Frédéric Malle lotions I have tried thus far were very impressive. They offer the same wonderful scent as the eponymous fragrances, in addition to wonderful emollient properties. Angéliques Sous la Pluie composed by Jean-Claude Ellena is a sparkling combination of effervescence and bitterness. It would be interesting to see whether the cream would extend the tenacity of this fairly light fragrance.

Moreover, a new home fragrance based on Vétiver Extraordinaire will become a part of the line sometime this year. The line is available at Taizo in Cannes, Dries van Noten in Antwerp, Natan/Treize in Brussels, Barneys New York, Isetan in Tokyo, Flinders Way Boudoir in Melbourne as well as directly from Editions de Parfums.

No doubt, the lovers of Jean-Claude Ellena’s Hermessence series will be delighted to hear that the rumours of the new scent being added to the collection are true. Hermès is expecting to have a new fragrance this October. Although the representative could not confirm the exact composition, some sources such as parfum-echecs refer to it as a soft floral leather.

Moreover, Hermès confirmed that the house is releasing Parfum des Merveilles this fall (September in France). The fragrance will be an extrait de parfum version of Eau des Merveilles and will be available in a refillable 1/4oz bottle, like other Hermès extrait de parfum. It is playing up the bitter orange and ambergris accord of Eau des Merveilles with rich notes of cognac and candied fruit.

Jo Malone’s new fragrance about to debut in fall of 2005 is going to feature notes of tart pomegranate and heady patchouli, according to W magazine. I love the scent of pomegranate, from powdery green aroma of its peel to tangy sweet fragrance of the ruby red pulp, therefore I am very curious to see what Jo Malone take will be like. Pomegranate Noir is going to debut in October.

Apparently, one of the accords in Carnal Flower, a new tuberose fragrance from Frédéric Malle Editions de Parfums will be Juicy Fruit gum. As Frédéric Malle said to W magazine, “One of my children was chewing a piece of gum the other day that gave me an idea for a fruity note that added sex appeal to the whole thing.” This comment is very interesting, particularly because I recall Jean-Claude Ellena mentioning that he smells bubblegum in jasmine. We will see how Carnal Flower will exploit this note. The fragrance will premier in September in France and will feature notes of tuberose, orange blossom, coconut milk and camphor.
