  • Constancesuze: Hi Victoria and Bois de Jasmin readers!
This is a request from a friend but I’m drawing a blank- does anyone have suggestions for a masculine-leaning coconut fragrance? January 26, 2022 at 9:23am Reply

    • Zuzanna: Heeley Cocobello January 26, 2022 at 9:41am Reply

      • rickyrebarco: Agree. Cocobello is nice and works well for men and women. January 28, 2022 at 12:41am Reply

    • OnWingsofSaffron: Honoré de Pres, Love Coco might fit the bill? January 26, 2022 at 10:24am Reply

    • Karina: It’s maybe not directly coconut, but Pjilosykos does have that milky something that coconuts have too. Could be interesting if it doesn’t actually have to smell like a coconut. Otherwise also would second Cocobello. January 27, 2022 at 8:40am Reply

    • JulienFromDijon: Hi! “Oud & santal” from Cartier.
(sorry, it’s in the expensive exclusive line. 3,5ml generous sample are quite easy to fetch.)
On a broader scale, some sandalwood fragrances lean toward coconut to hide defaults. (Good sandalwood has become difficult to find). I usually dislike when coconut hides the view from the sandalwood, but in “Oud a santal” it was fine. You also have some of that in some Lutens. And I also love “Premier figuier”.

“Premier figuier” from L’artisan parfumeur is quite nice, from green leave, to milky fig sap with a hint of coconut, to creamy sandalwood. It works well on fabric. (I tend to prefer the EDT to the EDP version, in the L’AP range).

There is a coconut aldehyde. But my mind is blank for quoting an example, that is not downright shower gel. Maybe the later stage of “J’adore l’or” is worth trying (and easy to find). It’s oddly chocolaty, and remanent, with a hint of this kind of coconut. At that stage, gone are the rose and the jasmine, you’re wearing a gender neutral gourmand. February 7, 2022 at 5:48pm Reply

  • Debi Sen Gupta: I don’t know what I am looking for. Something different I guess. I don’t like chanel 19. That’s all I can say. And my budget is about 150 USD January 26, 2022 at 9:33am Reply

    • OnWingsofSaffron: How are we supposed to answer to this? It‘s a complete wild guess.
Okay, try something from Francesca Bianchi. Her perfumes are all excellent and somehow „different“. January 26, 2022 at 10:21am Reply

      • Debi Sen Gupta: I think wild guesses are good for me. I need a starting point. I will be able to find the end myself. Thanks a lot. January 26, 2022 at 1:08pm Reply

        • Megan: Hm. I also don’t care for Chanel 19 and don’t like to wear what everyone else is wearing. Chanel 19 is a “green” perfume, so maybe looking at other categories will set you in the right direction?

I like to look at the Artisan winners and finalists for the Art of Olfaction awards. They tend to be less mainstream. I suggest:
Bukhara by Gallivant – 2021 finalist (spicy)
Melodie l’Amour by Dusita – 2017 winner (white floral)
Bonsai by House of Matriarch – 2020 winner (aromatic)
Fleur Japanais – just one of my favorites (incense)

Good luck! January 26, 2022 at 9:11pm Reply

          • Debi: Thanks so much. I will check these out for sure. I think its an excellent idea to try out the artisan winners. January 26, 2022 at 10:49pm Reply

    • Gina P: Too broad. You need to at least at what kinds of smells you like! January 26, 2022 at 1:03pm Reply

    • Kat Hi Five: Maybe SJP Stash Unspoken. It is definitely different on my skin. It is a combination of sweet sophistication(rose) and downtown urban grittiness (ashtray). The price is right too. January 26, 2022 at 8:44pm Reply

      • Debi: That sounds interesting and I dont think I have enough in rose. Thanks for the suggestion January 26, 2022 at 10:45pm Reply

        • Kat Hi Five: It is different in a very good way. Enjoy! January 28, 2022 at 1:27pm Reply

          • Debi Sen Gupta: Thank you January 28, 2022 at 3:08pm Reply

    • Old Herbaceous: I suggest using some of your budget to buy some discovery sets. Given that it seems you’d like to keep any full bottle purchase under $150, a very reasonable budget limit ( and one I try to observe), you might consider buying a set or sets from L’Artisan Parfumeur, Etat Libre d’Orange, Juliette Has a Gun, Penhaligon’s, others in that range. I hope that helps! January 26, 2022 at 10:12pm Reply

