New Bois de Jasmin Online Courses : From Spice to Iris

Update: Thank you for your interest; the classes are now sold out. If you would like to be notified of new classes, please subscribe to the mailing list.

I’ve discovered my passion for teaching early in my career. As a political science and perfumery student, I’ve taught introductory courses in my fields, and in the past 15 years, I’ve designed seminars for the institutions around the world. Most recently, I’ve been teaching at ISIPCA, the leading French perfumery school. It’s rewarding to share what I’ve learned working and studying with talented perfumers like Sophia Grojsman, Maurice Roucel, Dominique Ropion and Calice Becker. I feel that the more we learn about our sense of smell and the world of aromas, the more we can appreciate perfumery–and the more enjoyment we find in every moment. So, I’m delighted to open a new series of 6 classes to you.

The class size is small to ensure that everyone gets attention and a chance to interact. The class is run as a lecture interspersed with guided smelling exercises. My style of teaching is personal and interactive. You will have a chance to ask question throughout the class and there will also be an allotted time at the end for your questions on any fragrance-related topics.

These classes are for students of all levels of interest in perfumery.

We will use readily available materials like spices and citrus fruit for these classes (no need to buy essential oil kits, but if you already have essential oils, you can use them too.)

If you are a student on a limited budget and eager to learn perfumery: Bois de Jasmin classes have a reserved “student seat” available to the eligible individuals. To join as a student trainee, please contact me and explain your academic affiliation and interest in perfumery.

Teaching at ISIPCA and My Online Perfumery Courses

I’m delighted to share that I have joined ISIPCA and I will teach Perfume History starting this fall. ISIPCA (Institut supérieur international du parfum, de la cosmétique et de l’aromatique alimentaire) was founded by Jean- Jacques Guerlain in 1970, and it’s the leading academy in France conferring degrees in perfume, cosmetics and flavors. It’s thrilling to become part of its faculty. I have always enjoyed teaching and I look forward to exploring the subject of iconic perfumes and history with my students.

In the meantime, I will resume my online perfumery classes starting this winter. As always, I will release the new dates via my newsletter, so if you haven’t done so already, please subscribe to stay informed. If you have any wishes about particular topics, I would be glad to hear from you.

Learn Perfumery in Bulgaria

This summer I will will be in Bulgaria exploring its lavender plantations from June 26th to June 30th, 2023. I’m partnering with Silvia Yonkova of Roseoverdose, to teach a perfume workshop during the Lavender Retreat of 2023. Silvia’s family has been in the flower growing business for generations and she has first-hand knowledge and expertise on many aromatic plants, including lavender. I have already collaborated with her during her Rose Retreat, and I am thrilled to join her again for the lavender adventure. Silvia is a wonderful host and all of her events are much acclaimed. And till May 31st, Bois de Jasmin readers can benefit from a 15% off the retreat price by using the code BOISDEJASMIN.
We will participate in the lavender harvest and learn how this aromatic plant is made into essential oil. We will also have perfume workshops designed to help you blend your own accords. The retreat will take place on the Bulgarian coast and it will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some time at the beach as well as in the flower gardens. I hope that you will join me.

For more information and booking, please visit Rose Overdose.

Ukrainian Scent and Taste Adventure : June 2-9, 2020

CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19

Our Ukrainian Scent and Taste Adventure tour is scheduled for June 2-9, 2020. I’m partnering with Nataliya Cummings of the Experience Ukraine, a boutique UK based tour operator. We’re taking reservations right now and there are still some places open. We would like to accommodate everyone, but we want to keep the group small. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. This tour will be a chance to learn about perfumery, discover the beautiful region of Transcarpathia, explore artisanal crafts, scents and food. The tour will include 8 days with a variety of workshops. We will travel from the capital city of Kyiv all the way west to the historical city of Lviv, and along our journey we will cook, eat, smell, have fun and discover Ukraine’s many treasures, from UNESCO heritage sites to smoked pears!

Safety: Ukraine is absolutely safe for travel. The tour will take place in the western part of Ukraine, 20km from the Romanian border. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Flights: we recommend flying in and out of Kyiv, unless you would like combine this trip with a visit to Poland, Czech Republic or Austria (Lviv offers easy connections to those countries). At the end of the tour, many of us will be taking a high speed train from Lviv to Kyiv, so you can travel with our group. Ukraine International Airlines offer many direct flights from the major US and European cities.

To book the tour: fill out the form on the the Experience Ukraine website. You can also see the full program on the Experience Ukraine website, while the detailed perfumery workshop descriptions are available  here.
