, of course.

We are in semi-lockdown in northern Italy and on my Sunday walk I saw a pheasant and a heron, which are new to the area. Always uplifting to be in the presence of beautiful wildlife.
    Good news! March 9, 2021 at 2:51pm