      • Debi Sen Gupta: Thanks – I already have L’Artisan Parfumeur, and Juliette Has a Gun discovery sets. The former just disappears on me though I like the scent. Juliette has a gun – I really liked Sunny Side up. January 26, 2022 at 10:44pm Reply

      • Debi: Also meant to say that I will check the other brands mentioned by you. January 26, 2022 at 10:46pm Reply

  • Suzanne: Today I am wearing Black Baccara Alice’s Tea Party, and I just love how understated it is. I got it as a sample from Surrender to Chance as part of their Apple sampler. I am new to perfume, and I still really love sweets. I just can’t help it! If anyone has a suggestion in this arena but perhaps a step towards something new, I would really appreciate it. A recent discovery is that I like a little bit of incense infused in the sweet. January 26, 2022 at 9:37am Reply

    • Aurora: Hello Suzanne: You might like Weil Suki Essence, it is a sweet incense, gourmand with plum and dates and soft spices. January 29, 2022 at 10:17am Reply

      • Suzanne: I love this suggestion. Thank you, Aurora! I will go searching for it now! January 29, 2022 at 10:42am Reply

  • Matty: Sketch by Les Parfums de Violet was a delightful surprise. A chypre/patchouli accord w/tad bit of spicy nutmeg. At it’s heart tuberose & a carnal rose responds to vanilla from Madagascar. Discovering this was well worth the price of their Heritage Sample kit. January 26, 2022 at 9:45am Reply

    • Suzanne: I’m not sure if this was intended as a response to my post, but I’ve ordered the Violet sampler — thanks! January 27, 2022 at 10:13am Reply

  • William: Everlasting by The Zoo. It is full of labdanum and Narcissis absolute and smells like something from the past as well as the future. I am a huge fan of Master Perfumer Christophe Laudamiel, and his brand deserves much more attention than it receives. Everlasting is a captivating fragrance for a cold evening. January 26, 2022 at 9:53am Reply

  • Colleen: Please suggest a perfume for me. I prefer it to be long lasting. Fragrances I know I like from my garden:
Orange blossoms, jasmine, honeysuckle, love gardenia and finally L’Occitane almond products
    Ones I have tried:
I dislike: Joe Malone’s White Jasmines & mint, Jasmine Sambac
Like: Guerlaine Aqua Allegra Mandarine Basilica (it doesn’t last long)
Demeter Jasmine (doesn’t last long enough)
Like: Diptyque Jasmine room spray and candle
    Loved: My mother’s Red Door
    Merci! January 26, 2022 at 9:54am Reply

    • Alityke: Have you tried Serge Lutens A La Nuit? It’s a photorealistic jasmine & if you shop around discounters you can still find it in the old 59ml export bottles.
Another Lutens to try would be his Fleurs D’Oranger but definitely try before you buy, it has cumin in it.
Another orange blossom forward scents to try are the Elie Saab Le Parfum. Easily accessible so try them all & find your favourite.
Happy hunting January 26, 2022 at 10:44am Reply

      • Colleen: Ha! I am wearing a sample of Fleurs D’Oranger today! So far I like it! I can’t find a sample of Ellie Saab. I do have a sample of Serge Lutens A La Nuit I need to try again. Thank you! January 26, 2022 at 11:48am Reply

      • Cornelia Blimber: Second A La Nuit!
I enjoy the jasmin in JÁdore Absolu (not to confound with the discontinued l’Absolu)
and the tuberose and jasmin in “JÁdore Infinissime. Adore is softer, but Infinissime is very long lasting.
I love the jasmin in First, but I heard some rumours about reformulation.
Unfortunately. Joy by Patou is discontinued.
Liu (Guerlain) is a lovely jasmin.
Victoria has made a film on jasmin perfumes.
maybe you can find the link, I am not handy on my computer. January 26, 2022 at 12:00pm Reply

        • Cornelia Blimber: Libre by Yves Saint Laurent has lavender and orange blossom, to my nos it is a pretty orange blossom, not much lavender. January 26, 2022 at 12:04pm Reply

