Puredistance Opardu : New Perfume for Fall

An Austrian niche line Puredistance will release its new fragrance Opardu in November of 2012. Created by perfumer Annie Buzantian, it reportedly contains 32% of perfume oil and features violet, heliotrope, lilac, musk, and woods. “Opardu is inspired by the romance and opulence of the 1920s and by the expressive paintings of Kees van Dongen. The word and concept of Opardu is an invention of  the owner of Puredistance, Jan Ewoud Vos.” As the press release further describes it, “The word Opardu expresses the deep longing for the bygone days of Opulence and true Romance. Opardu has an instant hypnotizing effect that brings back long forgotten memories of love and romance. Be prepared for a perfume that will bring you back to the vibrant nightlife of Paris in the 1920’s. ”

Available as 17.5 ml (165 euros), 60 ml (275 euros), and 100ml (490 euros, with a special leather case).  Via press release

  • Diane: I am longing to try this one and feel sure it will be for me! I am such a fan of the puredistance line – what quality and creativity. And anything that promises to evoke the glamorous 20s…. August 30, 2012 at 7:46am Reply

    • Victoria: I also liked the fragrances I’ve tried from them, maybe not enough to spend that kind of money, but they were definitely very good. And yes, the promise of the glamorous 20s is tempting. August 30, 2012 at 10:26am Reply

  • Barbara: I’m not a native English speaker, but something about this press release reads strange. Let’s hope that the perfume is better. August 30, 2012 at 7:59am Reply

    • Victoria: A bit repetitive, perhaps. August 30, 2012 at 10:28am Reply

  • Austenfan: I once won two samples of this line; Antonia and M. I have yet to succumb to Antonia’s charms but really like M. Not enough to want to spend that amount of money for it though.

(Isn’t this a Dutch line rather than an Austrian line? The owner is Dutch and their main office seems to be in Holland.) August 30, 2012 at 3:18pm Reply

    • Victoria: One of them reminded me very much of Pleasures, but a dark, more brooding version.

I’m not sure, but in the press releases they are highlighting their Austrian roots. “Only Vienna seamlessly fits the philosophy of the Puredistance concept.” August 30, 2012 at 4:00pm Reply

      • Austenfan: Well it doesn’t really matter, maybe the owner was indeed inspired by Austria and now lives there or something like that. It’s all EU and even EMU ( for as long as the euro will hold)

Was that Antonia? I never tried I, and Antonia seemed quite a clean floral from what I remember. It would fit, as I do not really like Pleasures either. August 30, 2012 at 5:08pm Reply

        • Victoria: It might have been Antonia, but I don’t remember. I had three identical vials of their perfumes, and I kept mixing them up. I will revisit them. August 31, 2012 at 4:11am Reply