      • KatieAnn: Have you given Hermès 24 Faubourg a try? It’s beautiful. January 26, 2022 at 3:30pm Reply

        • Cornelia Blimber: Second 24 Faubourg! January 26, 2022 at 4:08pm Reply

      • carole: And I’ll add to your excellent list-Louve, by Lutens, for its gorgeous cold almond facet 🙂 January 29, 2022 at 7:57pm Reply

    • Cassieflower: I’d give Sylvaine Delacourte’s orange blossom discovery set a go, also there are a few in the musk set that are really good. January 26, 2022 at 12:37pm Reply

    • Old Herbaceous: I like scents that remind me of my garden! I tend to get on well with fragrances from Penhaligons, I think they do florals well. Have you tried any of Hermès Jardin line of scents? I love those, they’re meant to evoke different gardens. You can get most of them in a set of minis, so you can try them. January 26, 2022 at 10:27pm Reply

    • Christina Goebel: If you like white florals, Colleen, I think you will enjoy Gucci Bloom Profumo di Fiori. However, I must admit that Sand & Sable by Coty can give it a run for its money at 1/10th of the cost. January 26, 2022 at 10:39pm Reply

    • rickyrebarco: A couple of other very nice florals to try, Eau d’Italie Fior Fiore is a lovely jasmine scent. For a more complete and realistic jasmine with some indoles try D.S. & Durga’s Jazmin Yucatan.
I like Van Cleef & Arpels Extraordinaire Collection California Reverie in the orange blossom/neroli category. It’s delightful! January 28, 2022 at 12:47am Reply

    • Aurora: Hi Colleen: Also, for orange blossom, the house Au Pays de la fleur d’oranger has Neroli Blanc intense and I like Diptyque l’Eau de Neroli. For Gardenia you might try Jo Loves Gardenia, Annick Goutal Un Matin d’orage, there is an EDT and an EDP, they are different, the EDT is possibly discontinued though, I prefer it, it is gardenia and jasmine, the EDP is gardenia and tuberose as is also Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose-Gardenia. • Aurora: Also, just remembered l’Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons for delightful white flowers including jasmine and orange bossom. January 29, 2022 at 11:22am Reply

  • perstare: I’m in search for a saffron/rose/oud fragrance where the oud is not animalic or offensive and where the rose leans masculine. I prefer it to be sweet, but not overly so. I’m considering Bond no.9 “Dubai Ruby.” I’ve tried Mizensir’s and MFK’s offerings and they did not win me over. Any suggestions? Thank you. January 26, 2022 at 10:10am Reply

    • OnWingsofSaffron: Perhaps Heeley‘s Agarwoud? January 26, 2022 at 10:25am Reply

      • OnWingsofSaffron: Or perhaps Calligraphy Saffron by Aramid (though I wan‘t a fan).
You cd also try Dior Oud Ispahan, yet not sure about the Saffron aspect there. Oud in spades though! January 26, 2022 at 10:34am Reply

        • perstare: I tried Dior’s Oud Isphahan and found it animalic. January 26, 2022 at 10:49am Reply

          • OnWingsofSaffron: True! And a supersonic sillage too! January 26, 2022 at 12:48pm Reply

            • perstare: I’m a social animal. But I don’t have to smell like Dusita’s “Oud Infini” (which can serve as rocket fuel should NASA ever run out). January 26, 2022 at 1:08pm Reply

              • Megan: Truth. Unfortunately, Oud Infini was the first perfume with oud I smelled, and now I am a bit biased against it. January 27, 2022 at 8:24am Reply

      • Jeanne: Have you considered Rose d’Arabie from Armani’s Prive line! It’s the only Armani I own. It’s quite beautiful. Simply Rose, saffron and patchouli. Gorgeous in winter, and one spray is all that is needed. Great staying power! January 26, 2022 at 8:28pm Reply

    • Nina: (Portrait of a Lady )or oud Isphahan by Dior . Automic Rose by initio. January 26, 2022 at 8:52pm Reply

    • Old Herbaceous: You might like David Yurman Limited Edition parfum. Still available online, and it has all those notes. The oud is there but not overwhelmingly so. I think it’s pretty unisex. If Zara is Calligraphy Saffron doesn’t appeal to you, maybe Zara is Calligraphy Rose would, though I don’t think it has an oud accord. January 26, 2022 at 10:32pm Reply

    • JulienFromDijon: Hi! Rose & saffron & something like oud?
Try to find a bottle of “a scent” from Theo Fennell, wether EDT or EDP. It flopped, it’s cheap, but it’s a very good saffron rose, on an animalic base that reminds me of deer musk. It smells retro, and strong, and purple-ish to me. It’s the best bang for one’s bucks.

Genuine oud are not necessary the best ones. And they smell different depending from origin and millage. Some smells like leather suede, like in “Rosam” from Histoires de parfums. (It reminds me of the rare “Homage” attar from Amouage. Amouage has released a new range of “attars”).

There are a ton of über-expensive rose & saffron & oud combo. Frederic Malle has one or two. Apart from some brands, to my mind, most of them smell like tourist traps. (They are traps, because they are very cynical with their price, compared to the real content and lack of artistic input). I wouldn’t recommend you a perfume that I did not try firsthand, and like. I very liked the more common combo “cardamom & good roses & oud” in Goutal’s “Rose oud absolu”, and the latest “Périlleusement vôtre” from Lutens.

Most of the time the saffron is just safraneline, but there might be a true saffron tincture or other natural extract of some sort, available to creators. “Safran Troublant” from L’artisan parfumeur seemed more natural, but written in fine print : safran, red rose, cinnamon, sandalwood, hints of vanilla. It was on sales before disappearing, it was a good occasion to spray it with abandon.

The new “Oud & pink” from the Cartier exclusive line is worth trying. No saffron in sight, but the oud is of very good quality, as well as the roses. It’s a hidden chypre structure, a very good mossy chypre one with a good dollop of rose oil. ((Second-hand vintage “aromatics elixir parfum” can be more easily available, depending of where you live))

To sum it up : have fun trying! And trust your instinct 🙂 February 7, 2022 at 6:22pm Reply

  • Katarina Sawtelle: Last year at this time (deep winter post Christmas) someone suggested Serge Lutens’ Bois de Violettes—-perfect! Good for me until it is time to pull out the early spring mimosa fragrances January 26, 2022 at 10:16am Reply

  • Lauren: Hello Victoria!! I’m such a fan of the Bois De Jasmin perfume site.

I’m looking for two perfumes: one for the spring and one for the winter.

For the spring, I’m looking for an airy perfume that isn’t heavy and that isn’t too deep. I love fruity notes as well as light floral notes. I’m not a huge fan of green notes. I would like my perfume to be uplifting. For the winter, I’m looking for a warm, comforting scent. I love milky scents that are slightly sweet. I love the notes of coconut and sandalwood. I have tried Santal Complet and it was too dense for me. I would like my perfume to be like a cashmere sweater. However, I prefer for my scents to be lighter and not too dense.

    Some scents i enjoy:
Nectarine Blossom and Honey (Jo Malone)
    Siwa (Memo)
Eau Rose and Do Son (Diptyque)
Amber Musk (Aerin) January 26, 2022 at 10:25am Reply

    • Lauren: Also, I forgot to say: I would like my perfume to be long lasting and have a small scent trail. January 26, 2022 at 10:28am Reply

    • Old Herbaceous: For spring, you might like something from Parfums de Rosine. I really love their Clair Matin as a light Rose fragrance. January 26, 2022 at 10:34pm Reply

    • rickyrebarco: Since you like diptyque fragrances, I would suggest diptyque Philosykos, unless you find it too green. It has the milkiness of some coconut scents so you might like that aspect of it. January 28, 2022 at 12:49am Reply

    • therabbitsflower: Give Eris Perfumes Mx a try for your winter scent. It’s a cashmere sweater perfume with ginger and sandalwood among many other notes. It reads a bit coconutty to me, or just plain old nutty even. February 6, 2022 at 3:27pm Reply

  • Julie Ellis: Good Morning! I am looking for a fruity and uplifting fragrance for the rest of this winter. Any suggestions?? It’s cold here. January 26, 2022 at 10:58am Reply

    • perstare: I love “Delina” by Parfum de Marly with its crisp light lichee note dancing with the rose. Excellent longevity and sillage.
Also Xerjoff’s “Erba Pura” is quite a lovely fruity scent. But like any well intentioned suggestion, get a sample first. January 26, 2022 at 1:33pm Reply

  • Sarah: First time poster, long-time reader. I would love suggestions for a new work fragrance. I am a healthcare worker, so it cannot be too sensual or ‘intense’. I would like a confident, elegant scent.
I am a chypre fan and also enjoy spicy and amber scents. I have less joy for florals except for iris which I love.
Love: ormonde jayne woman, Le Lion, glossier You for that delicious iris skin scent, most guerlain AA, coco noir and coco Mlle, JM sea salt

      • Karina: Second both of those excellent suggetions! Although for No 19 I would add that I think the edp is softer and closer to the skin, while edt is more crisp. Depending what you would like to go for. January 28, 2022 at 7:43am Reply

  • Johaboha: Hello everybody, I would love to hear your thoughts and tips on layering fragrances. Inspired by the marketing of Narciso Rodriguez ‘pure musc’, to be layered with their existing range, I tried to layer the perfumes I own of the brand (for her edp, absolu and musc noir). I somehow got the – a bit disappointing – impression that they just cancel each other out or become a bit nondescript. Any advise on that? And do you just spray two fragrances on top of each other or what method works best? January 26, 2022 at 11:37am Reply

    • Valentyna: I never spray fragrances on top of each other, it causes the top one cancelling the bottom one if that makes sense. If you want layering, just do them at different places: perfume A goes behind your ears, perfume B on your collar bone or wrists. Or A on the collar bone, B at the back of your neck. January 26, 2022 at 12:39pm Reply

      • Johaboha: It’s interesting that this ‘cancelling’ happens, I don’t quite understand why though. Thanks for the advise! January 28, 2022 at 2:53pm Reply

    • Emily: Seconding Valentyna, the idea is rather than piling them on top of each other to place them on different parts of the body, think nape of neck, elbow, wrist. Then as you move the scents hit the nose in a one-two punch, one after the other. Like fragrance pattern clashing. You’ll want to think about it but also just experiment, see what works. Play.

With anything vanilla or amber a spritz of Baccarat 540 or Cloud on the back of the neck is always fun just for extra decadence.

It’s a layering cliché but for reasons: Jo Malone Lime Basil Mandarin. I particularly love it with Andrea Maack’s Coven. Like a brisk Scottish walk.

The classic Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose is fun to try with everything & cheap enough you really can. Don’t love it alone but with an amber or citrus? So charming.

My personal favorite layering experiment so far was Papillon’s Anubis in the morning everywhere & then early afternoon before I left for a meeting Dusita’s Melodie d’Amour on my wrists. Holy moly. I was weaponized. That one’s special occasion only, too powerful.

Have fun:] January 27, 2022 at 10:07pm Reply

      • rickyrebarco: “Weaponized,” I love it!! January 28, 2022 at 12:51am Reply

      • Johaboha: Thanks for sharing your combos! I also like it if I catch a whiff of baccarat rouge that clang to my clothes from a previous wear mixed with my scent of the day. January 28, 2022 at 2:56pm Reply

    • Karina: Scented body oil + fragrance is my preferred method! Bonus benefit: it’s moisturising.

But I do layer directly sometime and that works for me. Armani Bois dEncens is one I use more often whenever I want to boost the incense levels of another fragrance (e.g. Chanel 22) January 28, 2022 at 7:47am Reply

      • johaboha: Mixing consistencies makes sense, thank you for suggestion an incense layering fragrance. January 28, 2022 at 3:00pm Reply

    • AnnieA: I call Different Company’s Oriental Lounge a gauzy oriental and it’s the only one I wear in the summer. January 29, 2022 at 8:45am Reply

    • Aurora: Hello Beth: Also, enveloping light ambers like Hermes Eau des Merveilles work year round, or the similar but slightly richer orangey amber Van Cleef & Arpels Ambre Imperial. January 29, 2022 at 12:28pm Reply

  • Hilde: Just at this moment I al wearing Aqua Colonial Saffron&Iris from 4711 on the one arm and Guerlain Après L’Ondee on the other to compacte and to try to recognize the erg Iris in both fragrances.

Apart from this I would like to know if anyone has suggestions for the 4711 brand. In the past years they have ‘rebranded’ there scale of colognes and I am eager to know if there is something interesting in it, just as a nice complementary cologne. January 26, 2022 at 1:05pm Reply

    • Aurora: Hello Hilde: I quite like Myrrh & Kumquat, I tried a few others, longevity was lacking but they are colognes so that’s to be expected I suppose, M&K performs a bit better in that respect, I find. Did you like Saffron & Iris? January 29, 2022 at 12:42pm Reply

      • Hilde: Thank you for your suggestion, Aurora.
Saffron&Iris is very soft. It is nice, but none of both notes are hardly remakable.

I am eager to know how Wakening Woods of Scaninavia and Floral Fiels of Ireland smell. Ik think I will give it a try and do a blind buy. February 2, 2022 at 3:07am Reply

  • Heather H: Hello,

Can you kindly recommend a cashmere wrap fragrance worn year round, floral, not too heavy.
With appreciation! January 26, 2022 at 1:29pm Reply

    • Anu: Hi Heather, Ferre by Gianfranco Ferre is a beautiful iris that I enjoy all year round. I find that it has that cashmere wrap quality that you are looking for. If you can’t find that one, then another option albeit a more expensive one is Iris Poudre by Frederic Malle. The nose for both perfumes is Pierre Bourdon. January 27, 2022 at 10:05am Reply

      • Heather H: Thank you Anu! Lovely suggestions. I can’t wait to try. January 27, 2022 at 2:10pm Reply

  • Greta: I have recently enjoyed two fragrances with Broom absolute (Masque Milano Lost Alice and Jorum Studio Pentimento). I can’t say for sure if it’s the Broom, but they share a quality that I enjoy. Does anyone have any recommendations for other perfumes with Broom absolute? January 26, 2022 at 4:37pm Reply

    • Kat Hi Five: I fell in love with broom when I sampled Santa Maria Novella Ginestra (Broom). I don’t know if the broom is an absolute but it is a beautiful fragrance. Thanks for your recommendations. I will be searching for both. January 26, 2022 at 9:01pm Reply

    • la_ninon: *listening*

I’m curious about this note. January 26, 2022 at 9:08pm Reply

    • Karina: I recently tried Lost Alice and found it had this sth. that I really couldn’t get on with. The same thing is in YSL Cinema. So, maybe it’s broom? January 28, 2022 at 7:51am Reply

    • OnWingsofSaffron: I’m not sure about broom absolute, yet a lovely perfume with a prominent broom accord is Amouage Opus III. January 28, 2022 at 11:46am Reply

  • shelley bershof: I had an old tiny sample of Amber by Jalaine and now can’t find it, only 2 fragrances by Jalaine – Silk and Patchouli. I already have a bunch of Amber fragrances: Ambre Nera, Ambre Sultan, Amber by Fath, etc., but wonder if anyone has ideas for a fragrance that duplicates it. It’s very long-lasting! Thanks so much in advance! January 26, 2022 at 7:31pm Reply

    • Leslie: Ambra Aurea by Profumum Roma is a spectacular amber that lasts all day … and sometimes I can smell it on my sleeve on day 2. January 28, 2022 at 10:13am Reply

      • shelley bershof: Thank you, Leslie. I’m familiar with that name,
and I believe that I had 1 or 2 samples of it a little while ago. And I do remember liking it a lot! So thanks for the reminder and I’ll look it up and try to find it. January 28, 2022 at 10:37am Reply

  • la_ninon: I’m looking for late winter/very early spring recs. Existing favorites for this time of year include Splendiris, Zagorsk, Nasomatto Absinth, Night Flower, No. 22, Cuir de Russie edt, vintage Miss Dior…interested in both “airy and interesting” and darker offerings. I don’t like fruity, spicy, rose-dominant or “clean” fragrances. Tysm! January 26, 2022 at 9:22pm Reply

    • la_ninon: Oops, also no sugary sweet fragrances, including vanilla. Thank you! January 27, 2022 at 12:41am Reply

    • Emily: A bit on the nose but Frederic Malle’s L’Eau d’Hiver, by the king of airily interesting, Jean-Claude Ellena, is elegant & clever & delicate & somehow really does capture in scent the fluffy ephemeral quiet of a snow-covered landscape on the verge of melting.

You’d need to be okay with heliotrope. I love it, in the garden & in the air, but not everyone does. January 28, 2022 at 1:50pm Reply

      • la_ninon: Ah yes, I like this–and heliotrope in general. Thanks for the reminder! January 28, 2022 at 3:38pm Reply

    • Karina: In the category of airy and interesting I would put two Giacobetti fragrances: Hiris and Passage d‘Enfer. Both work beautifully during the colder months. I‘ve also been enjoying Fougere Emeraude lot lately which is a bit of a random recommendation as It doesn’t really fall into to any of the categories you‘ve asked for… January 28, 2022 at 2:22pm Reply

      • la_ninon: Hiris and PdF have been too light for me in the past, but I may need to retest. I will check out Fougere Emeraude–lavender can be tough for me…it depends on how prominent it is. I have wondered about this house–do you know Iris Perle or Cuir de Chine? January 28, 2022 at 3:44pm Reply

        • Karina: Yes – both are very well crafted. The entire line is worth checking out. If Hiris is too light for your taste, but you like iris, then Iris Perle might be a good fit as it has more „body“ to it. I don’t find the iris to be very prominent in the scent, but I enjoyed testing it.

Cuir de Chine is a personal favourite – not just from the line but in general. It’s leathery osmanthus, the leather is soft and the osmanthus present but not overpowering. I don’t even particularly enjoy osmanthus otherwise. An interesting scent with a nice sillage trail. Highly recommend!

The leather in fougere emeraude is not too prominent. You could try their amber scent. To my nose it does the same „trick“ to amber, as fougere emeraude does to the tuberose. Minus lavender 🙂 January 28, 2022 at 3:57pm Reply

Could you please recommend a perfume similar to Etro Messe de Minuit, which was unfortunately discontinued?
    Thanks! January 27, 2022 at 2:53am Reply

    • Karina: Heeley Cardinal, perhaps. January 28, 2022 at 2:26pm Reply

      • Catarina: Oh, yes, that would be a classic indeed, unfortunately hard to get in my country. According to the reviews, it has higher quality ingredients than Avignon, it’t definetly on my wish list. Thank you for the suggestion! January 30, 2022 at 9:36am Reply

    • Aurora: Hello Catarina: Oh, I didn’t know MdM was discontinued, here are two other incense perfumes: Comme des Garçons Avignon, a classic, and Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant. January 29, 2022 at 11:04am Reply

  • Gisele: Hi, could someone recommend me an oil, perfume powder, huile, sexy, eternal, spicy, clean, very feminine, reminiscent of opal? January 29, 2022 at 11:02am Reply

    • Aurora: Hi Gisele: I am not sure it is all these things but Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse is very good and has a long-lasting scent. January 29, 2022 at 11:08am Reply

  • Catarina: Thank you so much for the suggestions, I didn’t know about Encens Flamboyant, will give it a try January 30, 2022 at 9:34am Reply

  • Marianne: Hello, I’ve enjoyed reading every post! Here’s a summary of my scented candle journey over the New Year, thanks to lovely gifts received for Christmas …
Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom. Victoria, you prepared me for the volatility of cardamom and as I expected I couldn’t discern its presence. The candle was heavily scented and rather brightly sweet at first. Then about a third of the way through it developed into a rich, pure floral. Delightful to the end.
Cire Trudon Nazareth. Yes I was spoiled. Such a soft, complex experience. Gourmand of the highest quality I’ve experienced (matched only by a Guerlain Christmas candle some years ago and happily heavily discounted at the time).
A gentle citrus note keeps it light.
The scent of both candles permeates my home even when unlit, greeting me whenever I open the front door. January 30, 2022 at 9:06pm Reply

  • Nancy Chan: Hello, I would like to know if Chanel’s Cristalle edt is still available? February 2, 2022 at 7:09am Reply
